I heard you absolutely *have* to try the towel cake when you visit Shanghai,

so I made sure to stop by the Holiland Tianzifang branch to give it a try!

I'll be sharing my review of the Shanghai towel cake, its location on Gaode Maps,

and even tips on carrying it onto your flight! :)

1. Holiland Tianzifang Branch

The Holiland Tianzifang branch is located on the 1st floor of a department store building,

and it wasn't particularly large.

The Shanghai Holiland towel cake is incredibly popular,

so my friend was worried they might be out of stock.

But even though we visited at 3 PM, there was plenty in stock!

However, seeing how fully stocked it was, it seemed like they had just replenished their cake inventory.

Perhaps they had just restocked!

At the Tianzifang Holiland, you'll find the original cheesecake,

Hello Kitty berry cheesecake,

and even a Sailor Moon collaboration cheesecake!

▶ Sailor Moon Collaboration Cheesecake: 45 RMB (approximately ~$6)

Beyond these, there's a wide variety of other baked goods,

including delicious egg tarts, so if you're a bread lover,

I highly recommend visiting Shanghai Holiland at least once!

The Tianzifang branch even has a free tasting station for some of their baked goods,

so you can try a few before you buy!

They also had a selection of mini cakes,

and their visuals were absolutely stunning!

I actually found myself more captivated by these mini cakes than the Holiland towel cake itself,

and ended up browsing for quite a while, haha!

The prices are affordable, but the quality is incredibly high,

so if you're celebrating a friend's birthday during your trip, buying one to enjoy at your accommodation

would be a fantastic idea.

2. Carry-on Allowance

They pack it in an insulated bag and a pink Holiland bag,

and they mentioned the insulated bag keeps it cool for about 3 hours.

Since it’s possible to carry it onto the airplane in this condition,

you can buy it on your last day of travel and bring it back to Korea.

My friend and I also bought a cheesecake on our last day in Shanghai

and ate it on the plane!

3. Towel Cake Review

Actually, when towel cakes were trending in Korea for a while,

I tried one at a cafe and was shocked by how incredibly sweet it was.

I decided to try one in Shanghai, hoping it might be a bit different.

For your information, while there isn't a dedicated space to eat inside the Holiland branch at Tianzifang,

you can enjoy your treats at the lounge area on the 2nd floor of the same building.

I ordered coffee from a nearby Starbucks and enjoyed it with the cake!

The shelf life is quite short, only about 3 days, so

if you plan to eat it the same day or take it back to Korea,

I recommend buying it on your last day of travel.

The Shanghai Holiland Oreo Towel Cake feels like it's rolled with a thin, chewy dough,

and it's packed with Oreo cream inside.

It looked like it might be firm, but

it was incredibly soft and tore easily even with a plastic fork.

Looking at reviews for the Oreo Towel Cake,

many people mention it tastes like Twosome Place's Icebox Cake.

I completely agree with that sentiment!

The Oreo cream and cake are sweet and soft,

so if you love desserts and want a proper sugar boost,

I definitely recommend checking out Holiland in Shanghai.

However, I'm not really a fan of overly sweet things,

so I think I would have struggled quite a bit without coffee.

I probably won't go out of my way to buy it on my next trip..🫠

My friend, who loves desserts, said it was delicious,

so on the last day of our trip, she visited the Holiland Zhengda Plaza branch in Shanghai

and even bought the cheese flavor and a brick chocolate.

I recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth, and
