An Honest Review of Goseong Beach (With Showers!)
🌊 For this summer getaway, I went on a road trip to Goseong, Sokcho, and Samcheok (?)
in beautiful Gangwon-do.
I’ll save all the random stories from the highway rest stops for my daily journal
since my hands are already itching to type them all out! haha
We were debating between here and Mangsang Beach, but we ultimately chose this spot!

p.s. We even packed our own snorkeling gear and fins,
but we ended up just renting tubes and splashing around... lol
1. Songjiho Beach in Goseong
I noticed there weren't many posts with a clean, organized guide to this beach,
so here is a handy guide based on my visit last week! 📝
📍Address: 8, Oho-ri, Jugwang-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do
🅿️Parking: Paid parking available for ~$3
🚿 Showers: Available (~$3 per person)
Typically open for summer (July–August); currently open for the season
💵 Beach Entrance: Free
✔️ Wooden Picnic Platforms: ~$19 for a standard size / ~$32 to ~$45 for a large size
Prices might be negotiable or change depending on the day *.
+ Parasols also seem to be available for rent (I saw some near the entrance).
Since the beach is so spacious, different vendors manage different spots,
so it's best to check the exact rates when you arrive.
With those quick facts out of the way, let’s dive into the details!
Even though we visited during peak, peak summer holiday season,
the parking lot had plenty of spots, and we paid ~$3.
The sky was so incredibly blue and clear~~
It was absolutely perfect weather for swimming in the sea.
Come to think of it, this was our first trip within Korea in two and a half years...
We both suddenly realized and gasped, haha! No wonder it felt so fresh and exciting.
2. Restrooms (You can change into swimsuits here!)
We asked the parking attendant where we could change into our swimsuits,
and they told us we could just use the restrooms nearby.
I absolutely love the ocean,
but this prep work is always such a chore~~ • ᴗ •̥ ˳ ˳
(Though once I get in the water, I have the absolute best time)
The attendant also pointed out a secret path that was supposedly a shortcut for snorkeling,
but it was blocked off. Save yourself the trouble and don't go that way! ❌
3. Wooden Picnic Platforms at Songjiho Beach
I thought the wooden platforms (pyeongsang) were free,
but they weren't... (no wonder there were quite a few empty spots!)
They asked for
~$19 per person just to use one platform (totally shocked, haha) 🫨🫨
Since we weren't planning on staying for too long anyway,
we skipped the platforms and just spread out our picnic mat to set our things down.
4. Snorkeling
We had heard that snorkeling is great here,
so we brought all our gear...
Looking out at Songjiho Beach, on the right side, in the shallow water,
mostly families and kids were snorkeling,
VS
on the left side, most people were riding the waves with tubes and life jackets.
We arrived around 4 PM (the traffic was absolutely insane because of peak season;;)
The snorkeling area was quite crowded,
and the water looked a bit cloudy from the stirred-up sand and seaweed, making it hard to spot fish.
(If you venture further out to the right, you might find clearer spots.)
Since we had just swam with sea turtles and tons of fish in the crystal-clear waters of Bali late last year, we figured this might not satisfy us. Plus, riding the waves looked so much more fun!
So, before it got any later, we quickly ran over to rent a tube! 🛟
5. Tubing Rental
✔️ Tube rental was ~$6 each, with a ~$6 deposit,
and we could only use them until 5 PM.
We thought that wouldn't be enough time, but after a non-stop, action-packed 30 minutes,
we were completely satisfied! ✧•̀.̫•́✧
haha, oh my gosh, it was so incredibly fun.
Usually, whenever I visit places like this, I end up with chapped lips or random scrapes, but...
He ran in all excited, only to get scraped on the very first wave
by a rock or a seashell, apparently. (Last time he busted his lip
lololol)
Ouuuuch, that hurts so bad!
but hey, as long as we had pure, unadulterated fun, that's all that matters!
^^
But I always feel this way—ocean waves are so much fun,
but the seawater is just way too salty. Ptu, ptu! And it stings my eyes so bad!!
Jeyoung was also struggling with stinging eyes, looking all dazed,
and then suddenly flashed this super bright peace sign lol
We saw lots of couples, and especially families with kids,
which really made it feel like peak summer vacation season ~~
on that beautiful day 🌊 💙
For me, 30 minutes in the seawater is the absolute limit.
I start getting a bit of motion sickness, and staying in too long just drains all my energy haha.
Making my legs look 2 meters l ✌°౪° ✌)=͟͟͞͞(
6. Shower Facilities
There were actually quite a few shower facilities around,
and we ended up using one affiliated with a nearby guesthouse.
You'll easily spot showers scattered here and there as you walk around.
The place I went to was a bit basic and rustic,
but it was actually quite spacious inside, so I could wash up comfortably. (~$3 per person)
I accidentally left my towel in the car, but the sweet owner kindly lent me one.
We bought some snacks, along with some ointment and band-aids,
applied them to his scraped leg, and headed off to our accommodation haha.
The coastal drive on the way to our place was absolutely stunning.
The fresh scent of the ocean breeze felt so incredibly refreshing.
7. Summary & Tips
My review of Songjiho Beach, a highly recommended Goseong beach (Showers available!)
✔️ Highly recommended if you're looking for a great beach in Goseong!
✔️ It has the perfect vibe for a family getaway.
(For 2 people just hanging out for a bit, the wooden platforms (pyeongsang) cost around ~$19 to ~$45,
which felt a bit pricey. It might be better to bring your own picnic mat!)
* But if you're going with family and staying all day, renting one is definitely worth it!
✔️ I just floated around on an inner tube, but if you go snorkeling,
it looks like you can spot some fish 🐟🐠 / (Though the water isn't crystal clear.)
(If you're expecting tropical islands or Jeju, you might be a little disappointed!)
✔️ Tube rental is ~$6 with a ~$6 deposit,
so if you have your own tube, I highly recommend bringing it!
✔️ There are lifeguards on duty constantly blowing their whistles,
which made us feel very safe.
Plus, there are restrooms and shower facilities (~$3) nearby, making it super convenient
to wash off after swimming. 🚿
