Top 6 Shanghai Travel Spots You Can't Miss
If there’s one destination that’s absolutely booming in popularity among travelers right now, it has to be Shanghai.
With so much hype, there’s no shortage of information out there on where to go. But that also means you might find yourself wondering, "Where on earth do I start?"
To help you plan, today I’ve put together a curated list of six incredible spots in Shanghai that are absolutely perfect for first-timers!
Top 1. The Bund
📍 Our first must-visit stop is The Bund.

The Bund is Shanghai’s most iconic spot for night views, offering breathtaking vistas on both sides of the river.
On the right, you can admire a futuristic, high-tech skyline crafted by the Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Tower. On the left, grand European-style historic buildings are beautifully illuminated, allowing you to enjoy two completely different vibes in one spot.

It’s the ultimate place to snap your iconic Shanghai photos, so I highly recommend visiting on your very first night! Just keep in mind that the lights turn off at 10 PM (22:00), so plan accordingly.
Top 2. North Bund
📍 Our second stop is the North Bund.

While the North Bund is a bit less famous than the main Bund, you can capture equally stunning photos here—with a fraction of the crowds!
It's a fantastic spot to take photos with the massive skyscrapers, including the Oriental Pearl Tower, lighting up the background. The best part? The towers that looked so small and distant from the main Bund appear much larger and more imposing from here!

With the detailed city lights and unique architectural designs up close, it almost feels like you've stepped right into a sci-fi, futuristic city.
Just like the main Bund, the lights go out at 10 PM, so make sure to check out both spots during your evening stroll!
Top 3. East Nanjing Road
📍 Our third stop is East Nanjing Road.

East Nanjing Road (Nanjing Donglu) is Shanghai's premier shopping pedestrian street, stretching about 1.5 miles (2.5 km) from People's Square all the way to The Bund.

Think of it as the Times Square of Shanghai! It’s a bustling hub where locals and tourists alike gather to shop, dine, and experience the city's vibrant energy.
Since you’ll inevitably walk through here multiple times during your trip, I highly recommend booking your hotel near East Nanjing Road for the ultimate convenience!
Top 4. Oriental Pearl Tower
📍 Our fourth stop is the Oriental Pearl Tower.

The Oriental Pearl Tower is Shanghai's most iconic landmark. It’s the very building that gives the skyline its exotic, futuristic charm when viewed from the Bund or North Bund.
To get the most dramatic, close-up look at this architectural giant, you’ll want to cross over the river to the Pudong side, right opposite the Bund.

If you head up to the pedestrian overpass right in front of the Oriental Pearl Tower at night,
you can snap the perfect shot with the tower towering beautifully in the background.
If your main goal in Shanghai is capturing stunning photos,
I highly recommend checking this spot out.
Plus, since you can actually go up to the Oriental Pearl Tower's observation deck,
heading to the top to soak in the breathtaking Shanghai nightscape
is another absolute must-do.

Top 5. Wuzhen Water Town
📍 Our fifth destination is the historic Wuzhen Water Town.
Located about a two-hour drive from downtown Shanghai, this water town
is the perfect destination for travelers who want to explore
a scenic spot just outside the main city.
Wuzhen is divided into two distinct areas: Dongzha (East Scenic Zone) and Xizha (West Scenic Zone).

Dongzha (East Zone) is a living village where actual residents live, allowing
you to experience the ultimate authentic local lifestyle in China.
Along the way, you can explore unique spots like the Ancient Bed Museum
or even experience a ride on a traditional wooden boat!

Xizha (West Zone), on the other hand, has been fully developed for travelers.
It's filled with exciting shops, great restaurants, and cozy bars,
where you can enjoy a beautifully soft, peaceful night view that’s completely different from the busy city center!

If you want to experience a classic local vibe different from downtown Shanghai,
or if you've always wanted to see a traditional Chinese water town,
we highly recommend making this a highlight of Day 2 or Day 3 of your itinerary!
Top 6. Shanghai Disneyland
📍 Our sixth and final stop is the magical Shanghai Disneyland.

As Shanghai's most iconic theme park,
it's globally famous for being the only park with a dedicated Zootopia-themed land.

With the breathtaking Enchanted Storybook Castle welcoming you at the entrance,
and nearly 10 unique zones themed after classic Disney movies,
it's the absolute perfect place to let your inner child run wild.

To top it all off, about 30 minutes before the park closes, you can enjoy
a spectacular night show and firework display right over the castle!
Since you'll want to dedicate at least a solid half-day (if not a full day) here,
and because crowds can get massive over the weekend,
planning your visit on a weekday during your trip
is definitely the best way to enjoy it!
