Wrapping up my Shanghai trip and heading to Pudong Airport (PVG), I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer number of dining options available.
Even before clearing immigration, you can find places to grab Starbucks, Vietnamese pho, and dim sum.
But the real gems are in the duty-free zone, featuring establishments like Obscura by 唐香 and Yuzhilan (玉芝兰), both connected to acclaimed Michelin restaurants.
Let’s dive into the best restaurants at Pudong Airport, including options in the duty-free area, and share the dishes I tried along with their prices!
1. Dining Before Security at Shanghai Pudong Airport
Pudong Airport offers quite a few spots to grab a quick meal before you even go through security.
(Just so you know, I was flying out of Terminal 1.)
If you arrive early, it’s a great idea to grab a meal or coffee here before heading into the main duty-free area.

First up, there’s a **Starbucks**, which is always a reliable choice for a quick coffee.
The store itself had ample seating, making it a comfortable spot to relax after checking in.

There was also a cafe called FASCINO, which offered a selection of pastries, desserts, and sandwiches.
It’s a great option if you’re looking for something more substantial than just coffee, with plenty of baked goods and sandwiches for a light meal.

If you’re craving pho, FAT PHO is another excellent choice.
It’s a solid alternative if you want a warm, soupy dish at the airport.
Right next door, you'll find MANMAN, a Japanese restaurant specializing in hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice).

Overall, most Pudong Airport restaurants offer spacious tables and plenty of seating.
If you arrive early, you can enjoy a proper meal before going through security and heading to the duty-free area.
2. Duty-Free Dining at Pudong Airport: Obscura by 唐香

Once you’ve cleared immigration and entered the duty-free zone, you’ll discover even more exciting dining options.
Near Gate 16, you’ll find Obscura by 唐香 and Yuzhilan (玉芝兰).
The original Obscura restaurant in downtown Shanghai currently holds a prestigious Michelin 1-star rating.
It’s important to note that Obscura by 唐香 at Pudong Airport does not hold its own Michelin star. Instead, it offers a more casual, accessible version of the Michelin-starred Obscura brand, perfect for airport travelers!

The airport Obscura by 唐香 featured a good selection of Western-style dishes.
Truffle Cheese Pizza: ¥118
Bolognese Pasta: ¥78
Wagyu Cheeseburger with Fries: ¥108
They also offered set menus that included coffee, making it a decent option for a full meal at the airport.
Their coffee menu was also quite extensive!
3. Pudong Airport Restaurant: Yuzhilan (玉芝兰)

The place I chose for my meal was Yuzhilan (玉芝兰).
Yuzhilan is a Sichuan cuisine brand that originated in Chengdu, and its main branch in Chengdu currently holds a Michelin 2-star rating.
Similar to Obscura, the Pudong Airport location is not itself a Michelin 2-star restaurant. Instead, it’s best described as a casual airport brand carrying the esteemed name of the Michelin 2-star Yuzhilan (玉芝兰).
Having developed a love for crab roe noodles during my Shanghai trip, I simply couldn't pass by Yuzhilan when I saw them on the menu at the airport.😊😊

Yuzhilan (玉芝兰) offered a diverse menu, from beef noodles to mixed noodles, crab roe noodles, and various rice dishes.
Beef Noodle Set: ¥108
Crab Roe Mixed Noodles: ¥118
With pictures on the menu, ordering was straightforward even if you don't speak Chinese.

What impressed me most was how clean the restaurant was, and the atmosphere was surprisingly quiet for an airport eatery.
The seating was well-spaced, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy a leisurely meal before my flight.

Crab Roe Mixed Noodles: ¥118
The crab roe noodles arrived with the noodles and crab roe sauce served separately.
I started by adding a little sauce to the noodles, but ended up pouring almost all of it in and mixing it thoroughly.
The rich, savory flavor of the crab was intense, and the sauce clung perfectly to the noodles – it was absolutely delicious.

It reminded me of the crab roe noodles I had at Lailai Xiaolong in Nanjing East Road, Shanghai, but I felt Yuzhilan’s version was a bit more refined and elegant.
If you love dishes featuring crab meat or roe, I highly recommend this menu item first and foremost!👍🏻

Beef Noodle Set: ¥108
The beef noodle soup had a wonderfully clean broth.
It came with tender beef, a soft-boiled egg, bok choy, and a generous portion of noodles.
While the crab roe noodles were rich and decadent, the beef noodles offered a refreshing contrast, making them a great combination if you’re sharing.

I also tried the lamb skewer that came with the set.
Though not large, the meat was juicy, not dry, and well-seasoned.
It was perfect for snacking on between bites of noodles!
If you're looking for an authentic Shanghai meal experience at Pudong Airport, rather than just a quick bite, I highly recommend Yuzhilan (玉芝兰)!
Especially if you're a fan of crab roe noodles, it's definitely worth trying in the duty-free area of Pudong Airport.
By the way, when I traveled from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Nanjing East Road, I used an airport pickup service. You can find a detailed review of that experience below.
