Shifen Waterfall Taiwan Bus Tour 2026: Bridge, Food & Scenic Views
Embark on a memorable Shifen Waterfall bus tour from Taipei in 2026. Experience the exhilarating suspension bridge and savor delicious local treats amidst Taiwan's breathtaking nature.

When planning a trip to Taiwan, you'll inevitably come across popular Taipei suburban tours like the 'Yehliu, Shifen, Jiufen, Jinguashi' (YESJJ) or 'Yehliu, Shifen, Waterfall, Jiufen' (YESWJ) routes.
This time, I also hopped on a tour bus
and enjoyed a super comfortable trip.
From magnificent natural beauty to mouth-watering local treats,
I'm excited to share my vivid review of Shifen Waterfall right now!
Shifen Waterfall Admission Fee & Opening Hours

Good news! Admission to Shifen Waterfall is absolutely free.
I heard it used to be a paid attraction,
but now you don't need to purchase a ticket
and can enter freely, making it a stress-free stop on any tour itinerary.
Shifen Waterfall's operating hours are from 09:00 to 17:30,
so keep that in mind if you're planning an independent visit or heading there later in the day.
The Thrilling Shifen Waterfall Suspension Bridge

On the path leading to the majestic waterfall,
you'll need to cross a suspension bridge!
To be honest, I'm usually not one for thrilling rides;
I even get dizzy just swinging on a playground swing!
The moment I stepped onto the bridge,
that slight swaying sensation
made my heart drop!
I avoided looking down, keeping my eyes fixed forward,
and carefully, cautiously made my way across!

For thrill-seekers out there,
you might think, 'What's so scary about this?',
and it might even feel a little boring!
But if you have acrophobia (fear of heights) like me,
or even a slight tendency to get dizzy,
I highly recommend holding hands tightly with your travel buddy as you cross!

Once you've safely crossed the suspension bridge,
you'll find remnants that show Shifen was once a mining village,
including old mining carts and railway tracks.

You'll also spot sculptures of horses and deer.
In Chinese culture, horses symbolize success and career advancement,
while deer are said to symbolize wealth, prosperity, and good fortune!
Shifen Waterfall: 'Taiwan's Niagara'

Venturing a little further in,
I was finally greeted by the refreshing sound of water
as Shifen Waterfall dramatically revealed itself!
After a brief and insightful explanation from our guide,
we were given some free time to explore!
While Shifen Waterfall's flow was quite impressive,
and more magnificent than I'd anticipated,
I still felt it was a bit modest to be dubbed 'Taiwan's Niagara.'
Nevertheless, it was the perfect spot to snap some memorable photos with the waterfall as a stunning backdrop,
and just stand for a moment, letting the soothing sound of the waterfall wash over me,
truly a healing experience!

If you head further up, there's a special viewpoint deck where you can admire the waterfall from a higher elevation,
offering an amazing top-down perspective.
Now, I love a great view, but...
truth be told, my mind was already set on
the delicious snacks I'd spotted on the way in, and my tummy was rumbling!
So, I coolly decided to skip the upper observation deck
and went straight for an eagerly awaited snack break.
Sausage & Pineapple: Treats You'll Regret Missing!

Along the scenic walking path leading to Shifen Waterfall,
you'll find charming little stalls selling fresh fruits and delicious sausages.
Our guide, bless her heart, pointed out a few excellent spots
for delicious treats as we walked.

I headed straight for one of the places she'd marked,
and picked up some wild boar sausage, fresh Taiwanese fruit,
and a wonderfully cold beer.

I heard that sausages taste amazing with garlic, so I was eagerly looking for some,
only to find out it's a 'peel-it-yourself' system here!!
Feeling a tad disappointed, I attempted to peel the garlic myself,
but the cloves were so tiny it was incredibly fiddly.
I gave up after just a few 😭

The sausage was perfectly crispy on the outside,
with an explosion of juicy flavor on the inside,
offering a delightful balance of savory and subtle sweetness.
It was absolutely fantastic as a beer snack!
Paired with raw garlic, it completely cut through any richness, making me understand why everyone raves about this combination.

While it might vary by season,
you absolutely *must* try the pineapple.
It was the sweetest and most delicious pineapple
I've ever tasted!
The sugar content was so high that from the very first bite,
everyone in my group was amazed by its deliciousness.

Perhaps because mango season was slightly past,
its sweetness was subtle, and
since the pineapple we had earlier was so incredibly delicious,
the mango felt relatively ordinary.
Settling at an outdoor table,
gazing at the lush green scenery,
and enjoying the perfect combination of sausage, fruit, and beer –
it was truly a healing and joyful time.
