When you're on a long overseas adventure, local food is initially
incredibly tasty, but after a few days, it's totally normal to crave something different.
Especially if you're like me and love warm, comforting broths!
So today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to a Sydney spot where you can enjoy hearty broth and delicious noodles –
'Happy Chef Noodle'!

Happy Chef Noodle is tucked away inside a
food court on the 2nd floor of a shopping mall in Sydney's Chinatown.
Its proximity to Paddy's Market makes it a perfect spot for a quick lunch
after some souvenir hunting!
They specialize in Chinese and Southeast Asian-style noodle dishes,
and our tour guide gave it a glowing recommendation, so we had to check it out!
Even if you search for the name on a map,
you might still get a little lost since it's on the second floor.
Just look for the building with the 'SUSSEX' sign and red Chinese characters,
head inside,
and take the escalator up to the second floor! Easy peasy!
Since it's a food court, you'll find almost ten different eateries.
From Chinese and Southeast Asian cuisine to dumplings and even cafes,
there's a fantastic variety of options to suit any craving!
And now, for the main event – Happy Chef Noodle's menu!
They boast an impressive selection of almost 40 noodle dishes,
with names clearly listed in both English and Chinese.
Here's a fun fact: only menu number 15
has the Korean name, 'Seafood Dumpling Noodle', written next to it!
This clearly shows how popular it is with the Korean community here!
The prices generally range from 16~22 AUD,
which might seem a tad high for noodles.
Once you've picked your dish, you get to choose your noodle type: rice noodles, rice vermicelli, or egg noodles.
After making your selection, just head to the counter to pay.
We even asked the owner for recommendations on which noodles best suited each dish!

We ordered the #15 Seafood Dumpling Noodle and the #22 Laksa.
These two delightful bowls,
arrived in about 10 minutes.
You can grab any sauces or cutlery you need from the self-service station.
True to a Chinese-run eatery,
the sheer size and generous portions were truly impressive!
While the initial price might seem a bit steep, once you see the abundant noodles
and generous toppings, it all makes perfect sense.
Just a heads-up, this particular stall doesn't sell beer, so
we grabbed some from the cafe next door to enjoy with our meal.
First, I tried the Laksa.
The owner recommended the thin egg noodles, so that's what I went with.
With a layer of red oil floating on top, it looked quite spicy at first glance.
It was packed with ingredients like fried tofu, shrimp, squid, and meat.
The variety of ingredients was quite impressive!
This was my very first time trying Laksa here,
and I was genuinely surprised by how incredibly delicious it was!
The rich broth, infused with coconut milk,
had a flavor somewhat reminiscent of Thai curry.
Contrary to my initial worries, it wasn't overly spicy,
which meant I just kept going back for more of that amazing broth!
Next up was the Seafood Dumpling Noodles,
and for this, I chose the thick rice noodles.
It featured a clear, rich broth, seemingly simmered with shrimp, squid, fish cakes, and vegetables.
While the Laksa had a slightly richer, more textured feel, this noodle soup
was a refreshing and smooth-textured soup.
The broth was genuinely delicious and often comes to mind,
though personally, I found the thick noodles a bit disappointing.
If you're ever looking for a great place to eat in Sydney,
this is definitely a restaurant I'd recommend.
The Laksa, which is hard to find a good version of back home, was incredibly appealing,
and the Seafood Dumpling Noodles felt wonderfully revitalizing, almost like a perfect hangover cure,
leaving me completely satisfied.
For anyone in Sydney craving a delicious soup dish,
you might usually head out for Malatang,
but I highly recommend you try a bowl of noodles here instead!
