We're talking about a brand-new, enormous seafood market building. Getting to the Sydney Fish Market & Hours

✅ The easiest way to get to the Sydney Fish Market is by taking the L1 light rail (tram) from Capitol Square in Sydney City. Hop on a tram heading towards Dulwich Hill and get off at Glebe Station, which is just a 3-minute walk to the market.

While there is a 'Fish Market' station, Glebe Station offers the shortest walk.

✅ According to Google, the market operates from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, extending to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. This means you can visit practically any time, from an early morning seafood breakfast to a late-night feast!

The newly opened Fish Market feels incredibly comfortable and caters to both locals and tourists, a refreshing change from the sometimes chaotic, tourist-focused vibe of the old market. Instead of a bustling, overwhelming market, the new layout thoughtfully separates restaurant and market areas, making it much more pleasant to explore.

Everywhere you look, you'll spot massive, incredibly fresh tuna and other fish caught just this morning. The escalators leading to the underground parking really give you a sense of just how vast this new seafood market truly is.

Sydney Fish Market's Best Lobster Spot - Nicholas Seafood

After a full tour of the market, I noticed that all the restaurants from the previous Fish Market location are still here! Even after the renovation, Nicholas Seafood remains the top spot for lobster.

There are about five eateries inside the market, and while they all sell similar items, each seems to have its own specialty.

At Nicholas Seafood, you can enjoy a smaller lobster with noodles for around $89.99, which is a great value.

If you're looking for something bigger, the larger lobsters weigh over 4 pounds each. The best part? You can pick a live lobster and have it cooked exactly how you like it (additional charges apply). Prices for these remain the same as before the renovation.

Compared to the old market, there are now many more outdoor tables and indoor seating options, making it a much more pleasant experience to enjoy your lobster right there. Before, the market atmosphere was so cramped that dining at a separate restaurant often felt like a better choice, even with the extra cost.

Peter's: Your Go-To for Fish & Chips and Fresh Fish

Peter's is famous for its Grill section, where almost everything is delicious! You can order items like fish & chips, fried calamari, fried shrimp, grilled salmon, and cheese lobster by quantity and enjoy them platter-style.

Peter's is particularly popular for its grilled and fried specialties, with a huge crowd gathering at the section where they cook lobster rolls and grilled scallops fresh on the spot.

I highly recommend Peter's if you want to sample a wide variety of seafood, from fried delicacies to perfectly grilled options.

They also have a fantastic section for sashimi, salmon sashimi, and sushi. You can get fresh slices by weight, making it a great spot to enjoy raw seafood.

Our Top Pick: Fish Tacos!

At the Sydney Fish Market, the fish tacos are an absolute must-try! They also sell fish donuts, but I found the tacos to be far superior. The new Fish Market is incredibly spacious, so it took a bit of searching to find them.

You'll find them exclusively at the Fish Market Cafe, located at the very back of the market from the entrance. I was pleasantly surprised that the prices remained the same as before: salmon tacos for ~$9.8 and tuna tacos for ~$11. I honestly expected them to be more expensive after the renovation!

We grabbed four tacos each and found a great spot. There was plenty of seating outdoors with a view of the Anzac Bridge. Previously, sitting right by the water meant battling seagulls, but those worries are gone now! Plus, there's a ceiling over the outdoor tables, making it perfectly fine to dine outside even on a rainy day.

The salmon taco, with its combination of salmon, avocado, rice, crispy fried seaweed taco shell, and salmon roe, is incredibly savory and perfectly balanced – not too overpowering at all. Absolutely delicious!

There's a generous amount of salmon, making it feel like a great value. Be sure to add a little soy sauce and wasabi – it cuts through any richness and creates a perfect harmony of flavors.

The tuna taco is slightly more expensive than the salmon, but honestly, I couldn't really tell the difference – both were equally amazing! Haha.
