A city where past and future coexist
Shanghai
Shanghai
Hello everyone! I'm Ciel, your travel influencer.
In my last post, we took a brief look at China,
but today, I'm excited to dive deeper into
Shanghai, China, a city I recently explored with my youngest.
In today's post,
I'll be sharing the must-visit spots,
best eateries, accommodations, and fun activities I personally experienced in Shanghai.

🇨🇳 What kind of city is Shanghai? |
Shanghai is China's largest economic hub, an international metropolis where tradition and modernity coexist. Located in eastern China, at the mouth of the Yangtze River, some of its iconic attractions include The Bund, with its European-style buildings and beautiful Huangpu River night views; Lujiazui, home to super-tall skyscrapers like the Shanghai Tower; and Nanxiang Old Street, the birthplace of xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). Additionally, Shanghai Disney Resort, massive shopping malls, and charming cafes make it one of China's most popular cities to visit. |

✈️Shanghai Flights
Shanghai Flight Prices | Typically range from ~$173-~$207. I personally flew with Eastar Jet for around ~$173. |
Compare Flights | |
I used to use Skyscanner a lot, but these days, I tend to compare and purchase flights on Trip.com or
MyRealTrip more often,
so I'm sharing links to these two sites.

Flight Duration | Approx. 2 hours | Language | Chinese |
Time Difference | 1 hour behind e.g., If it's 3:00 PM in Korea, it's 2:00 PM in China.
Recommended Travel Season | April-May, October-November
Weather | Spring🌸 (March-May) - Warm but with significant temperature swings, so light layers are recommended. Summer☀️ (June-September) - Hot and very humid. Autumn🍂 (October-November) - The best season for travel, with low humidity and many clear days. Winter❄️ (December-February) - Less cold than Korea, but humid, so a puffer jacket or coat is needed.
☀️My Personal Experience with January & February Weather | I tend to get cold easily, but Shanghai in January and February wasn't as cold as I expected.
Power Outlets | China uses 220V 50Hz, while Korea uses 220V 60Hz. You might think you don't need a multi-adapter, but because China uses a mix of Type A, Type I, and Type C outlets, I highly recommend bringing a universal travel adapter. I used my multi-adapter constantly throughout my trip. |

My Personally Visited and Recommended Shanghai Tourist Attractions
The Bund

Why?
The night view is as beautiful as Budapest, Hungary,
I honestly thought my trip to Shanghai would be only second to Hong Kong on my 'least favorite overseas trips' list,
but The Bund single-handedly pulled Shanghai up in my rankings!
Yu Garden

Why?
A place where tradition breathes within a modern city,
and where you can get a taste of the influencer (Wanghong) experience.
Shanghai Disney Resort

Why?
Asia's Newest Disneyland
Tianzifang

Why?
A fantastic spot for shopping!
Wukang Mansion

Why?
Honestly, there's not much to do here besides taking photos with the mansion itself,
so it's a bit tricky to wholeheartedly recommend,
but since everyone goes there, if you skip it,
you might not feel like you've truly experienced Shanghai,
so I'm recommending it as a must-visit place... (maybe?)
Unique Experiences in Shanghai I Tried & Loved
Wanghong

Why?
You can transform into a character from a Chinese historical drama,

Round-trip flights to Shanghai typically range from ~$173 to ~$242. There's an instance of someone flying with Eastar Jet for around ~$173. The flight time is approximately 2 hours.
The best times to visit Shanghai are April-May and October-November. Autumn (October-November) is especially considered the best season for travel due to low humidity and many clear days.
The 'Wanghong Experience' is an activity where you can experience hair, makeup, and even a photoshoot, just like a protagonist from a Chinese historical drama, all at a good price. It is introduced as an activity where you can create special memories through this experience at Yuyuan Garden.
Xianjiuyiqian is a highly recommended restaurant, known for being the most delicious in Shanghai despite long waiting times. Hongkuijia is introduced as a famous spot for garlic mala crayfish.
