While planning my trip to San Diego,
I spent a ton of time searching for the perfect place to stay.
Instead of just a place to crash,
I really wanted somewhere where I could fully unwind
and enjoy a relaxing staycation vibe right until the very end of my trip.
That’s when I came across and booked
the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.
It got amazing reviews for being close to the airport
and having a gorgeous harbor view.
Plus, the price was surprisingly reasonable,
so I locked in a two-night stay.

Since it's part of the Marriott family,
Marriott Bonvoy members can enjoy perks
like room upgrades or late checkouts,
depending on their membership tier.
Hotel rates can vary wildly depending on the season and dates,
so make sure to compare prices once you have your travel dates set.
Keep in mind that this hotel charges a separate resort fee,
so definitely double-check whether it's included
in your total at final checkout!

Trip.com actually turned out to be the cheapest!

Which Room Type Should You Book?
Before booking, I was actually a bit confused
because there were so many more room types than I expected.
Here is a quick and simple breakdown to help you choose.
① Marina Tower Renovated Room
(Highly Recommended ★★★★★)
This is actually the exact room type I stayed in.
It was recently remodeled, so the vibe
was super bright, fresh, and clean!
It also has a balcony, which was perfect
for relaxing and soaking in those harbor vibes.
② Marina View Room
The room layout is similar,
but it comes with an upgraded "view."
If you want a view of the marina and yachts
right from your room, this is the one to go for.
If views are high on your priority list,
paying a little extra for this option
is totally worth it.
③ Bay Tower Room
The Bay Tower features more classic-style rooms,
with select rooms offering stunning views of San Diego Bay
and toward Coronado.
However, if you prefer a modern, newly renovated room,
you'll probably be happier
with the Marina Tower options.
④ Suites
If you're traveling with family or celebrating a special occasion,
a suite is a fantastic choice.
With separate living and dining areas, plus spacious balconies,
they are absolutely perfect for longer stays or a luxurious staycation.
Which room do I recommend?
I stayed for 2 nights in a Renovated, Guest Room, 1 King,
Marina Tower, Balcony room,
and I absolutely loved it!
The room was beautifully renovated and super clean,
and the harbor view from the balcony was absolutely gorgeous.
If you're planning a staycation in San Diego,
I highly recommend booking a renovated room
in the Marina Tower.
Impeccable room condition

The room I booked was
one of the renovated rooms in the Marina Tower.
I had heard some reviews saying it’s an older hotel,
so I was slightly worried at first.
But as soon as I walked in,
it was so much cleaner and brighter than I expected!
There was a cozy two-seater sofa and a small table,
perfect for enjoying a quick snack or a morning coffee.
The room felt spacious and airy,
making it the perfect spot to unwind and relax.
The bathroom was also completely remodeled
and felt incredibly fresh and clean.
It has a fixed rain shower head,
which might be a tiny bit inconvenient if you prefer a handheld one.
The absolute best part of this hotel
has to be the harbor view!
Personally,
the most memorable part of my stay here
was definitely the view outside the window—even more than the room itself!
During the day, you can see the peaceful marina dotted with yachts,
and as evening falls, the vibe completely transforms
into a breathtaking night view.
Just sitting on the balcony for a few minutes
instantly made me feel like I was truly on vacation.
The daytime view is gorgeous, but for me,
the nighttime atmosphere was absolutely unforgettable.
Pure healing with just a stroll:
The Harbor Promenade
Right in front of the hotel,
there’s a beautiful harbor promenade waiting to be explored.
It was perfect for a leisurely morning or evening walk.
I couldn't fit it into my schedule this time,
but next time, I’m definitely renting a bike to ride along the path!
The hotel actually offers
a bike rental service for guests!
An impressive array of amenities to enjoy
They have two swimming pools on-site,
and since one of them is adults-only,
I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing escape.
There's a bar right by the pool,
making it the perfect spot to take a dip, grab a refreshing drink,
and just lose track of time in pure relaxation.
Also, between the hotel and the harbor,
there's a cozy fire pit area
where they host s'mores events
so you can roast marshmallows!
It got a bit chilly in the evening,
but warming up by the fire and just relaxing
made the mood and atmosphere absolutely perfect.
There's also a fitness center,
so if you like keeping up with your workout routine,
be sure to check it out!
Make Sure to Book the Free Activities!
A lot of people actually miss out on this,
but the hotel runs various programs and activities
just for staying guests.
Daily morning yoga classes Bicycle rentals Free 1-hour paddleboard rentals and more are available for you to enjoy. |
However, I highly recommend booking
the yoga class and paddleboarding in advance.
I ended up doing both the morning yoga and the paddleboarding!
This is what a true staycation is all about.
It made the resort fee feel 100% worth it.
Doing yoga with a view like this
is the definition of pure healing.
I couldn't take any pictures during paddleboarding
because I forgot to bring a waterproof phone pouch T_T
But paddleboarding is a must-try!!!
You get to paddleboard right between all these yachts.
It is incredibly scenic and romantic. Highly recommended!
I ran out of time and couldn't ride the bikes,
but next time, I definitely want to grab a bicycle
and ride all the way around the harbor.

