Planning a trip to Shanghai? You absolutely can't leave without diving into the city's incredible dessert scene! While Loxihe's famous butter mochi and Lily Bakery's egg tarts are always popular, Loxihe has just dropped a fantastic new treat for 2026.
I recently ordered their latest creation, and it's a game-changer!

I ordered the Salted Cream Puffs (my unofficial English name for them!) to take with me on my departure day. A full pack costs around ~$5, while the smaller, low-sugar version is about ~$2!
Honestly, with how rich and creamy the cheese filling is, I couldn't tell much difference between the regular and low-sugar options. Given the price and portion, I highly recommend going for the low-sugar version!

These also came via delivery! If you look at the bag, you can see the marshmallow stretching – this is why you absolutely HAVE to try these fresh in person!
I bought a set of six for ~$8, with flavors like Earl Grey, original, and chocolate. I was a bit sad that the marshmallow didn't stretch much because they had cooled during delivery.
But even so, the satisfying crispiness won me over! Don't forget to add these marshmallow egg rolls to your Shanghai food list!
3. BAO's Pastry (鲍师傅) Egg Tarts
Next, let's talk about BAO's Pastry egg tarts. In my opinion, these are even better than the popular Lily Bakery egg tarts!
And yes, you guessed it – I got these delivered too! Seriously, there's almost nothing you can't get delivered in China. Remember, you can even pre-order items to pick up or have delivered upon your arrival!
Egg tarts pair perfectly with milk tea, so I ordered some tea to go with them. These egg tarts aren't overly sweet, and they have a wonderful flaky crust. If you prefer super sweet egg tarts, these might not be for you, but I loved them for their rich, authentic egg flavor.
At about ~$2 for two, the price is incredibly reasonable. They're not expensive, so if you spot a BAO's Pastry during your travels, grab some to try! Or, order them alongside Lily Bakery's tarts and do a delicious taste test comparison.
It truly feels like there's a new dessert popping up in Shanghai every time I visit! While not every new treat is a winner, I've curated a list of the ones that truly stood out.
