You might think, "An urban planning gallery? Sounds a bit dry!" But step inside, and you'll be amazed by its jaw-dropping scale and intricate detail. Plus, it's a fantastic advantage to explore this fascinating exhibition indoors, away from Singapore's often warm weather, and completely free of charge.

1. The Massive 'Singapore City Model' (2nd Floor)

The absolute highlight of the gallery is undoubtedly the colossal city model on the second floor. This miniature representation of Singapore boasts incredible detail for every single building, making it fun to spot hotels you've stayed in or famous landmarks you've visited.

The model even features dynamic lighting that simulates day turning into night. Even after three visits to Singapore, I still make sure to stop by this essential attraction every time!

2. Ingenious Strategies for Limited Land

As of 2026, Singapore's total land area is approximately 284.3 square miles. To put that in perspective, it's roughly 1.2 times the size of Seoul (about 233.7 square miles) and slightly smaller than Busan (approximately 297.3 square miles).

Directly across from the gallery is the famous Maxwell Food Centre. We grabbed lunch there before our gallery visit. The queue for the renowned Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice was quite long, so we skipped it, but the food we ordered based on pictures was delicious and affordable, leaving us very satisfied.

The gallery is also close to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the Sri Mariamman Temple, a Hindu temple, making it easy to combine your visit with a tour of Chinatown's cultural sights.
