Fried Radish Cake (萝卜丝饼)
Zhilala Deep-Fried Stall (滋啦啦油煎铺—乌镇萝卜丝饼)

One of Wuzhen's signature traditional street foods, the Fried Radish Cake!
It's made of shredded radish mixed with batter and deep-fried to a crisp,
giving it a tasty vegetable fritter vibe. At just 3 Yuan apiece,
it's extremely affordable and well worth trying.
In addition to the radish cake, they also sell Pork Spring Rolls (5 Yuan).

Even though I visited quite late
and they were just about to close, there was still a decent queue.
And sure enough, they sold out and closed right after I got mine.

Since there's almost always a wait,
you get to enjoy both the radish cake and the spring roll freshly made on the spot.
To my taste, rather than the radish cake,
I actually enjoyed the incredibly crispy spring roll much more!
Just a heads up, though—I think there might have been a bit of cilantro inside.
The radish cake was just okay.

Shaobing / Baked Flatbread (烤饼)
Qiao Li Qiao Shaobing Shop (桥里桥烧饼铺)

I noticed a crowd of locals lining up as I walked past,
so I had to join in and try this baked flatbread (Shaobing).
The price is 8 Yuan per piece!
Because the queue gets quite long,
there is a strict purchase limit of maximum 2 pieces per person.

It's a clay-oven-baked, hollow-style snack, free of strong spices,
featuring just a subtle, savory hint of seasoned minced meat inside.
Since it's always busy, you are guaranteed to get a piping hot, freshly baked bread.

I actually tried something similar near Hongdae in Seoul before because it was a hot spot for Chinese tourists,
and back then, I thought it was a bit too bland and wondered what the hype was about...
I guess it’s originally meant to be a pretty subtle, mild-tasting snack.

Iron-Pressed Scallion Pancake
Shejian Congbaohui (舌尖葱包烩)

Pressed flat with a real clothing iron,
this scallion pancake is a low-key favorite among travelers.

The light sweet bean sauce gives it a perfect sweet-and-savory kick,
while the green onions really bring it to life.
It's a great little snack to try without overthinking it!

Osmanthus Flower Cake
Xinshi Chagao (Wuzhen Branch / 新市茶糕)

They sell a variety of rice cakes, including savory ones filled with minced meat,
but the crowd-pleaser that anyone can easily enjoy is the
Osmanthus Flower Cake (桂花糕) for just 5 yuan (~$0.70) each.
It even has pine nuts inside!!!!
It seems like the Wuzhen and Hangzhou region
uses osmanthus flowers in their culinary creations quite a lot.
Even though it was my very first time trying it, the floral aroma was so incredibly fragrant and lovely
that I ended up buying osmanthus-infused Longjing tea in Hangzhou
and even grabbed an osmanthus-scented hand cream... haha.

My mom loved it so much
that she couldn't forget the taste and went hunting for it again in Suzhou during our next stop...

Brown Sugar Haitang Cake (海棠糕)
Wuzhen Jiangji Haitang Gao (乌镇姜记海棠糕)

The brown sugar Haitang cake is 6 yuan (~$0.85) each!
When I visited, it wasn't freshly made
so it was a bit cool, but the outer caramel coating was wonderfully crispy
and the sweet red bean paste inside made it super delicious.
I bet it would be absolutely heavenly if you get it piping hot right off the griddle.

Cafe Afternoon Tea Set
Corner Boutique Coffee House (转角精品咖啡屋)

Caught in a sudden hail shower.....
We decided to just duck into the nearest teahouse
that had the most delicious-looking sign outside,
which led us to this cafe called Corner Boutique Coffee House (转角精品咖啡屋).

Afternoon tea set for two is just 99 yuan (~$14)!
(Dianping voucher price)
On top of that, the window seats offer a killer view
where you can fully soak in the poetic, dreamy atmosphere of the Wuzhen water town.
If it weren't raining or hailing, the outdoor seating would have been amazing too.

Since this region is so famous for tea, they naturally serve **Longjing Tea** (Dragon Well Tea), and...
The accompanying traditional tea treats, fresh fruit, rice cakes, and nuts
were not only gorgeous to look at, but they tasted amazing too!
Even the giant jujube was so crunchy and sweet!!

The cakes on display looked so tempting, so we ordered some on the side.
The blueberry cheesecake was actually quite decent for China.
The tiramisu was just so-so.

On the Dianping (Dazhong Dianping) app,
you can get the 128 Yuan set menu for just 89 Yuan!
It looks like they also have a special autumn set
featuring seasonal ingredients right now!

It's not too crowded, making it the perfect peaceful spot to enjoy the view
and treat yourself to a beautiful and delicious afternoon tea set. Highly recommended!

Double Skin Milk Pudding (Shuangpinai)
Tangchao Desserts (Wuzhen Xizha Scenic Area Branch / 糖潮甜品)

This is a spot I wanted to visit because they sell 'Shuangpinai (双皮奶),'
one of my absolute favorite desserts, but I didn't make it, so I don't have my own photos.
It has a texture somewhere between pudding and yogurt, but without the sourness.
It's incredibly rich, milky, and silky smooth—
honestly, it's a dessert too good not to share...
If you're a pudding lover, even if you're not in Wuzhen,
make sure to try Shuangpinai whenever you spot it during your China travels!~~~

While they might not all be mind-blowingly life-changing,
here is my review of the cozy local snacks
you can easily enjoy during your Wuzhen getaway!
