Singapore River Cruise Guide 2026: Day vs Night & Ticket Tips
Discover the best time to take the Singapore River Cruise, how to score ticket deals, and the perfect nearby spots to add to your 2026 family itinerary.

While riding the Singapore River Cruise,
one thought kept crossing my mind.
"Wow, I absolutely have to add this to the itinerary
when I come back with my mom."

Gliding along on a slow-moving boat
was the perfect way to take in Singapore's major landmarks
at a totally relaxed pace.
Even the iconic Marina Bay Sands
looks completely different from the water.
You get to see the incredible curves and architectural details
that you simply can't appreciate from directly underneath.

1. Booking Your Singapore River Cruise 2. Where to Board 3. Day vs. Night Cruise Times 4. Best Add-on Spots for a Family Itinerary |
Booking Your Singapore River Cruise
You don't absolutely have to book
your Singapore River Cruise tickets in advance;
you can buy them right at the ticket counter.
However, there is a noticeable price difference.

| Adult | Child |
~$21 | ~$13 | |
~$20 | ~$13 | |
On-site Purchase | S$28 (~$23) | S$18 (~$15) |
The price difference between booking platforms
isn't huge, so just go with
the site you usually prefer.
The best part? Even if you book in advance,
the tickets are open-dated and open-timed,
making it super flexible to fit
into your family vacation schedule.

My personal recommendation is the
kkday River Cruise + Grab Travel Pass combo.
For just an extra ~$1,
you get a kkday package that includes
a Grab Travel Pass.

The Grab Travel Pass includes
50% off airport pickups,
15% off Grab Premium, 10% off regular rides,
and free Grab food delivery,
among other fantastic perks.
(Offers up to S$120 in value)

Pro Tip:
Only one person needs to buy the combo package,
while the rest of your group can just get standard tickets.
Given Singapore's hot and humid weather,
I ended up using Grab quite a few times.
Having that pass would have been
incredibly useful for my trip.

Boarding Location & Route Guide
Where to Board
You can board the Singapore River Cruise
at the Clarke Quay Jetty.

It's just a 5-minute walk
from the Clarke Quay MRT station.
You'll easily spot it
with all the bumboats gathered by the riverbank.

Canning Ln, Singapore
Route Guide
Round trip from Clarke Quay Jetty |
Singapore's city skyline and riverside attractions (Boat Quay → Merlion Park → Marina Bay Sands, etc.) |
The entire loop takes about 40 minutes,
giving you plenty of time to kick back
and admire Singapore's most iconic
waterfront sights from the boat.

TIP:
Before boarding, you must exchange your mobile voucher
for a physical ticket at the on-site ticket booth.
Expect a bit of a queue
during peak evening hours.

Best Time for the Singapore River Cruise:
Day vs. Night
Debating whether to take the cruise
during the day or at night?
I've done both, and I can tell you
each time of day has its own unique charm.

Taking the Day Cruise
If you hop on during the day,
you get a crystal-clear, panoramic view
of Singapore's towering skyscrapers
and iconic architecture.

Seeing the distinct shapes of the buildings—
like the durian, the lotus flower, and the ship—
felt almost like taking a guided architecture tour.
Personally, I found the daytime views
even more awe-inspiring than the night skyline.
Plus, there's rarely a wait,
so you can usually board right away.

The downside? The intense tropical sun.
Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat are absolute musts.
Since the boat moves quite slowly,
you won't get much of a cool breeze.

Taking the Night Cruise
The vibe completely shifts after dark.
You're treated to a spectacular night view,
with the cityscape illuminated by thousands of lights.

It's highly recommended to time your ride
with the sunset or the Marina Bay water show.
If you want to catch the Spectra light and water show (8 PM or 9 PM),
aim to board around 7:40 PM or 8:40 PM
so you're in position when it starts.

However, keep in mind that the sunset to nighttime window
is incredibly popular with large tour groups,
so the lines get noticeably longer.
It can be a bit tricky to nail down your exact preferred time.

Perfect Add-ons for a
Singapore Family Itinerary
If you're planning a family trip to Singapore,
here are a couple of nearby spots
that pair perfectly with a river cruise.
Nearby Photo Spots
1. Fort Canning Park Tree Tunnel

Located just behind Clarke Quay inside Fort Canning Park,
this is a wildly popular photo spot.
When you look up from the bottom of the spiral staircase,
you see a circular tunnel framing a massive tree.
The sprawling branches silhouetted against the sky
almost look like the veins of a beating heart.
Just a heads-up: the line to take a photo here can get pretty long!

2. Old Hill Street Police Station
On your way to Clarke Quay, you can't miss
the building with the rainbow-colored windows.
This is the historic Old Hill Street Police Station.
With over 900 windows painted in vibrant shades
of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple,
the facade looks more like a modern art installation
than a former police station.
