Sydney, Australia Wombat Cuddling Day Tour Recommendation: Zig Zag Tour

When traveling in Australia, visiting a wildlife park is a must. I recently went on the Wombat Tour, a day tour where you actually get to cuddle a wombat! Zig Zag Tour is currently the only operator offering a Korean-speaking guide for this. Since it's a brand-new tour, there weren't many reviews online, so I wanted to share my firsthand experience. I’ve put together all the reasons why I highly recommend this Sydney day tour, so be sure to read on!

The Town of Bowral

This was our first stop! We met up at Sydney's Darling Harbour and drove for about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get here.

It’s a super popular getaway destination for Sydney locals. Packed with adorable boutique shops and amazing places to eat, the vibe is completely different from Sydney—I got excited the moment we arrived!

We were given about 1.5 hours of free time in Bowral to grab some brunch and explore the town at our own pace.

There's a famous crepe spot in Bowral. It's actually a savory crepe place, which makes it a unique and highly recommended brunch option!

If you love browsing lifestyle and antique shops, you absolutely must check out Green Lane, Dirty Janes, and Bronte Tram!

Winery - Centennial Vineyards

We spent about an hour tasting local Australian wines. They had a great selection of white, red, and sparkling wines, and our guide translated the detailed explanations of each wine into Korean. It was so interesting to learn about the unique characteristics of each grape variety and flavor profile!

There are so many wineries on the outskirts of Sydney, and it was wonderful to taste these local wines and even pick up a few bottles as souvenirs.
Taralga Wildlife Park - Cuddling a Wombat

The moment we've all been waiting for—we finally arrived at the zoo! The only zoo where you can hold a wombat on a Sydney day tour is the Taralga Wildlife Park. We grabbed some animal feed at the entrance and headed right in.

The fee for the wombat cuddle encounter is $15 AUD, payable on-site!
✅ Taralga Wildlife Park is quite difficult to reach by rental car or public transport. Zigzag Travel is actually the only agency running guided tours here from Sydney!

Wombats are actually pretty heavy! Because there's a specific way to hold them, a zookeeper will guide you and help you hold them safely.

It was so fascinating because their backsides are rock-hard, almost like they have a built-in plate! They are incredibly gentle, and the one I held kept falling asleep in my arms... Absolute dream come true! 🥺

Wombats are mostly nocturnal and can sleep up to 19 hours a day. I felt so incredibly grateful to find a place where you can actually hold one! They are just too cute for words... 😭
Taralga Wildlife Park also has adorable quokkas!

We got to feed the kangaroos, too.

We also got up close with the alpacas and fed them. I’d seen camels before in Port Stephens, but feeding one was a first for me!

📌 Wombat Cuddle Encounter - $15 AUD, paid on-site.
Goulburn - A Famous Local Aussie Meat Pie Hotspot

The final stop of our tour was visiting a legendary meat pie shop that is incredibly popular even among locals.
Goulburn is a charming regional town known for its historic wool industry and the "Big Merino"—a colossal sheep monument!

The must-try menu items at Trappers Bakery are the Chunky Steak and Feta Spinach pies. I bought two for around $15 AUD, and they were hands down the most generous, delicious meat pies I’ve ever tasted!
✅ They were so delicious that I even packed a few more to take home.

The main reason I booked this Sydney day tour was for the unique wombat cuddle encounter. Naturally, holding the wombat was absolutely satisfying, but I also loved the unexpected bonus stops—the boutique winery tour and exploring the gorgeous nearby town of Bowral were both so wonderful.
I completely fell in love with the peaceful vibe and the quaint charm of regional Australia.
