At first, I wondered, "Is it really worth the trek out to Mandai?"
I had my doubts,
but after visiting in person,
I realized it's so much more than just looking at animals behind glass.
Walking through lush, towering rainforests,

the incredibly open, immersive environment
really blew me away.

How to Book Singapore Zoo Tickets
While you can purchase tickets at the gate,
it's highly recommended to
book online beforehand
once your travel dates are locked in.
Just secure your booking before you head out,
save the voucher on your phone,
and simply show the mobile voucher or QR code
for quick and easy admission!

Inside Mandai Wildlife Reserve,
there are 5 distinct park zones:
Singapore Zoo
Rainforest Wild
River Wonders
Bird Paradise
Night Safari
With all these options,
the big question is whether to visit just one park, or explore them all!
It's a tough decision.
Visiting just one feels like missing out,
but doing all five might feel a bit overwhelming, right?
That's why most travelers end up choosing 2 to 3 parks.
If you're planning on visiting 3 or more,
opting for the
Mandai All-Park Pass (Unlimited Wildlife Pass)
is by far the best deal for your wallet.

After experiencing it myself,
I can safely say that every single park is absolutely worth the visit.
They're all so wonderfully designed!
Even if you initially plan to see just two,
you might change your mind once you get there.
So, grabbing the multi-park pass gives you that ultimate flexibility!

But with the tropical Southeast Asian weather,
you might wonder, "Can I really stay here all day?"
I highly recommend making your decision based on
your actual available viewing time and energy levels when planning your visit.

Singapore Zoo Opening Hours & Best Times to Visit
Singapore Zoo's standard opening hours are
generally from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
Last entry is usually at 5:00 PM for most areas
(excluding Night Safari),
though they are sometimes flexible enough
to let you in until 5:10 PM.
Night Safari: 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM (Midnight)

However, since hours can change depending on the season, special events,
or facility maintenance,
it's super important to check the official updates before you go!
If possible, I highly recommend arriving
right when the gates open.
The morning temperature is a bit cooler than midday,
making it much easier to walk around,
and you can explore the popular zones with fewer crowds!

There are so many activities in each zone—it feels like so much more than just a regular zoo, which is amazing!
On the flip side, entering late in the afternoon
is convenient for transitioning straight into the Night Safari,
but even if the zoo is still open,
it might be tough to properly explore all the zones.

Singapore Zoo is seriously massive,
and once you add in shows and dining,
4 hours will fly by in the blink of an eye.

For the animal shows and feeding programs,
it's best to check the daily schedule and locations first,
then plan your walking route
around those key times.

My Honest Review & Experience
When I actually visited, the first thing that hit me was
"Wow, this place is way bigger than I expected!"
If you only look around the entrance,
it feels like a regular zoo.
But as you head deeper inside,
the trails branch off in so many directions,
and the walking distances between animal zones
can get pretty long.

So instead of just wandering aimlessly when you enter,
it's smart to take a look at the map first
and pick your absolute must-see animals and shows.
At first, I thought I could easily see everything on foot,
but as time went on, the tram became an absolute lifesaver!

While the tram doesn't go through every single zone,
riding it wherever available
is a great way to keep exploring with your kids
even when they (and you!) start to tire out from the heat.
Walking was pretty manageable in the morning,
but once afternoon hit, the humidity and heat definitely kicked in.
Even though there are plenty of shaded zones,
there are also paths with zero shelter from the blazing sun,
so taking regular breaks for meals and cold drinks
became absolutely essential!

Instead of trying to see it all in one go,
taking a quick breather in an air-conditioned indoor area or café
made a world of difference before heading back out.
Make sure to pack plenty of water, a hat, and sunscreen!!
And don't forget to pack a compact umbrella
just in case of sudden tropical showers ><
While we absolutely loved our experience at Singapore Zoo,
it was definitely more tiring than we expected.
So, on the day you plan to visit Mandai Wildlife Reserve,
I highly recommend not scheduling any other city sightseeing!
If you're planning to stay for the Night Safari in the evening,
be sure to make full use of the trams and rest areas
to pace yourself and save some energy
for the nighttime fun! 👍🏻

How to Combine Singapore Zoo and Night Safari in One Itinerary
If you're planning to take your time exploring just the Singapore Zoo,
a single-admission ticket is more than enough.

Since the zoo itself is massive with so much to see,
there's no need to force yourself to add other parks.
However, if you can dedicate a whole day to Mandai,
since you've made it all this way! Why not check out multiple parks,
and wrap up your evening with the Night Safari?
I grabbed some dinner before entering the Night Safari.
I chose to eat at
Watami (a Japanese restaurant) in the Dining Connection area,
and had a wonderful meal!

There's also a food court called Food Republic,
so if you find something you crave there,
it's another great spot for a quick and easy bite!

This was actually my very first time
experiencing the Night Safari here at Mandai Singapore,

and seeing the animals active at night
offered a completely different vibe.
It didn't feel like just another zoo visit at all!

If you're planning to visit the Night Safari too,
I highly recommend checking out the other parks like Bird Paradise or River Wonders in the morning,
exploring the main zoo during the day,
taking a nice break for dinner right before the Night Safari,
and then heading into the night adventure.
This is honestly the best itinerary
to make the absolute most of your full day out here.

If you're looking for a change of pace
from the usual city sightseeing,
or if you're searching for an unforgettable Singapore experience
to share with your kids,
I highly, highly recommend Mandai Singapore! ><
Since it's an outdoor destination, the tropical heat can be a bit draining,
but as long as you prep well,
you'll have an amazing, leisurely time exploring everything
right up until the thrilling Night Safari!!