Breakfast at RUMOROSA
They do have a breakfast buffet,
but by the time I finished yoga, the buffet hours were already over.
I had to pay for breakfast separately anyway,
and I was more than willing to pay extra to try it, so it was a bit of a bummer.
So, I ended up having breakfast
at a Mexican restaurant on the 1st floor
called RUMOROSA.
Well, to be honest, it wasn't really anything spectacular.
Pretty average.
I wanted to fully embrace the staycation vibe and stay in the hotel
to grab a bite, but in hindsight,
I probably should have gone over to Little Italy for breakfast haha.
Depending on your Marriott membership tier or your booking package,
breakfast might be included,
so it's a good idea to check that when you book!

Here's What You Need to Know About Parking
Hotel parking was $55 a day.
Once you park, you can use your room key
to come and go as you please,
and the total charge is billed directly to your room at checkout.
But on the day I checked out,
I noticed there was a separate public parking lot
right across the street!!!
If you don't have a ton of heavy luggage,
using the lot across the street is a great way
to save some serious cash.
It was only $20 a day.
I could have saved like $70... T_T
However, parking rates can change depending on the season,
so I recommend double-checking the rates on-site
before you park!

A few things that were a bit disappointing
Since the hotel is right next to the airport,
you can hear planes taking off and landing.
It didn't really bother me—in fact,
it actually added to that exciting travel buzz!
But if you are sensitive to noise, it's definitely something to keep in mind.
Also, while the Wi-Fi connected without any issues,
the speed wasn't exactly blazing fast.
It was perfectly fine for messaging and quick searches,
but streaming videos or uploading large files
felt a little sluggish.

If you’re looking to unwind and soak in gorgeous harbor views
during your San Diego getaway,
I think you will be incredibly satisfied with this hotel.
With its newly renovated rooms, stunning harbor views,
fantastic free activities, and even an adult-only pool,
it’s so much more than just a place to crash—
it’s the ultimate destination for a relaxing "staycation."
Next time I'm back in San Diego,
I'll definitely reserve one of those free bikes I missed out on
and enjoy an even more laid-back ride around the bay!!!

On-site hotel parking is $55 per day, and you can freely enter and exit using your room key. If you want to save money, you can use the private parking lot across from the hotel (851 Harbor Island Dr) for $20 per day.

The newly renovated and comfortable rooms are located in the Marina Tower. These rooms feature balconies, making them perfect for relaxing while enjoying the harbor view.
Due to its location right next to the airport, the sound of airplanes taking off and landing can be heard in the rooms. If you are sensitive to noise, it is highly recommended to take this into consideration before booking your stay.
