I have a ring that I always wear,
almost like a good luck charm.
After wearing it almost every day for five years,
it's started to show signs of wear and tear,
with little scratches appearing.
So, I decided I wanted to try making
a similar style ring myself,
and I visited a ring workshop.
Today, I'm going to share my experience making a silver clay ring
at Nov.12, a ring workshop in Haenggung-dong, Suwon,
where I even added some cubic zirconia to make it extra lovely.

Surprisingly, there weren't many ring workshops
offering silver clay ring making.
So, even though it was a bit of a distance from my home,
I decided to venture all the way to Haenggung-dong in Suwon.

Nov.12, the ring workshop in Haenggung-dong, Suwon,
is located right on the main street of Haenggung-dong,
making it easily accessible from anywhere.

Many visitors coming for a Suwon ring-making experience
or a Haenggung-dong date are likely to be from other areas,
just like me.
Keep in mind that wax carving rings cannot be picked up on the same day,
so it's good to note this when making your reservation.

However, filigree and silver clay ring making are
available for same-day pickup, so if a return visit is inconvenient,
I recommend these two classes!
Also, when you book via Naver,
you can get a ~$4 discount coupon per person,
so make sure to grab that benefit when you reserve!
2. Nov.12 Interior Atmosphere

Nov.12, the ring workshop in Haenggung-dong, Suwon,
had such a beautifully decorated interior, like a European atelier
or an accessory shop, that it captivated me from the moment I stepped inside.
Near the entrance, they also sold handmade accessories
like earrings and rings.

Even though I went to make my own ring,
the finished products on display were so lovely
that my eyes kept wandering back to them.
In fact, even as I write this,
one particular ring I liked still lingers in my mind!

Further inside, you'll find the workshop space
where the one-day classes take place.
The wide-open window made the workspace feel so refreshing,
not stuffy at all, and watching the scenery outside was truly therapeutic.
3. Silver Clay Ring Making Review

After stating my reservation name and putting on an apron,
the class started right away.
After confirming my ring size,
I started choosing the cubic zirconia stones for the ring.

Looking at the samples,
I thought vibrant colored cubic zirconia would look prettier,
so I picked three, focusing on strong colors.
But once I saw the finished ring,
all three colors were strong and from different families,
making it feel a bit too flashy.

I think it would also look beautiful to use one or two vibrant colors as accents
and match the rest with lighter shades,
or to unify the overall color scheme with similar tones.

Afterwards, I embedded the cubic zirconia into the silver clay and dried it,
and a plausible shape emerged.
Next, I had to sand the dried ring,
but I was told that since it wasn't completely hardened yet,
it could easily break if dropped.
I was too cautious while sanding, and then got scared,
so I ended up asking the instructor for help.

The instructor at Noveau Twelve One-Day Class
was incredibly kind and clear with explanations, just like a kindergarten teacher,
and even helped finish the tricky parts,
so those who aren't particularly dexterous, like me,
don't need to worry too much.

After sanding was complete,
the ring was heated again to harden it.
Only after this step does it become durable and less prone to breaking,
and then with final sanding and cleaning,
the unique luster of silver truly shines through.

You could also adjust the level of polish
according to your desired style.
Since I love sparkly silver accessories,
I had it polished to be as shiny as possible.

Unlike buying a finished product,
from the color of the cubic zirconia to the ring's shape and polish,
I got to decide each detail myself,
which made me feel even more attached to it.
If you want to add laser engraving,
there's an additional charge of about ~$7 ~ ~$11 depending on the design. Please keep this in mind!

This time, I made a silver clay ring,
but the instructor was so incredibly kind and helpful,
that I'm eager to try making a crafted ring here
next time too.
A place where I could create my own unique ring,
Noveau Twelve, the ring workshop in Haenggung-dong, Suwon.
