Craving delicious Beijing duck in Shanghai without breaking the bank? Siji Minfu offers an authentic experience with reasonable prices near The Bund.
Savoring Beijing Duck in Shanghai
Pecking chamber
Hello everyone!
Today, I'm excited to share a fantastic Beijing Duck restaurant
I visited in Shanghai.
It's a place where you can enjoy Beijing Duck
at a really reasonable price.
四季民福烤鸭店(外滩外白渡桥店)
Including a bottle of Gaoliang liquor, it came out to ~$73 for two.
If you take out the alcohol, it was around ~$51,
making it a truly affordable way for two people
to savor Beijing Duck!

Location
📍四季民福烤鸭店(外滩外白渡桥店)
吴淞路130号城投控股大厦辅楼彩虹北三层
📍 Chengtou Bldg Let's Charge Charging
Chengtou Holding Building, 1/3层130 Wusong Rd, 130, Hongkou District, Shanghai, China 200080
While the restaurant name is as it appears in the title,
it doesn't show up easily on Google Maps.
So, I recommend searching for 'Chengtou Bldg Let's Charge Charging'
城投控股大厦充电队长电动汽车充电站
to find your way.
It's located on the 3rd floor of the Chengtou Holding Building.
It's a good idea to search separately on Dianping
to confirm the location.

Walk-in Visits
On a weekend evening,
you can expect to wait for about an hour.
The restaurant is incredibly spacious,
so even with a long wait, things move pretty quickly.
Since we weren't super hungry, we arrived later,
around 8 PM, without a reservation.
There were 140 teams ahead of us,
and our waiting number was in the 600s!
It was a number I'd never seen before, but we decided to wait anyway.
For a moment, I worried, 'What if all the Beijing Duck sells out?'
But those worries were completely unfounded...
In China, running out of ingredients seems to be a non-issue!
There seemed to be a lot of large family groups,
and with 140 teams waiting,
I was quite concerned. However, after about 70 minutes,
we were shown to our table.
There's even a waiting room where you can comfortably sit while you wait.
Menu
You can check the menu
on the Dianping app.
It's an app I found incredibly useful during my Shanghai trip.
📌 Dianping App
If you view it on the app,
you can see photos, translated menu names,
and even reviews for each dish,
so you can browse the menu while you wait! 😉
📌 Paper Menu
They also provide a paper menu
to browse while you wait.
We checked off our choices on the paper menu,
and when we handed it over,
they confirmed our order.

📌 Whole duck or half duck for two people?
As your turn approaches while waiting,
they'll ask if you want a whole duck
or a half duck.
After much deliberation, thinking, 'We came all this way for this!',
we decided to go for a whole duck! Haha.
It was a little generous,
but I think a whole duck is just right for two people!
📌What is the 'Duck bone processing fee'?!
Seeing 'Duck bone processing fee,'
I wondered if they were charging extra for the carving performance.
But no,
the carving was actually included when we ordered the roasted tender duck.
The duck bone processing fee actually referred to
duck soup!
Dishes Ordered
Roasted Tender Duck 259위안
Duck bone processing fee 25위안 (Duck Soup)
Duck Pancake 6위안 (pancakes)
Condiments (vegetables) 6위안
Mean Bean Sprout with sauce 45위안
Kung Pao chicken 궁파오지딩 59위안
Total 400위안 (approximately ~$54)
+Gaoliang liquor 142위안
And then, the truly glistening
Beijing Duck arrived!

The skin of the Beijing Duck was incredibly thick,
It was definitely a different experience from eating it in Korea!

They first slice the top, fattiest part for you.
Dip it in sugar and take a bite.
It was incredibly delicious and shiny!

It looks like they prepare hundreds of these a day,
because they sliced it so quickly and expertly!

The rest of the duck was also beautifully sliced
and served.

The thickness was definitely different...

They meticulously prepare even the leg portions.
(Actually, they even prepare the duck's head... wow!)
Gong Bao Ji Ding (Kung Pao Chicken)
We also ordered a dish called
Gong Bao Ji Ding, which is seasoned fried chicken.
It's delicious when eaten warm.

It came out perfectly fried and juicy.

It's stir-fried with peanuts and green onions,
and with its sweet, savory, and spicy combination,
it's easy to pick at, making it a perfect snack with drinks!
Gaoliang Liquor (Erguotou)
Chinese food definitely calls for Gaoliang liquor!
So, we ordered Erguotou.
There's a liquor with the same name in Korea,
but this felt like a slightly more premium version.

It's 52% ABV!
It was so strong that I could only manage a few sips 😵💫.
Haha, it would've been better if we went with more people,
which was a little bit of a shame.
Crispy Sprout Salad
The Chinese name was difficult,
so I'll write it by its Korean translated name.
It's a vegetable dish tossed in a salad dressing,
which helps cut through any richness,
and the chips sprinkled on top? They add an amazing texture.
It pairs absolutely perfectly with rich Chinese food.
A definite must-order!

How to Eat Peking Duck
The beautifully prepared Peking duck comes with
green onions, cucumbers, bell peppers (?), garlic, sauce, and sugar,
among other things.
They even demonstrate how to eat it right in front of you.
They make one for each person so there's no fighting over them haha.

1. Lay out a pancake.
2. Place Peking duck, lightly dipped in sugar, at the 2/3 mark.
3. Dip cucumber and green onion in sauce and add them.
4. Fold both sides of the pancake as if swaddling a baby.
5. Straight into your mouth!

I followed the instructions,
and doesn't it look pretty good?

With one duck between two people, you can eat to your heart's content,
so we even added an extra order of pancakes.

Duck Soup
For the final dish,
we had Duck Soup made with prepared duck.
Honestly, duck soup is something I'd crave if I'd had a lot to drink,
but the duck flavor is quite strong,
so it's a dish that really divides opinions.
(Still, at around ~$4, ordering it isn't a burden!)

This Beijing Duck restaurant was definitely the most satisfying meal of my Shanghai trip.
I highly recommend it!
I'll wrap up today's review here.
