During my last Shanghai trip,
one of the places I was most excited about
was The Stage Observation Deck,
located in the North Bund.
I've also taken a Huangpu River night cruise.
While the Shanghai night view from the boat
was wonderful in its own way,
if I had to choose just one spot for night views + sunset views,
this place definitely left a stronger impression on me.

The Stage in Shanghai is a must-visit because it's an outdoor observation deck
at an approximate height of 320m,
offering breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of Shanghai,
including the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, and even The Bund.

What's more, I loved being able to take photos with the Oriental Pearl Tower in the background.
Let me share my review of Shanghai Baiyulan The Stage Observation Deck,
starting with its operating hours, ticket prices, and how to make a reservation!
1. Must-Visit in Shanghai
The Stage Observation Deck Tickets
A top spot in Shanghai,
The Stage Baiyulan Observation Deck (白玉兰观景台)
is located in Shanghai's North Bund Baiyulan Plaza.

📍Shanghai The Stage Address
501 Dongdaming Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai
SMP Shanghai Baiyulan Plaza, LG1
(I'll leave it in the comments!)
It's closed on Mondays,
but open on mainland Chinese public holidays.

The Stage Observation Deck in Shanghai
stands at an approximate height of 320m above ground,
offering 360-degree views of the Shanghai cityscape!

one signature drink and

If you, like me, want to see both the sunset and night view,
you'll need to book the
Sunset & Night Ticket,
which is available for entry after 4:30 PM, rather than the Day Ticket.

I wanted to experience both the sunset and night views,
so I booked the Sunset Ticket!

It's pretty handy.
2. How to Get to The Stage and How to Book
I took a Didi taxi.
On Didi,
The Stage
白玉兰观景台 (Magnolia Observatory)
is easy to find by searching for.

If you're using the subway,
get off at International Cruise Terminal Station on Line 12
and take Exit 3.

Go down to LG1 of SMP Magnolia Plaza,
and you'll find signs making it easy to navigate.

Before my visit,
I purchased my admission ticket through Trip.com,
and there was no need to print or exchange anything!

After confirming my booking voucher,
I took the elevator up.
3. Review of Oriental Pearl View, Sunset, and Night View

Stepping out of the elevator
and onto the observatory,
it was much more open and expansive than I expected,
so I immediately started taking photos.
Looking towards Pudong,
the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower,
and Jin Mao Tower are all visible at a glance,

Looking the other way,
you can see the Huangpu River and The Bund.
The absolute best thing about The Stage observation deck here is
being able to see the Oriental Pearl TV Tower head-on.
If you go up to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower's observation deck,
you can't actually see the Oriental Pearl TV Tower itself, can you? It's a bit ironic! 😉

If you want to capture photos with that iconic
Shanghai skyline as your backdrop,
this is absolutely the perfect spot!
Since this place used to be a helicopter landing pad,
the views are incredibly clear and completely unobstructed!

I had so many things I wanted to do that day,
but I rearranged my schedule to align with sunset,
even giving up a few other plans to be here.
And I had absolutely no regrets!
I went with my mom,
and we were both absolutely mesmerized by the view.. ⊹ ෆ ♡
As the sun began to set, the sky
started to transform into a beautiful pink hue,
and seeing the Huangpu River from high up
along with the Shanghai cityscape, was just breathtakingly beautiful.

And once it gets completely dark,
the lights on the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and The Bund
start to twinkle on, one by one.
The atmosphere completely transforms from daytime,
so I stayed to enjoy the night view before heading down.

Because the sunset and night tickets include a complimentary drink,
I enjoyed a cocktail.
It was perfect for relaxing while enjoying the view,
and it looked great in photos too! 🩵

While the observatory isn't *enormous* in size,
there are surprisingly many spots for photos,
so an hour just flew by!
4. Handy Tips to Know Before You Visit
At The Stage, one of Shanghai's must-visit spots,
they also host short Peking Opera flash performances.

These take place at 5:15 PM, 6:15 PM, and 7:15 PM,
with each performance lasting a short approximately 3 minutes.
If you're going with a sunset ticket,
make sure to check if the times align with your visit!

Also, if you're visiting in winter,
you absolutely must dress warmly.
Even with the current weather,
it's a good idea to bring a light jacket!
I wanted to enjoy the night view for longer,
but since it's an outdoor high-rise, it gets pretty windy,
so I ended up heading down earlier than planned. ㅠㅠ
Please note that suitcases or large backpacks
cannot be brought inside the observatory!

Even with a coupon for the souvenir shop,
I didn't find anything particularly worth buying, so I passed!

While it's a bit pricey,
it's definitely worth visiting at least once:
Shanghai The Stage Observation Deck
You can capture an 'insta-worthy' shot with the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in the background,
and take in the panoramic views of Shanghai's Bund and the city skyline.
If you want to fully experience everything from Shanghai's stunning sunset to its glittering nightscape,
you won't regret choosing The Stage!
Try to go around sunset! 🩵
