2. The Reality of Waiting & WeChat QR Remote Queuing Pro Tips

I received waiting ticket number 156 at 4:40 PM on a Saturday and finally entered at 11:56 PM.

That's right, a staggering 8-hour wait!

Of course, I had set up remote queuing via WeChat,

so I explored Nanjing East Road and People's Square, then headed over when it was my turn.

The waiting area was thoughtfully equipped with large fans for cooling,

chairs, ice water, ice cream, and even candy,

truly reflecting their excellent service manner in caring for waiting guests.

I highly recommend using WeChat to join the remote queue,

then make your way to the restaurant

when there are about 30 teams ahead of you.

Don't try to fit Hunjiu Yiqian into your travel itinerary;

instead, plan your travel itinerary around Hunjiu Yiqian's waiting time!

The interior is much more spacious than you might imagine,

but it's designed in a way that traps the charcoal heat,

making it seriously, incredibly hot.

As soon as you enter, they hand you a cooling patch

to stick on your forehead for instant relief,

and believe me, it's so hot inside you'll slap it on right away!

3. An Honest Review of Hunjiu Yiqian's Menu Items

Lamb Skewers (Half Portion/Full Portion)

Even for me, a first-timer trying lamb, there was absolutely no gamey smell,

and I couldn't detect any strong spice flavor.

It felt perfectly tailored to be approachable, so I highly recommend it

for anyone new to lamb.

The staff grilled everything for us, which was incredibly convenient!

You even get a dedicated server!

Egg Fried Rice & Bacon-Wrapped Chives

The Egg Fried Rice is only 16 RMB

and it's perfectly fluffy, making it a hit even with picky eaters.

You absolutely MUST order it!

While the pork belly skewers were good, the 'Bacon-Wrapped Chives'

really cut through any richness and were significantly more delicious.

Cold Noodles & Enoki Mushroom Skewers

The cold noodles aren't the refreshing Korean-style *dongchimi* or broth flavor you might expect.

Instead, they have a very sour taste, almost like a whole bottle of vinegar was poured in,

and they contain apples, making them quite polarizing.

If you're ordering them expecting Korean-style cold noodles, be aware they're quite different..!

The enoki mushrooms were also heavily seasoned with mala spice and other strong flavors,

making them a challenge for those not accustomed to intense spices.

4. Shanghai Hunjiu Yiqian: The Grand Summary

Honestly, from my perspective, waiting a full 8 hours on-site

just for the 'lamb skewer taste' alone would be a bit... haha.
