Exploring Shanghai, China
The Beginning and The End
Pudong Airport
Pudong International Airport
Hello everyone! I'm travel influencer Ciel-!
Today, I'm excited to share my review of the
Shanghai Pudong International Airport, which was with me from the start to the finish of my Shanghai adventure.

What is Shanghai Pudong Airport?
Shanghai Pudong Airport is an international airport located in the Pudong area,
and it's one of Shanghai's most prominent international gateways.
Currently, it operates with T1 and T2 terminals,
serving both international and domestic flights.
So, if you're planning a trip to Shanghai,
you're likely to encounter this airport at some point.
What's more, both T1 and T2 of Pudong Airport are connected to Metro Line 2,
making it super convenient to travel to the airport from downtown Shanghai
or vice versa using public transportation.

🇨🇳Why I Recommend Pudong Airport for Your Shanghai Adventure
✔︎ It's a key international airport for Shanghai, handling a high volume of international travelers.
✔︎ From Pudong Airport, you can take the Maglev (magnetic levitation train) to get into downtown Shanghai.
✔︎ It's equipped with a variety of traveler-friendly facilities, including duty-free shops, food and beverage outlets, currency exchange, ATMs, and relaxation areas.

Stepping off the plane at Shanghai Pudong Airport, I was honestly surprised because at first glance,
it looked quite similar to Incheon Airport!

But if you look closely, you start seeing the red lanterns that instantly bring China to mind,
and with the huge Chinese flag proudly displayed,
it really hit me – 'Wow, I'm actually in China!'

There were also digital displays that clearly showed where to check in,
which is a relief because it can be quite stressful when you can't find them easily.
Thankfully, at Shanghai Pudong Airport, they were very easy to spot!

Beyond that, you'll find a store selling the White Rabbit candy,
which is a must-buy souvenir from Shanghai.
So, if you didn't get a chance to buy it during your trip,
you can conveniently pick it up at Pudong Airport.

There were also shops for simple souvenirs.
If you're heading home on a late-night or early-morning flight like I was...
I'd recommend grabbing your souvenirs here if the shops are open.
My Easter Jet flight was at 2:50 AM, so I arrived around 11 PM to 12 AM,
and even these shops were closed.
Most of the duty-free shops in the boarding area were also shut...🤣

And of course, when you're at the airport, you'll want to snap an iconic photo, right?
There's an 'I ❤️ Shanghai' sculpture that's perfect for photos.
The only tricky part is that sometimes people are resting nearby,
so I recommend taking your picture quickly when it's clear.
When I arrived, there were quite a few people sleeping around this spot.
But on my way home, it was completely empty, which was super lucky!

Just a heads-up: if you take an Easter Jet flight departing at 00:30 to Shanghai,
you'll arrive in Shanghai at 01:40. Upon arrival, I noticed that
not all exits were open;
only a few were accessible.
Just so you know, I heard there might be inspections if you leave and re-enter the airport.
Since it seemed like a hassle and I had some time until the hotel shuttle bus,
I decided to spend my time at 霸王茶姬 (Chaji), a must-try when in Shanghai, enjoying their Baekajeolhyeon drink!
⬇️My Review of 霸王茶姬 (Chaji) Baekajeolhyeon at Pudong Airport⬇️

When it was time for the shuttle bus, I stepped outside the airport and noticed...
...even in the early morning, it wasn't dark at all. It was surprisingly bright, so I didn't feel unsafe.

There were also plenty of luggage carts available for travelers with lots of bags,
so if you ever find yourself needing one,
you can easily grab one from here and be on your way!

The shuttle bus boarding area was also
well-marked, making it super easy to find.
Concourse Review

Honestly, I always believed our own Incheon Airport was the absolute best,
but seeing Pudong Airport, I actually thought, 'Wow, this place is pretty amazing too!'
It's designed with a kind of futuristic city vibe,
making the concourse surprisingly beautiful.

Since I arrived at the airport late at night,
most of the food courts and duty-free shops were already closed,
so I didn't get to properly explore the concourse.
Still, there are a few food courts, as you can see in the pictures.
However, if you arrive around midnight... assume you won't be able to grab a bite to eat.
I checked my boarding gate and by the time I came back, they were already closed!

I usually pick up a bottle of liquor when I travel, so I managed to buy one,
but when I tried to find souvenirs for my colleagues, all the souvenir shops were shut down... lol.
So, it ended up being a trip where I only bought one bottle of liquor and nothing else, haha! (Talk about a minimalist shopping spree?)

There was even a tax refund counter, but it was also closing its doors soon...
So, if you happen to arrive at the airport around midnight,
it's probably best to just give up on duty-free shopping entirely.

The directions for finding my boarding gate were excellent,
so navigating to my gate was a breeze!

While it might not have charging outlets at every seat like Incheon Airport,
the airport was fundamentally clean and tidy, which I really appreciated.

And if you look closely, you might even spot some massage chairs,
making it a perfect spot to relax and kill some time.

✔︎China Shanghai Travel: Pudong Airport Review
I was genuinely surprised by how similar it felt to Incheon Airport,
and I initially worried about using it so early in the morning, wondering if it might be unsafe.
But to my pleasant surprise, the airport felt grand, secure, and truly impressive.
