Broadly speaking, there are three main ways to get from Singapore City to Changi Airport:

Let's dive into each option with a quick overview.

1. Public Transport

When it comes to public transport to the airport,

you have two fantastic choices: the MRT subway and the public bus system.

While travel times can vary slightly depending on your starting point,

both options typically take about an hour, and are

the most budget-friendly, costing around 2-3 SGD.

However, you'll likely need to make at least one transfer, and

lugging heavy suitcases around on your last, most tiring day of travel

can be a bit of a challenge.

Therefore, I'd highly recommend this option for solo travelers

or friends exploring together, rather than families.

2. Pre-booked Private Transfer

Your second fantastic option is booking a private transfer.

With a pre-booked transfer to the airport, you arrange for a driver

and a specific vehicle to pick you up at your desired location and time.

The journey to the airport takes about 30 minutes, and the cost ranges

from approximately ~$63 to ~$74, depending on the vehicle size.

While this is generally the most expensive option, it offers incredible convenience.

You can choose the perfect vehicle based on the number of passengers and luggage,

and even book an 8-seater! This makes it surprisingly cost-effective, especially for larger family groups.

I'd highly recommend this for families traveling with children or elderly parents,

or for anyone with a lot of luggage.

3. Grab and Ride-Hailing Services

Your third option is using ride-hailing services like Grab.

It's similar to a private transfer but operates on demand –

you simply hail a ride through the app when you're ready to go, rather than pre-booking.

While significantly more expensive than public transport,

it's roughly half the price of a pre-booked private transfer.

Plus, you can choose from smaller sedans to medium-sized vehicles

depending on your group size, making it an excellent choice for 2-4 travelers.

For reference, our medium-sized Grab to the airport cost 56.65 SGD,

and a standard sedan would be roughly half that price, so keep that in mind!

My Grab Experience to Changi Airport

Since I was traveling with my parents, a family trip,

we opted for a medium-sized vehicle via Grab.

Our ride was almost instantly matched, and we waited about 7 minutes for the pickup.

We were assigned a spacious 7-seater minivan,

with seating for five in the back and two upfront.

Our family brought four 20-inch suitcases,

and they all fit perfectly in the car's trunk.

However, the trunk wasn't as spacious as I expected,

so I don't think four medium-to-large suitcases would fit.

Therefore, if you have a lot of luggage,

using a pickup service might be more comfortable.

The car's back seats had really generous legroom,

and there were also handles on the side, making it feel very stable.

On the road to the airport, landmarks like Gardens by the Bay,

the Singapore Flyer, and Marina Bay Sands

were all visible at a glance.

It was a really bittersweet moment to think that we had to

leave these beautiful sights behind.

After about a 30-minute drive, we arrived at Changi Airport.

Our departure terminal was Terminal 4,

but we intentionally came to Terminal 1 a bit early.

That's because Terminal 1 is connected to the Jewel Changi shopping mall,

where you can explore great restaurants, shop, and even enjoy the fountain show!

Thankfully, our driver was not only a great driver

but also kindly helped us with our luggage,

making our trip to the airport incredibly comfortable.

If you're a group of 4 with light luggage, like us,

Grab will definitely be a convenient option to get to the airport!

Traveling by Car is Best on Your Last Day
