When planning our Shanghai trip with a friend, two things were non-negotiable: the room condition and the location.
Shanghai involves a lot of exploring, so instead of a hotel for a 'staycation,' we sought a comfortable and clean place conveniently located for sightseeing.
For this Shanghai adventure, we stayed in a **suite at the Opartment Hotel**. Here's a breakdown of the **rooms, breakfast, location, and overall pros and cons**.
Opartment Hotel Shanghai
Location

The Opartment Hotel is just a **5-minute walk from People's Square Station on Metro Line 10**.
It's right across from **People's Square**, a major park, and only a 10-minute Didi taxi ride to **Yuyuan Garden**. Plus, **First Department Store** is within walking distance!
Its central location made it incredibly convenient for exploring various parts of Shanghai's city center. The neighborhood itself was spotless and easy to navigate on foot, making our **first trip to China as two women** wonderfully pleasant.

Suite Room

We opted for a **suite room**.
Cramped spaces make it tough to unpack luggage, but the suite's **kitchen + living room + bedroom layout** offered ample space, which we loved.

Upon check-in, we found a **welcome gift** on the kitchen island table!
We even got to try the famous **White Rabbit candy** 😉

Especially when traveling in China, it's common to order snacks or late-night meals via delivery. Having a **separate kitchen and living room area** was incredibly convenient for this.
The kitchen is equipped with an **induction stovetop, sink, basic dishes, and even a washing machine**!

What particularly impressed us was the overall ambiance of the room. The hotel is **new, so the rooms were exceptionally clean**.

When choosing hotels in China, I always meticulously check reviews because some, even if they look decent, can have a peculiar **cigarette smell**⁉️
Since Opartment Hotel is a newly renovated property, there was virtually none of that distinctive old hotel smell, and everything was maintained impeccably.
For those concerned about the typical older rooms or cigarette odors in Chinese hotels, this being a newer establishment is a significant advantage!

The bathroom and amenities were also very clean.
The amenities provided were **Byredo**!

Breakfast & Free Coffee

They also offer a **breakfast service** for a simple start to your day.
It includes **fruit, pastries, and coffee**. You can pick it up yourself from the 1st-floor lobby, or order via WhatsApp for room delivery.
The pastries are from **Crave Bakery**, a popular spot on the first floor known for its delicious bread, and the selection varied slightly each day!
Another great perk was the **free coffee and tea** available in the lobby.
Opartment Hotel Shanghai
Pros

Here's a summary of the advantages we noticed during our stay:
First, the rooms are exceptionally clean, being a newer hotel.
If you're worried about the atmosphere or smells of older Chinese hotels, you'll likely love this aspect.
Second, the suite rooms are quite reasonably priced.
For a suite with a kitchen, living room, and bedroom, it was around ~$227 per night!
Third, it's ideally located for city sightseeing.
If your trip is more about exploring Shanghai than lounging at the hotel, location is key, and this hotel delivered.
Fourth, they offer a simple breakfast and delicious free coffee.
While not a full hotel buffet, it was perfect for a quick bite before heading out.
Fifth, it's well-suited for trips with friends or couples.
The clean rooms and overall pristine atmosphere made it an excellent choice for traveling with friends or a partner.
Opartment Hotel Shanghai
Cons

Of course, there were a few minor downsides.
Opartment Hotel **lacks amenities like a swimming pool or fitness center**.
So, if spending time swimming or working out at the hotel is important to you, this might be a drawback.

However, for our itinerary focused on **exploring Shanghai's city center**, it wasn't a major inconvenience.
We spent our days sightseeing, enjoying delicious food, and shopping, returning to the hotel only in the evenings, so we barely had time to use a pool anyway.

Therefore, if you prioritize **room condition and location over extensive amenities**, I highly recommend this hotel.
Conversely, if having a hotel pool during your trip is a must, you might want to look into other options.
In conclusion,
The **Opartment Hotel Shanghai** was an excellent choice for our trip, especially if you're planning to **explore the city center and are looking for a clean, modern hotel**.
It comes with a strong recommendation, especially for **friends or couples visiting Shanghai for the first time**!
As it was my **first trip to China**, I initially had some anxieties, but the moment we dropped our bags at the hotel, all worries melted away, and we had a fantastic 3-night, 4-day stay!
Prices vary by season, but **Hotels.com and Agoda** often offer the best rates, so keep that in mind!
