Quick answer
- Located a 10-minute walk from Zhongshan Road's main entrance.
- A 3-night stay in a Deluxe Twin City View room cost approximately ~$276.
- A deposit of 200 Chinese Yuan (approx. ~$29) is required per night.

- Hotel WiFi is slow; a local SIM or eSIM with 3GB+ data/day is recommended for China.
After spending a night on Gulangyu Island, my remaining three nights in Xiamen were at the 5-star Swiss Grand Xiamen, conveniently located near Zhongshan Road.
I experienced quite a lot during my three-night stay at this luxurious hotel, and I'm ready to share my honest review with you.
Swiss Grand Xiamen Basic Information
📍 Swiss Grand Xiamen
12 Lu Jiang Dao, Siming District, Xiamen, Fujian Province, China 361001
📍 Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street
Siming District, Xiamen, Fujian Province, China 361001
The Swiss Grand Xiamen boasts an excellent location, just a 10-minute walk from the main entrance of Zhongshan Road, putting you right at the heart of the city's vibrant energy.
While this hotel is renowned for its breathtaking views of Gulangyu Island, I opted for a more budget-friendly City View Deluxe Twin room.
I booked through Agoda, and for a three-night stay, it came out to just under ~$276. This was based on a Monday check-in and Thursday check-out. When I checked recently in October 2026, Trip.com actually offered a slightly better rate!
Check-in & Lobby Experience

As expected from a 5-star establishment, the lobby was truly grand and impressive.
I arrived about 30 minutes before the official check-in time, and I was pleasantly surprised that they allowed me to check in right away. It's always a great start to a hotel stay!

While the front desk staff did speak some English, we mostly communicated using a translation app, which worked perfectly fine.
One thing to note during check-in is the deposit policy: they require a deposit of 200 Chinese Yuan (approximately ~$29) per night. I paid mine with a credit card, and it was promptly refunded upon check-out, so no need to worry.

To access the guest floors, you'll need to use your room key to activate the elevator and select your floor, a common security measure in many hotels.

Deluxe Twin Room (City View) Review

To be honest, the city view wasn't particularly inspiring, as it mostly looked out onto a large building. I ended up keeping the curtains closed for most of my stay.
If you're dreaming of those iconic Gulangyu Island vistas, I definitely recommend booking a room specifically designated with a Gulangyu Island view.

Despite the city view, I was very pleased with the sheer spaciousness of the room itself.

A heads-up about the minibar: Evian bottled water and packaged specialty teas come with a charge. However, regular tea bags and standard bottled water are complimentary.

The complimentary bottled water was replenished daily, which was a nice touch.

The bathroom was also incredibly spacious and even featured bath salts next to the tub! It was a perfect way to unwind with a relaxing bath and compensate for not making it to the hotel sauna during my busy trip.

For privacy, the glass partition next to the bathtub has a retractable blind, so no worries if you're traveling with friends!

Inside the room, there's also a desk and a comfortable sofa area. For me, this spot quickly became our go-to for enjoying late-night snacks after a day of exploring!
The generous size of the room truly made it feel open and comfortable – absolutely fantastic!
5th Floor Fitness Club & Swimming Pool

On the 5th floor, you'll find the fitness club, which is accessible 24 hours a day for hotel guests by simply scanning your room key.

It's well-equipped with a wide variety of machines, creating an excellent environment for a good workout.

My travel companion and I even packed our workout clothes, promising ourselves we'd hit the gym, but alas, we never made it once!

There's also a swimming pool available, and I heard the water temperature is quite warm, perfect for a relaxing dip.

Within the 5th-floor fitness club's changing rooms, you'll find both a dry sauna and a steam sauna. I really wanted to use them, but our busy sightseeing schedule made it impossible to match their operating hours.
Sauna & Steam Sauna Operating Hours: 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM
If I visit Xiamen again, a sauna session is definitely at the top of my list!
WiFi Availability in China
Let's be real about the Wi-Fi here: it wasn't particularly fast. In fact, based on all my travels in China, you shouldn't set your expectations too high for Wi-Fi in general.
Even in a 5-star hotel, the Wi-Fi can be quite slow, and accessing sites like Google or YouTube can be a real struggle.
My absolute top tip? Always use a local SIM card or eSIM for your trip. I recommend at least 3GB of data per day to stay connected.
Here's a link to the eSIM provider I always use for my China travels:
Who Should Stay Here?
I highly recommend the Swiss Grand Xiamen if you are:
- Looking for an affordable 5-star hotel experience in Xiamen.
- Wanting convenient access to explore the Zhongshan Road area.
- Planning to make full use of excellent amenities like the fitness club and swimming pool.
If you're after those stunning Gulangyu Island views, opt for a Gulangyu View room. For the best value, the standard City View rooms are a great choice.
