Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen

Hey fellow travelers! Are you currently struggling to choose the perfect hotel in Taipei?
If so, you're in the right place. Today, I'm reviewing
the Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen,
an incredibly clean and comfortable hotel I stayed at recently.

It's literally a 10-second walk from Ximen Station,
making it ridiculously convenient for sightseeing, shopping, and finding great food.
To be completely honest, I was a bit worried about the bugs
that older buildings in Ximending are notorious for.
However, since this is a newer property that opened in 2024,
I had absolutely zero issues. It was spotlessly clean.
Even better, the entire building features its own built-in water purification system,
so you don't even need to pack a travel shower filter! 😀
In today's post, I'll be covering:
✔️ Overview of Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen |
✔️ My Honest, Unsponsored Room Review |
✔️ Price Comparison - How I Saved ~$77 |
✔️ The Downsides & FAQ |
Let's dive right in!
1. Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen Hotel

The accommodation I chose for this trip
is a highly-rated Taipei hotel:
Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen.
As you might have guessed from the name,
Sotetsu is a well-known Japanese hotel brand.
I had previously stayed at one of their properties in Osaka
and had a fantastic experience, which made booking this one an easy choice.

While most standard hotel rooms in Taipei are notoriously cramped,
the basic rooms here are surprisingly spacious at around 350 square feet.
Coupled with the fact that it's located right outside Ximen Station,
the bustling heart of Taipei,
booking this place was a no-brainer.

2. Honest Taipei Hotel Review

Located about an hour from the airport,
Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei is incredibly easy to reach.
It's just one subway stop away from
Taipei Main Station,
making the accessibility top-tier.
It sits right across from the Ximending night market and food streets,
making it the ultimate home base for exploring the city.

The main lobby is located on the 2nd floor.
The 1st floor is dedicated exclusively to the breakfast restaurant.
(Breakfast must be added separately)
Since it opened in 2024, I expected
it to be modern, but
I was genuinely surprised by just how pristine everything still is.

They have a smart locker system for luggage storage,
which felt very secure and convenient to use.

There's also a self-serve amenities bar in the lobby
where you can grab whatever toiletries you need during your stay.
The room I booked was the
Standard Deluxe Room (No View) at the
Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei.

Since we were right in the city center, I didn't care much about a view,
so I went with the most budget-friendly basic room.
We were assigned a room on the 14th floor (the top floor).

As soon as we walked in, I was blown away by how crisp and clean it was.
The room featured a large double bed, a cozy sofa,
and a proper work desk, which was great for catching up on emails.

The bathroom was also surprisingly large.
But the real game-changer is that the hotel has a building-wide water purification system,
meaning you don't need to install your own shower filter!
Taiwan is known for having hard water,
so many travelers usually pack filtered showerheads.
Here, you don't have to worry about that at all..!

Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all provided in-room,
along with a hair dryer and even pajamas. You could literally show up empty-handed.

The toilet is housed in a separate room from the shower,
which always makes sharing a space much more comfortable.

Just a quick note on the provided pajamas: they fit average-sized women
perfectly, but they run a bit small for most men.
My husband ended up just wearing the sleepwear he brought.

There's also a long luggage rack built into the closet area.
It was long enough for us to keep two 24-inch suitcases open
side-by-side, which made unpacking and packing a breeze.
Most importantly, despite Taipei's hot and humid weather,
the room had no musty smells and felt completely fresh.
Even though it's a 4-star hotel, it genuinely felt like 5-star quality.

If I ever return to Taipei, I would book this
Ximending hotel again in a heartbeat!
3. How to Book Taipei Hotels on a Budget

It's true that there are plenty of accommodations in Taipei
available for under ~$77 a night.
However, if you base your decision purely on price, you often end up with
poor locations, questionable cleanliness, or claustrophobic rooms.
After reading horror stories, my goal for this trip was
to prioritize quality over just snagging the absolute lowest price.
✔️ A reasonable price point.
✔️ A clean, modern, and fresh room.
✔️ A highly accessible location for sightseeing.
The place that perfectly hit all three of these criteria was
the Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen.

I usually just go straight to Trip.com or Agoda,
apply a discount code, and book my hotels.
But this time, I managed to book it for about ~$77 cheaper than those direct sites.
The trick is utilizing real-time hotel price comparison platforms!!
1) KAYAK
2) HotelsCombined
3) Hotels.com
1️⃣ KAYAK | ~$131 | |
2️⃣ HotelsCombined | ~$131 | |
3️⃣ Hotels.com | ~$146 |
On Trip.com or Agoda,
the rate was hovering around ~$162 per night,
but on the comparison sites above,
it dropped all the way down to the ~$131 range!!
When calculating my total stay, there was a difference of about ~$77,
so I immediately secured my booking through KAYAK.
As the travel season approaches, rooms are highly likely to sell out,
so if your Taipei itinerary is set,
I highly recommend booking your room ASAP!
4. The Downsides
As much as I absolutely loved this Taipei accommodation,
there was one minor drawback.
Even though the bathroom is quite spacious, there is no bathtub.
One of the usual perks of staying at a Japanese hotel brand
is having a deep soaking tub to relax in after a long day of walking,
but Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei does not feature tubs in these rooms.
Just something to keep in mind if you love baths.
Other than that, everything was flawless!
Fresh, spotlessly clean, and wonderfully spacious!
5. FAQ & Final Thoughts

Q. Is it really that close to Ximen Station?
Yes, it's directly in front of Exit 2.
It's perfect for quickly dropping off shopping bags or hitting the night markets,
and there's a bus stop right outside the front doors too!
It is arguably the best location in Taipei for travelers relying on public transit.

Q. How is the breakfast at Sotetsu Grand Taipei?
The breakfast setup is a bit unique; instead of a buffet,
you get a set menu item at the restaurant on the 1st floor.
While reviews say the food is delicious, I personally feel the magic of
hotel breakfasts lies in the buffet, so I opted out this time!
Q. Are there many international guests?
Yes, plenty! Because it's practically inside a major tourist hub, you'll see many international travelers, especially from Japan and Korea.
It has a very welcoming, global atmosphere.

In a walking-heavy city like Taipei,
your hotel's location will make or break your trip.
Sotetsu Grand Fresa truly offers
unbeatable accessibility for exploring the city.
Plus, as a newer property, it's incredibly pristine and modern,
making it highly recommended for couples or those traveling with parents.
