Of all the places I absolutely wanted to visit
during my Shanghai trip,
the Pudong Art Museum was definitely one of them.
The problem was, my schedule that day was incredibly tight....
The Pudong Art Museum's last entry was at 8 PM,
but I arrived at 7:50 PM.
Closing time was 9 PM,
meaning I had barely an hour to explore.
On top of that, I had a massage booked for 9 PM,
so I had to leave in less than an hour.
Still, I thought since I'd come all the way to Shanghai,
I absolutely had to visit this place, so I went.
And even with such a short visit, I was glad I did!
Especially if you're planning to go to see the night view,
there's a night ticket available, which is cheaper than a full-day pass.
I've summarized my review along with ticket prices below.
Pudong Art Museum Night View Review

Since I was so short on time,
as soon as I entered, I quickly browsed the Giorgio Morandi exhibition
on the first floor.
While the exhibition itself was wonderful,
honestly, there was another, bigger reason
I went to the Pudong Art Museum that day.
And that was the Shanghai night view
as seen from the Pudong Art Museum!

The Pudong Art Museum is a fantastic spot
to see the Oriental Pearl Tower right next to you,
and also get a panoramic view of the Huangpu River
and the Bund on the opposite bank, all at once!
While Shanghai's night view is stunning up close,
seeing the entire panorama from such an open space
revealed a whole new charm.
What's more, perhaps because I visited late,
there weren't many people,
so I could enjoy the view more leisurely than I expected.

I captured this beautiful night view in photos
and stored it deep in my memory.
So, if your main goal, like mine,
is to see the Shanghai night view rather than the exhibitions,
I highly recommend visiting in the evening.
However, I don't recommend arriving just an hour before closing... haha.
Even if you're only going for the night view, give yourself a bit more time!

Tickets for the Pudong Art Museum
can be purchased on-site,
but when I visited,
foreign visitors were instructed to
purchase tickets directly at the ticket booth.
So, if your travel itinerary is already set,
it's much more convenient to book online in advance.
When entering the Pudong Art Museum,
there's also a bag check,
so if you're tight on time for your visit,
I recommend preparing your tickets beforehand!
What to See at the Pudong Art Museum

The Pudong Art Museum itself is quite large,
so seeing all the exhibitions in just one hour
is practically impossible...
So, I didn't get greedy,
briefly saw the exhibition on the 1st floor,
and then immediately headed to the 4th floor for the night view.

As of October 2026,
several exhibitions are currently running,
including the Giorgio Morandi exhibition,
le19M related exhibitions, and installation art.
Among the October exhibitions,
the le19M exhibition is particularly worth noting.
This exhibition showcases the artisan techniques of various workshops housed in le19M,
including Chanel's embroidery workshop, Lesage.
It would be a shame to miss this one...
If you're interested in fashion, make sure to check it out!

Once you've seen enough of the exhibitions,
it's great to head up to the 4th-floor rooftop for the night view,
and then also visit the glass walkways on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

There are also many photo spots everywhere,
making it perfect for taking pictures,
so you might lose track of time.
It's a real shame I had so little time...
If you want to properly explore all the exhibitions,
I recommend setting aside at least 2 to 3 hours.
If you go with limited time like I did,
you'll truly feel rushed and have to speed walk through everything...
Personally, I recommend visiting at least once,
especially since you can enjoy both the exhibitions and the night view at the same time.
If possible, I'd suggest going around sunset to see the exhibitions first,
and then staying to see the night view once it gets dark.
That way, you'll get the most out of your visit!
