If you're planning a visit to Singapore's iconic Sultan Mosque,
there's one eatery I absolutely insist you check out: Singapore Zam Zam.
I first discovered this place a decade ago, back in 2016, and it left such an impression that I had to return on my latest Singapore trip in 2026. For anyone exploring Singapore, this is a legendary local spot you simply cannot miss, boasting an incredible 100-year tradition. This is my honest review of Singapore Zam Zam, a true culinary institution.
Let's dive into the exotic flavors of Arab Street!

📍Singapore Zam Zam Highlights
✔️ Opened in 1908
A century-old favorite, renowned for Singapore's best Murtabak & Briyani.
✔️ Visually striking Red Bone Dish (Sup Tulang)
The perfect pairing with crispy-on-the-outside, juicy-on-the-inside Murtabak.
✔️ Located directly opposite Sultan Mosque
A haven for authentic local food at incredibly reasonable prices.
A Must-Visit on Your Singapore Itinerary: Arab Street's Culinary Gem
As you wander through Singapore's vibrant Haji Lane and admire the majestic Sultan Mosque, a distinctive green building will catch your eye. That's Singapore Zam Zam. Operating since 1908, it's celebrated by locals and tourists alike as a truly unforgettable dining experience.
I vividly remember enjoying a delicious meal here during my summer 2016 visit, and I made sure to stop by again this year, 2026. Right next door, you'll find another famous eatery called Victory, but the crowds perpetually gathering outside Zam Zam, packed with locals, speak volumes about its enduring appeal.
While some diners brave the outdoor seating, I highly recommend asking for a table on the second floor. You'll get the full nostalgic, old-school vibe with the added bonus of refreshing air conditioning!
Zam Zam Menu & Prices: Unbeatable Value!
The menu at Zam Zam is incredibly diverse, but the undisputed stars are their Murtabak and Briyani.
✔️Murtabak
Choose from Mutton, Beef, Chicken, or even Deer! Available in various sizes, with prices ranging from $7 to $23.
My travel companion and I opted for small sizes of both the Mutton and Beef Murtabak. As it's a Muslim establishment, you won't find any pork on the menu.

✔️Briyani
This aromatic Indian-style fried rice, bursting with spices, is incredibly affordable at around $9 to $10.
❗Don't overlook other highly recommended bone dishes like the Lamb Shank or the striking Sup Tulang!
❗As a Muslim restaurant, alcohol is not served.
Murtabak and Sup Tulang: An Honest Review
1. Murtabak: The Epitome of Crispy & Juicy Perfection

The Murtabak arrived first, a thin flour pancake generously stuffed with seasoned meat and vegetables, then pan-fried to perfection. With every bite, the initial crispness gives way to a burst of savory, juicy filling that truly floods your palate.

It's also fantastic when dipped into the rich, flavorful curry sauce served alongside. This dish is universally appealing and doesn't have any flavors that would typically be off-putting to a Western palate. However, if you're not a fan of the distinct flavor of lamb, I'd suggest going for the beef Murtabak instead.

2. Visual Shock! The Addictive Spice of Sup Tulang

The star of this vibrant red spectacle is the Sup Tulang, or Red Bone Dish. Its appearance is quite shocking at first glance, but I was pleasantly surprised by how incredibly delicious it tasted!

There's a real joy in picking up the large bones by hand and tearing off the tender meat. They say the ultimate experience is sucking out the bone marrow with a straw, but I have to admit, that was a step too far for me! Despite my initial hesitation, I found myself repeatedly reaching for more. It was also fun to see my hands and mouth turn a vibrant red from the delicious sauce.

Final Verdict & Getting There
If you're planning to tackle the bone dish, make sure to bring some wet wipes or even disposable gloves! The restaurant doesn't provide them, although there is a sink available for handwashing.
📍Recommended Menu
For groups, I suggest ordering one of each Murtabak variety, plus a Briyani to share. And absolutely be adventurous and try the Red Bone Dish!
