I heard there was a unique cafe selling fish cakes right in front of Donghae Station, so I had to check it out! The cafe is called 'Solande,' and there was so much to see and explore inside that time just flew by.

Solande Location

Cafe Solande is incredibly easy to find. As soon as you exit Donghae Station, simply cross one crosswalk diagonally (about 10 o'clock direction), and you're there! I arrived a bit early to catch my KTX train after my Donghae trip, with about an hour to spare, so this cafe was the perfect pit stop.

I'd never seen a cafe that also sold 'eomuk' (Korean fish cakes) before! Unfortunately, the 'cup eomuk' is a seasonal menu item, only available starting in the fall. However, they did have an 'eomuk bar' available, so I decided to order some along with my coffee.
Inside Solande

Stepping inside Solande, I was pleasantly surprised! The space is quite large and charmingly decorated. It felt like a true workshop or craft studio, filled with countless unique handmade items and trinkets.

I seemed to be the only traveler there; most of the patrons appeared to be Donghae locals. The tables were comfortably spaced with dividers, creating a relaxed atmosphere perfect for chatting and laughter. There's even more seating further inside.

The studio side was packed with all sorts of everyday tools and household items, lovingly crafted. Many were kitchen-related, making them perfect for those living alone or as thoughtful gifts for parents.
Menu & Prices

Let's check out Solande's menu. An Iced Americano for ~$2 and a Cafe Latte for ~$3 are incredibly reasonable prices! My eyes were immediately drawn to the eomuk (fish cake) section in the bottom right. The cup eomuk is seasonal, but I ordered an eomuk bar to try.

The menu board, adorned with charming illustrations, adds to the cafe's delightful ambiance. It's clear a lot of thought and effort went into decorating the space with these personal touches.

Just by glancing at the neatly arranged coffee machines and tools, you can tell how well-maintained and clean everything is. Sparkling!

They also offer financiers, various cakes, and a morning set from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. If you order a ciabatta sandwich, you get a complimentary Americano!

After ordering my coffee, I couldn't just sit still! I was too busy exploring all the fascinating items. If you're visiting Donghae Station with friends, this cafe is an absolute must-visit.

My coffee and eomuk bar arrived! The fish cake came with a delicious dipping sauce, and they even served a small biscuit with the coffee.

This was such a wonderful way to cap off my Donghae trip. It had been a while since I'd enjoyed a plump eomuk bar – usually, I only grab them at highway rest stops, so who would've thought I'd be having one at a cafe? It was an excellent choice!

I wish I could introduce each and every one of the unique items and crafts, but there are simply too many! You'll just have to go and explore them slowly for yourself.

That was Solande, the charming fish cake cafe right in front of Donghae Station. Whether you're wrapping up a Donghae adventure and waiting for your train like I was, or starting your journey with a relaxing coffee, this cafe is a fantastic choice. What I thought would be a small, ordinary cafe turned out to be so much more, with plenty to see and excellent coffee. I'd give it five stars!
