1. Finding Tao Tao Ju in Xintiandi: Your Guide
Hong Mi Cheung Fun is often synonymous with Dian Du De, right? But locals know another gem: Tao Tao Ju. We decided to check it out ourselves to see if it lives up to the hype!
You can find its exact location on Gaode Maps (Amap) below:
It's perfectly situated for a meal after exploring the charming Xintiandi area!

Xintiandi often has various payment promotions, so remember to look for them when you're buying anything, from souvenirs to your meal. I didn't get to take advantage of them since I only bought a few items.

Operating Hours
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 4:30 PM - 9:30 PM
There's a 30-minute break between lunch and dinner service.
2. How to Order at Tao Tao Ju Xintiandi
Ordering inside the restaurant is primarily done via Alipay or WeChat Pay. I used WeChat Pay – simply scan the QR code below to access their menu. Don't forget to enter your table number, like '318' in my case, when prompted!

Even before you place your food order, you'll be served tea, as is customary. I believe they asked if I preferred Jasmine or Green tea. Due to a slight communication barrier, I ended up with Jasmine tea, which was delightful nonetheless.

Initially, I wondered why they served such hot tea with the meal, but after enjoying some of the richer, oilier dishes, I quickly understood. A warm cup of tea becomes incredibly refreshing and helps cleanse the palate. Now, I actually look forward to it!

With nothing else to add to my order, I proceeded to payment. The tea service cost 8 CNY. Although the WeChat in-app translator made some of the text a bit awkward, the Hong Mi Cheung Fun was 43 CNY.
3. The Star of the Show: Tao Tao Ju's Hong Mi Cheung Fun
First to arrive was the shrimp dim sum. I tend to stick to my favorites, so this was a must-try! The restaurant was quite busy, so the food didn't come out instantly, but the wait was perfectly reasonable.

With the first bite, you realize it's not overly complicated, yet it's incredibly delicious. It's that perfect balance of simple ingredients done right.

After a little more waiting, my highly anticipated Hong Mi Cheung Fun arrived! Visually, it looked quite similar to what you'd find at Dian Du De.

The accompanying sesame dressing was an absolute game-changer – a perfect match! I dipped once, and then immediately asked for a refill!

This Hong Mi Cheung Fun boasts a wonderfully crispy texture that truly sets it apart. Comparing it to Dian Du De, I honestly can't pick a clear winner – both are fantastic! My best advice? Go try them both for yourself! Make sure to add Tao Tao Ju's Hong Mi Cheung Fun to your Shanghai food itinerary!
