Looking for a Budget-Friendly Shanghai Hotel in a Great Location?
If you're planning your first trip to **Shanghai**,
you might be wondering where the best area to stay is,
and which hotels are actually worth your money.
As someone who used to live in Shanghai, I can tell you that
the absolute best location for travelers is
East Nanjing Road, which is right next to 'The Bund.'

However, hotels in this area can be incredibly expensive,
or if they're cheap, the quality can be pretty disappointing.
It's surprisingly hard to find that perfect sweet spot of price and quality.
So today, I'm sharing my review of a budget-friendly gem I carefully picked out:
Jinjiang Metropolo Classic Shanghai Nanjing Road!
Here is my honest stay review!
Why I Recommend Jinjiang Metropolo Classic Shanghai Nanjing Road

Jinjiang Metropolo Classic Shanghai Nanjing Road Hotel |
Check-in: From 14:00 Check-out: Until 12:00 Location: Heart of East Nanjing Road, 15-minute walk to The Bund Room Rate: From mid-~$90s (Weekend rates) Key Feature: Views of the Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Tower from the room |
Jinjiang Metropolo Classic Shanghai Nanjing Road
(referred to as Jinjiang Metropolo Hotel from here on)
was the hotel I chose for the first night of our 4-person family trip
in early June.
It is tucked away right in an alley off the main street of East Nanjing Road,
and is only about 900 meters away from The Bund,
making it incredibly convenient to walk over and catch the night views.

In reality, the area right in front of the hotel is a bustling shopping district,
and it's lined with food alleys offering plenty of dining options,
so there are always people walking around, day and night.
This means you don't have to worry about safety at all!
Plus, not only is it close to the main strip,
but there are also two great lamb skewer spots, including Half A Drink,
just a 3-minute walk from the hotel.
It was absolutely perfect for grabbing a late-night bite.
But of course, the most important factor is the price, right?
Even for a weekend stay in mid-July,
it costs around ~$96 per night, which is super reasonable.
When I booked, Agoda offered the lowest price,
but checking again now, Trip.com is actually cheaper!
Prices can vary across platforms depending on your booking dates and room availability,
❗️ so I highly recommend comparing both platforms below before booking!
Based on: Sat, July 18–19 | Trip.com | Agoda |
Lowest Price | ~$98 | ~$103 |

Hotel Check-in and Lobby Facilities

Jinjiang Metropolo Hotel boasts a history
spanning over 100 years.
Because of this, even though it was fully remodeled in 2017,
it leans more into a classic, authentic Chinese aesthetic
rather than a generic modern hotel design.
Personally, I loved the charming, local vibe of it!

The hotel lobby is quite spacious, making it super easy to store your luggage
freely before checking in or after checking out.
The staff speaks basic English, so
checking in was smooth and hassle-free.

Even though the hotel has been remodeled, you can still catch a glimpse
of its classic charm in the elevator. It was so neat to see
the analog-style floor indicator ticking away above the door!

Also, in the lobby area of each floor, you can freely grab
bottled water whenever you need it.
It was great to just self-serve without having to ask the front desk
every time—so convenient and stress-free!
Our Stay in the Fashionable Twin Room

We booked the Fashionable Twin Room
and were assigned Room 8812 on the 8th floor.

The second we opened the door,
our first thought was, "Wow, this place is huge!"
The entire room was sparkling clean and
felt like a spacious two-room suite—incredibly roomy for a hotel.
The layout featured the bedroom tucked further inside,
with the toilet and shower area right by the entrance.

The bedroom area featured two single beds,
and the open space was massive—easily enough room
to lay out three large suitcases at once.
It felt so incredibly roomy and comfortable.
The beds were wonderfully cozy and plush;
the moment we laid down, all our travel fatigue just melted away.

As for other room amenities, all the essentials were provided:
a small table and chair, a luggage rack, slippers, a wardrobe,
complimentary water, and tea bags.

The bathroom layout split the sink, toilet, and shower area into separate spaces,
and all the toiletries were neatly arranged right by the sink.

They provided a total of six towels, including hand towels, bath towels, and face towels,
along with handy essentials like toothpaste, cotton swabs, and a hairdryer.

On top of that, all your shower essentials—body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion—
were fully provided, so there was absolutely no need to pack your own!
They were all provided as travel kits, which was super convenient!
One thing you should keep in mind, though...
is that disposable toothbrushes are not provided.
So, make sure to pack your own toothbrush before you leave!

The toilet and shower stall were located right across from the sink,
separated into individual spaces as you can see in the photos.
While the shower stall was pretty standard for a hotel,
the toilet area had a major, unexpected plus.
It actually had an electronic bidet installed!
In China, even luxury hotels rarely have bidets installed,
so this felt like an incredibly huge perk for me.
(It was actually my first time seeing a bidet in a Chinese hotel!)

Lastly, the night view from the hotel was absolutely incredible.
Looking through the small window in my room, I could see the city skyline...
...and my room had a view of Shanghai's three iconic towers!
Honestly, I had zero expectations for the view, so
it felt like an unexpected gift.
Just keep in mind that views can vary from room to room,
and some rooms even offer a view of the Oriental Pearl Tower!
I highly recommend adding a view preference in your special requests when booking!
