Sydney Supermarket Shopping: Woolworths, Coles & Souvenirs 2026
Discover how to save money and find authentic Australian souvenirs at Sydney's popular supermarkets, Woolworths and Coles. Learn insider tips for the best shopping experience!

Sydney, Australia, can be quite pricey,
which means during your trip, you might find yourself at a Sydney supermarket
picking up groceries to cook your own meals.
You might also hit the supermarkets to grab Sydney souvenir snacks, chocolates, and more!
Wondering where the best supermarkets are located in downtown Sydney?
Curious about what kind of beef you can find for grilling?
And of course, I'll even share my ultimate souvenir shopping list!
1. Sydney Supermarket Hotspots

I personally stayed at Meriton Suites Kent Street,
and it was super convenient with both Woolworths and Coles supermarkets just a 5-minute walk away.
I found myself popping in quite often!
📌 Woolworths Town Hall
Hours: 6 AM – Midnight
📌 Coles World Square
Hours: 6 AM – Midnight
Woolworths is right opposite Town Hall Station,
making it incredibly convenient, which is why I visited it more frequently.
If your mission is souvenir shopping,
I highly recommend hitting the stores in the morning.
During peak season, if you wait until the evening, popular items like Cadbury chocolates
and PODS snacks tend to be completely sold out!
2. Must-Have Sydney Souvenirs

Let's dive right into some of the best Sydney souvenirs worth adding to your shopping list!
Cadbury Chocolates $3.5
These are easily Australia's most famous chocolates!
Inside, you'll find individually wrapped chocolates,
and the outer packaging features such a fun variety of animals, from koalas to frogs and more.
The koala ones are milk chocolate with a caramel center,
while the frogs come in milk, white, and even strawberry chocolate varieties.

Natural Jellies $2.5
They're famous as Australia's natural jellies because they don't contain any artificial colors or flavors.
You'll find such a huge variety of flavors,
and what's amazing is you don't get that typical bloated feeling or lingering artificial taste after eating them!
I highly recommend these to any jelly lovers out there,
and since they're quite pricey in other countries, grab them when they're on a 'buy one get one free' deal!

TIMTAM $6
PODS ~$3
Funnily enough, during my visit, both Woolworths and Coles were
completely sold out of PODS, so I mostly had to pick them up from convenience stores.
While both are definitely 'devilishly calorific,' as we say,
their addictive taste meant I simply had to bring a few packs home!

OB Finest Crackers $5
I actually bought these after seeing them recommended on another blog,
and the fig flavor is absolutely the best!
They're a firm cracker, perfect with some cream cheese,
making them a fantastic accompaniment for wine.

BYRON BAY Cookies
I also heard these were pretty famous, so I picked up a few bags.
While the taste isn't groundbreaking, the packaging is lovely,
making them a great gift option when you're thinking, 'What else can I get for a Sydney souvenir?'
I definitely recommend them as a thoughtful gift.

CAMPOS Coffee Beans $21-$28
Campos coffee beans, famous as one of Sydney's top three and renowned for its specialty coffee,
are also available at supermarkets.
They sell not only whole bean coffee but also capsules,
so coffee lovers should definitely check them out!
Now, let's break down what kinds of things are great to shop for and
whip up while you're staying in Australia!
3. Grocery Shopping Picks

First off, the most popular thing to do is buy Australian beef
and grill it at accommodations with a kitchen!
A quick tip: the beef also tends to run out by evening...
For pre-packaged beef portions,
I recommend going in the morning or during the day to buy them.
There was much more beef at Coles than at Woolworths.

There are various cuts of beef available, like Porterhouse, T-bone steaks, and more,
so make sure to stock up on some quality Australian beef and grill it up to your heart's content!
Most of it is quite lean, which means it can be a bit tough,
so I recommend using plenty of butter when grilling it...

Pre-cut button mushrooms $4
A bunch of lettuce $3.5
Vegetables are often sold pre-prepped, and aren't too expensive, so it's great to buy them and grill them alongside your meat.
By the way, for perilla leaves (kkaennip), ssamjang (spicy dipping sauce), or Hetbahn (pre-cooked rice),
you'll find them best at Cosmos Mart, a Korean supermarket!
(Photo-taking isn't allowed here, so I couldn't include any pictures.)

There were also so many semi-prepared foods that just need to be baked in the oven or heated in the microwave.
Even if you don't feel like cooking, buying these and heating them up
is much cheaper and better than eating out at a restaurant.
(Eating out at a restaurant averages ~$44-74 for two people,
and honestly, they don't always live up to the price tag...)

Sushi rolls are also sold pre-made, and there were many pre-portioned salads available too.

Chobani Yogurt $1.6-$2.8
Whenever I go to the US or Australia, Chobani is my go-to treat;
the milk is so incredibly delicious there, it makes for a yogurt that's on another level
compared to Korean yogurts.
The kind you 'break' and mix, similar to Korea's Biyott, is especially tasty,
so make sure to enjoy plenty of it throughout your trip.

Bundaberg, the Australian drink, is also much cheaper than in Korea
and comes in such a wide variety of flavors, it's great to buy in bulk at the supermarket.
Bundaberg (6-pack cans) $8.1
Personally, I think the grapefruit flavor is the most delicious!
I've organized a list, divided into Australian souvenirs and
things you might want to buy and enjoy during your stay.
For your reference, souvenirs like koala dolls, traffic light keychains, and ballpoint pens
are best and cheapest at Paddy's Market!
(I also highly recommend the fruit here!)
I'll share a separate post about this below.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the operating hours for Woolworths Town Hall and Coles World Square in Sydney city center, and is there a recommended time for souvenir shopping?
Both Woolworths Town Hall and Coles World Square operate from 6 AM until midnight. If you're looking to buy souvenirs, we recommend visiting in the morning. During peak season evenings, items like Cadbury chocolates or PODS snacks might be out of stock.
What are the approximate prices for Cadbury chocolates, Natural Jelly, Tim Tam, and PODS among the souvenirs available at Sydney supermarkets?
Cadbury chocolates are about $3.5, Natural Jelly is $2.5. Tim Tam costs $6, and PODS can be purchased for around $3.
What should I keep in mind when buying Australian beef at Sydney supermarkets, and which supermarket do you recommend?
Pre-packaged beef often runs out by evening, so it's recommended to purchase it in the morning or during the day. Coles had a much wider variety of beef cuts than Woolworths. Australian beef tends to be leaner and tougher, so it's best to use plenty of butter when cooking it.
What recommended beverages can be purchased at Sydney supermarkets, and what are their price ranges?
Chobani yogurt ranges from $1.6 to $2.8, and we recommend the kind that you fold and eat, similar to Biyott. A 6-pack of Bundaberg canned drinks costs $8.1, with the grapefruit flavor being particularly good.
