Sydney Opera Bar Review 2026: Iconic Views & Insider Tips
Stumbled upon Sydney's Opera Bar and fell in love with its vibrant atmosphere and stunning views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Here's our guide to this iconic spot!
A Must-Visit Spot When Traveling to Sydney
The Opera House
While strolling to see the Opera House,
I noticed people leisurely gathered right below it.
Curiosity led me to
Opera Bar
It turned out to be a bar already famous among travelers,
but we stumbled upon it spontaneously,
and loved it so much that
we visited it one more time on our last day.
I'm sharing my review of this atmospheric Opera Bar.
Opera Bar Information
Location
Sydney Opera House, Lower Concourse Level, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
It's located right below the Opera House.
Just follow the path along the waterfront,
and you'll find it easily.

Opening Hours
Sun-Thu: 11:00 AM - 12:00 AM
Fri-Sat: 11:00 AM - 12:30 AM
Most restaurants in Sydney close early,
so it was great that this place stayed open late.

Opera Bar View
If you grab a spot on the pier-like area in front of Opera Bar,
you can enjoy both the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
Daytime View
With a refreshing blue sky,
you can enjoy the majestic Opera House and Harbour Bridge together.

Nighttime View
The dazzling lights of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge
reveal a whole new spectacle.

It's also a popular spot for travelers to take photos.
On our first visit,
we went late in the afternoon to enjoy the Opera House,
and then sat at Opera Bar as the sun began to set.
We were incredibly lucky to get a seat right on the pier.

Both times we visited,
we managed to get a table as walk-ins!
though it required a bit of strategic waiting.
It gets incredibly crowded, so
finding a seat isn't easy.
But since reservations are possible,
if you're planning a trip,
I highly recommend making a reservation.
When you go to order,
they'll first check if you've secured a table.
Grab any available seat first,
place your order,
and then you can move to a better spot if one opens up.
Co-seating is also possible at the long tables.
Menu Recommendations
Looking at other reviews, people often order
cocktails or wine,
but we opted for beer and a light meal.

Must-Try Menu
Sweet Potato Fries
Calamari
Margherita Pizza
Beer
Beer
Beer

But let me tell you, those sweet potato fries...
Even after returning home,
they're a taste I still dream about.
I seriously recommend trying them at least ten times! :)
I honestly felt like I could eat them endlessly.
Just thinking about them makes my mouth water!
How to Order
1) Order from your seat using a QR code
You can order directly from your table.
Every table has a QR code.
We tried, but honestly,
it was a bit too glitchy and confusing for us,
so we eventually went straight to the front counter to place our order.
2) Order directly at the front counter
We actually wondered if it was okay to order there directly, but we went for it,
and they were incredibly friendly and helpful!
It definitely brightened our mood even more.
Pro Tip for Ordering
If you find ordering on your phone a bit tricky,
just access the QR code menu,
choose your dishes beforehand,
and then show your selections at the front counter.
That way, you won't have to explain too much!
I actually took a screenshot like this
and brought it over to show them.
Before you head over to order,
don't forget to jot down your table number!

Price Point
In Sydney, it felt like almost everywhere
restaurant prices tended to be on the pricier side.
That's how it felt to me!
However, Opera Bar was different.
The food tasted even better than I expected,
and when you factor in the incredible view paired with a refreshing beer,
the cost felt totally worth it.
Laser Show Fun at Opera Bar
On my second visit,
there was a fantastic laser show happening near the Harbour Bridge!
Sitting right at the bar, savoring delicious food,
we got to enjoy the laser show as well!

It seems like this is a fairly regular event,
so it might be a great idea to check the schedule beforehand and plan your visit accordingly!
Opera Bar on a Rainy Day
We had initially grabbed a spot closer to the pier and were enjoying the vibe, but then...
it suddenly started to rain!
We quickly moved to a spot further inside the bar.
Even though it only had a roof and wasn't fully enclosed,
the inside seats still offered plenty of view to enjoy.
Even with the rain, no one seemed annoyed; instead,
everyone just embraced and enjoyed the moment.
So, even on a rainy day,
you can absolutely still have a fantastic time,
so don't worry at all.
Just go and experience it!
In fact, it was quite atmospheric and even...
better!
A Little Heads-Up
Since the area around the Opera House is
a waterfront location,
there are seriously so many seagulls!
And at Opera Bar specifically,
maybe it's because of all the delicious food,
but the seagulls really flock there!
I'd never seen seagulls this close up before!
Honestly, they looked a bit scarier than I imagined.

If you're someone who's a bit scared of birds,
you might find it a little challenging.
Because of the food-snatching seagulls,
they even provide food covers (like little nets!).
My friends and I definitely got spooked a few times,
but the atmosphere of the bar was so incredible
that eventually, even the seagulls
It just felt like a part of it all.

Final Thoughts
The Opera Bar wasn't just a great restaurant;
it was a space where you could truly feel Sydney's essence.
Gazing at the Opera House and Harbour Bridge,
a glass of beer, enjoyed with some music,
made the fatigue from a day of exploring
simply melt away.
Rather than forcing a change to your itinerary,
when you're stopping by the Opera House,
I highly recommend stopping by if you have the time! :)
