I recently went on a trip to Shanghai, China,
with the goal of enjoying a Michelin gourmet experience with my parents.
After visiting the Memorial Hall of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea,
a must-visit for many Koreans,
and exploring the nearby Xintiandi area on foot,
we headed to Siji Minfu,
a Michelin One-Star restaurant famous for its delicious food in Shanghai.
It's famous as a Shanghai restaurant where you can savor excellent
Peking duck and other Chinese dishes, offering great value
for both price and atmosphere.
I'll be sharing detailed waiting tips, menu insights,
and the delicious flavors of Siji Minfu, a place I visited
with my parents for a special meal during our trip to Shanghai's Xintiandi.
1. Location of Siji Minfu, Xintiandi, Shanghai
Siji Minfu, which we visited during our trip to Shanghai with my parents,
is loved by both tourists and locals. It's conveniently located
in the clean and modern shopping mall,
Xintiandi Hong Kong Plaza.

This Shanghai restaurant is famous for its excellent value Peking duck;
you can enjoy the taste of a Michelin One-Star half Peking duck
for around ~$21.
Seeing the recognition from various platforms right from the entrance,
I felt even more confident that visiting it was a great choice
for our overseas trip with my parents, and it made me even more excited.
You can also visit after making a reservation using the remote queuing feature
on the Dianping app. You can even register for the queue with a Korean phone number,
so I highly recommend making use of it!
If you join the on-site waiting list, they'll give you a paper queue ticket.
You can check the current waiting status via a QR code, so feel free to explore
the surroundings and come back when it's your turn.
As this was a trip for my parents and I wanted to avoid any hassle,
I arrived a bit early for opening on a weekday to register,
and we entered right when they opened.
The queue quickly grew long behind us. For your reference,
on weekend evenings, this Shanghai hotspot's waitlist can easily exceed 100 numbers,
so make sure to make a reservation!
2. Michelin Gourmet Trip Menu
Hong Kong Plaza itself is a modern and sophisticated shopping mall,
and all the restaurants there were impeccably clean.
While waiting at Sagyeminbok, you can freely enjoy
welcome tea, vegetables, and snacks.
After our meal, we enjoyed some refreshing
cucumbers and cherry tomatoes.
Overall, the tables were well-spaced,
and with its stylish lighting and warm wood-tone interior,
it created the perfect atmosphere to bring your parents.
The staff were friendly,
and the tableware was spotless, which I really appreciated.
While waiting, they gave us a menu listing the main dishes,
and once seated, they showed us a menu with photos.
Since there are so many options, it can be tough to choose,
so it might be a good idea to decide on some dishes beforehand.

When we got the bill later, I noticed that wet wipes were added
at 2 CNY per person.
At this Michelin one-star restaurant,
for a total of 787 CNY (approx. ~$117),
we had a generous meal for three people.
Since I was with my parents,
I let them order whatever they wished, without looking at the prices.
We even ordered the refillable oolong tea, which is known to be a bit pricey, so the bill turned out higher than expected.
If you stick to a half Peking duck and one or two sides,
you can still enjoy a great value meal for around ~$21 per person
at this atmospheric Michelin one-star restaurant in Shanghai Xintiandi. So keep that in mind!
We could also order a variety of alcoholic beverages.
Most restaurants in China allow you to bring your own alcohol and even provide glasses,
so you can buy your preferred drinks beforehand for better value and bring them along.
3. Shanghai Eateries: Excellent Food
We were told that a whole Peking duck is a good amount for 3-4 people,
but since my parents eat less and we wanted to try a variety of dishes,
we only ordered a half portion.
At first glance, a half portion might seem a bit small,
but especially the skin is quite oily, melting in your mouth as soon as you eat it.
While it's incredibly delicious, even as a big fan of Peking duck, I know it's not a dish you can eat a lot of, so the quantity was just right for us.
For two to three people, I recommend starting with a half duck
and trying other side dishes as well.
They beautifully plated the glossy skin over the lean meat,
and the bone portion was served on a separate plate.
Dipping the crispy skin in sugar was simply divine,
an absolutely blissful taste experience!
The staff even elegantly wrapped one pancake for each of us.
The sauce plate, filled with sugar, chunjang sauce, minced garlic, green onions, cucumber,
and fruits, felt like the perfect accompaniment, with about two servings being just right
for half a duck.
For the basic side dishes (banchan), we were served tangerines and
pickles, and a nut-based banchan. I heard the fruit selection changes with the season,
but these tangerines were so sweet and delicious, they really made me happy!
This particular side dish, made with fried tofu, mushrooms, and peanuts simmered in soy sauce,
was exceptionally delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
When it came to the Kongssak Muchim (pea shoot salad),
I instantly understood why everyone raves about it
the moment I took a bite!
Its crisp texture, accompanied by a subtle sourness and
a slightly spicy yet invigorating flavor, makes it an absolute must-order if you've got meat dishes coming –
it's perfect for cutting through any richness!
It truly was a highlight of our culinary
journey's menu.
The duck soup (Oritang) is optional, and
I admit I hesitated to order it after hearing mixed reviews. But my family, who happily eats anything, found its rich broth
so appealing that we thoroughly enjoyed it, almost like a nourishing health tonic!
While many travelers to Shanghai, China, might opt for Hongshao Rou
(braised pork belly), our personal preference leans towards Dongpo Rou.
The Dongpo Rou was pure artistry, melting in your mouth with every bite!
The accompanying cooked vegetables also harmonized perfectly with the sauce.
In fact, the seasoning was so incredibly delicious that we even ordered an extra bowl of rice
just to mix it all in and savor every last bit.
Finally, we had the Songsu Guoyu, also known as Squirrel Fish, which was on the pricier side.
In Shanghai, dishes where a whole fish is scored, deep-fried, and then drenched in a sauce similar to sweet and sour pork (Tangsuyuk) sauce
seem to be quite popular.
The fried exterior was perfectly crispy, the fish flesh incredibly tender,
and the skin delightfully chewy – it was far more delicious than I ever imagined!
My parents also absolutely raved about it, and it was gone in a flash.
4. Concluding Our Meal
During our trip to Shanghai, China, with my parents,
our visit to Fourseasons Minfu in Shanghai's Xintiandi was truly satisfying!
The staff were incredibly friendly, the ambiance was wonderful, and
the food was absolutely delicious. It felt like amazing value to
experience Michelin one-star quality at such a reasonable price.
Being able to savor such exquisite Chinese cuisine at a much better value
than back home, this Shanghai eatery is definitely worth a visit!
Siji Minfu is located on the 3rd floor of the North Tower of Xintiandi Hong Kong Plaza (HongKong PLAZA 香港广场北座), a clean shopping mall. When searching on Gaode Maps, you can find it by looking for '四季民福烤鸭店(香港广场店)'.
It's recommended to use the Dianping app for remote queuing with a Korean phone number, or to visit during opening hours on a weekday. On weekend evenings, the wait can exceed 100 numbers, so making a reservation in advance is advised.
A half Beijing Duck costs 159 yuan, and a whole duck costs 259 yuan. For two or three people, it's recommended to order a half duck first and complement it with other side dishes.
The Stir-fried Pea Shoots (Kongssak Muchim) are crispy, sour, and spicy, making them excellent for cutting through the richness of meat dishes. The Songshu Yu (Squirrel Fish) is a popular dish characterized by its crispy batter, tender flesh, and chewy skin.
My party ordered a half Beijing Duck, several other dishes, and oolong tea, totaling 787 yuan (approximately ~$117). A reasonably priced meal is definitely possible by ordering a half Beijing Duck with one or two side dishes, costing around ~$21 per person.
