If you're tired of tiny, cramped Japanese hotel rooms...
Do not skip this post!!
I finally escaped the notoriously small Tokyo hotel boxes.
I found a room for around ~$77-$150 where we could fully open two large suitcases!
Here is my honest, unsponsored review of the
Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main
When searching for Tokyo accommodations,
the biggest headache is always room size.
While prices vary wildly,
most standard rooms are so compact
that you literally have to jump over your luggage.

The Tokyo hotel I booked for this trip was
incredibly travel-friendly with plenty of floor space:
The Shinjuku Washington Hotel Tokyo Main.
I'll be sharing everything from the best booking links to discount codes,
so be sure to read until the end.
In today's post, we'll cover:
✔️ Why you absolutely need to book a Twin Room |
✔️ Honest review of Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main |
✔️ Pro-tips for scoring the lowest booking price |
Let's dive in!
1. Why I Recommend the Superior Twin Room
For my May 2026 trip to Japan,
I decided to stay in Shinjuku.
I chose a spot incredibly popular with international travelers:
The Shinjuku Washington Hotel Tokyo Main.

The hotel has a Main building and an Annex.
I stayed in the Main building.
A lot of reviews online complain that the rooms here are tiny,
but they are talking about the basic Economy rooms.
If you spend just a tiny bit more, you get a vastly superior experience.
Skip the Economy room
and book a Superior or Standard instead.
The Economy room is about 140 sq ft (13m2),
but the Superior room I booked is a generous 215 sq ft (20m2).

The best part? The price difference is only about ~$23 a day.
If you are splitting the room with a travel buddy,
for just a ~$12 investment per person,
you get a massively more comfortable Tokyo stay.

On top of the extra space,
✔️ It's perfectly located for subway access,
✔️ The rooms are spotless and fresh,
✔️ The Airport Limousine Bus stops right outside!
I highly recommend it as a home base for your Tokyo adventures.
Oh, and a quick pro-tip:
Even within the same room tier,
Twin bed rooms are usually slightly larger than Double bed rooms in Japan.
So always aim for a Twin if you want more space!

2. Honest Review of the Facilities

The Shinjuku Washington Hotel Tokyo Main
is located in the bustling heart of Tokyo.
It's about an 8-minute walk from Shinjuku Station.
✅ It's slightly distanced from the chaotic Kabukicho nightlife district,
making it great for families or quiet nights.
✅ It's located right across from the iconic Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

Because the pricing is so reasonable for the location,
they see around 200 bookings a day.

I've stayed at various hotels around Shinjuku,
but this one is connected to the station via an underground passage,
making it incredibly easy to roll your luggage around.

The main lobby is up on the 3rd floor.
Check-in and check-out are done via contactless kiosks.
They fully support English and other languages,
so the whole process was an absolute breeze.

Luggage storage is also super simple.
It's a self-service locker system with a PIN code—no need to wait for staff.
The room I stayed in was the
Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main Superior Twin.

Even though I was traveling with my husband,
we booked a Twin because they are noticeably larger than Double rooms.
(Twin rooms sell out fast, so book early!)
Room size was my top priority this trip,
and this definitely delivered.

Normally in Japan,
if you open two suitcases, you either have to close them immediately
or awkwardly shove them under the bed.
Here, it was spacious enough that we just left them open on the floor the whole time.
The bathroom had all the essentials,

And down in the hotel lobby, there is a fantastic amenity bar
stocked with coffee, tea, bath salts, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and more.

They even provide pajamas in the room,
so you could practically arrive empty-handed!
*A quick warning for Western travelers though:*
The pajamas run quite small! They fit me fine, but my husband found them way too tight.
(If you're an average to tall guy, definitely pack your own sleepwear).

I was worried about the hairdryer since my Dyson doesn't work well on Japanese voltage,
but the one provided had great airflow!

There were plenty of standard outlets,
as well as Type-C and USB ports right by the bed.

Having a proper mirror in the room was also super convenient.
These little details really elevated the experience
at the Shinjuku Washington Hotel.
As expected from a solid 4-star Tokyo property,
the overall satisfaction was very high.

Breakfast is around ~$19 per person,
which is a pretty reasonable price,
so I plan to try it out on my next visit.
Would absolutely stay here again!!
3. How to Book at the Lowest Price

Even for the exact same hotel,
prices can fluctuate depending on the booking platform,
so I always compare a few different sites.
I checked the rates again for today's date,
comparing the Superior Twin room.
(Remember, the Economy room will be even cheaper!)

When I originally booked, Klook was the cheapest,
so I booked through them with my own money,
but looking right now, Trip.com has the best deal.

Hotel prices are always a bit of a mystery!
They change based on the season, how far out you book, and remaining inventory.

4. Final Thoughts

If you are planning a trip to Tokyo,
I hope this hotel review helps you find the perfect home base.
I used to always suffer through tiny Japanese hotel rooms,
but after prioritizing space on this trip,
it genuinely changed the entire quality of my vacation.

No matter how much sightseeing you do,
the time you spend resting in your hotel is so important!
I highly suggest looking for Twin rooms that are over 194 sq ft (18m2)
to ensure you have a comfortable and stress-free stay.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment!
And remember, those Twin rooms go fast, so book while you can.
Happy travels!
