Famous for its lamb skewers in Shanghai,
Shanghai Henjiuyi Qian!
If you're traveling to Shanghai, this is definitely a must-visit restaurant, don't you think?
I'll be sharing details on Shanghai Henjiuyi Qian branch locations,
menu recommendations, prices, and a review of the waiting experience.
1. Shanghai Henjiuyi Qian Locations

[ Shanghai Henjiuyi Qian Locations ]
Henjiuyi Qian has many branches in Shanghai, but
the three most accessible locations for travelers are listed below.
📌 Gaode Map Addresses (Chinese Characters)
· Nanjing Road No. 1 Department Store
很久以前羊肉串(南京路第一百货店)

I heard the Nanjing Road No. 1 Department Store branch has the longest
— and most brutal — wait times,
so I visited the Tianzifang Riyueguang Center branch instead!
I arrived around 7:30 PM,
and was seated after waiting for about an hour.
(I didn't make a WeChat reservation.)
The Riyueguang Center has Lilian Bakery, Holiland,
Luchenghe Butter Cakes, Hema Fresh, and more,
so it's a great idea to put your name down for a wait and then browse around.
There were also waiting chairs in front of the store,
and they were even handing out popcorn!
2. Henjiuyi Qian Menu & Prices

While waiting, you can scan a QR code to
check out the menu in advance,
so it's a good idea to decide what you want to order beforehand.
Almost everything I ordered was a hit,
and I'll tell you all about what I got at the bottom of this post!

First off, for Henjiuyi Qian's lamb skewers, the price was:
12 skewers for 69.8 Yuan
6 skewers for 34.9 Yuan.
You could order in increments of 6 skewers.

Pork Belly with Chives Skewers 5.5 Yuan
Pork Belly Skewers 4 Yuan
Beef Rib Skewers 6 Yuan
Beef Brisket with Enoki Mushrooms Skewers 7.7 Yuan
Corn Skewer 0.9 Yuan
Toasted Bread Skewer 6.9 Yuan

Egg Fried Rice 16 Yuan
Cold Noodles 18 Yuan
Cucumber Salad 24 Yuan
Besides skewers, they have so many other dishes too!
I recommend ordering a variety of dishes to share.
(For reference, when calculating Yuan to
Korean Won, multiplying by 200 gives you a similar price.
EX. 16 Yuan = ~$2)

Whether it's because the Ri Yue Guang Center branch is relatively new,
or if they always maintain such strict hygiene,
I was genuinely surprised by how incredibly clean the tables were!
They were spotless, not a trace of grease.
They even provided two cooling patches per person to stick on your forehead,
and hair ties were available for free.
I used one cooling patch at the restaurant,
and saved the other to use when I went to Disneyland later.👍🏻
3. Shanghai Lamb Skewers Review

First up, 12 lamb skewers were served to our table.
Once you order, the food comes out relatively quickly.
Honestly, I'm quite sensitive to the smell of lamb, so I don't usually enjoy lamb skewers.
But Hanjuyi Qian was so
famous that I just had to visit!
→ There was absolutely no gamey smell, and they were truly delicious!
They were so good, I probably wouldn't have even known it was lamb if no one told me.

For the skewers, the staff sets everything up for you,
and once they're fully grilled, they place them on the upper rack for you to enjoy.
That's when you dig in!
The staff members were also incredibly, incredibly kind.😊😊

Smashed Cucumber Salad 24 Yuan
Grilled Peeled Eggplant 19 Yuan
Smashed Cucumber Salad is always a reliable choice,
so I ordered one. The grilled eggplant looked delicious,
so I got that too, and both were truly amazing!
Especially the grilled eggplant; it came with glass noodles,
and wasn't too spicy – kind of like a gourmet cup noodle, if that makes sense.
If you love eggplant and glass noodles, you absolutely must try this.

Egg Fried Rice 16 Yuan
After eating so much meat, I was craving some carbs,
so I decided to try the egg fried rice.
It was a classic Chinese egg fried rice, and it hit the spot perfectly.
It was fluffy and perfectly stir-fried,
and tasted just right when eaten with the smashed cucumber salad.

Toasted Bread Skewers 6.9 Yuan
Many people recommended this dish, so I gave it a try.
It tastes exactly like toasted bread drizzled with condensed milk.
How could that ever be bad? It's simply irresistible!
I wanted to try the corn skewers too,
but they were sold out when I visited in the evening.
While most other items were still available,
if you want to enjoy a wider selection without anything being sold out,
I recommend going during lunchtime.

Cold Noodles 18 Yuan
I also ordered cold noodles, kind of like a refreshing dessert after the meal.
Honestly, everything I ordered was delicious, so by this point,
I had high hopes that the cold noodles would be fantastic too.
With a truly refreshing broth and chewy noodles,
it was a Chinese cold noodle dish with a delightful Korean twist
that anyone would love.

As I ate, I truly felt this was a top-tier restaurant in Shanghai,
and not wanting the experience to end, I ordered 6 more lamb skewers!

⭐ Lamb Skewers 18 pieces
Pork Belly Rolls with Chives 2 pieces
⭐ Grilled Peeled Eggplant
Coca-Cola Zero 2 bottles
Grilled Beef Ribs 2 pieces
Pork Belly 2 pieces
⭐ Toast Skewers
Grilled Shiitake Mushrooms
⭐ Spicy Cucumber Salad
⭐ 4 Beef Brisket and Enoki Mushroom Rolls
Egg Fried Rice
⭐ Naengmyeon (Cold Noodles)
This is what two of us ordered,
and the total came out to 240 yuan.
We ate until we were absolutely stuffed, and for approximately ~$36,
the prices were incredibly reasonable!
Everything was delicious, but I especially recommend the items marked with a ⭐,
so make sure you try them when you visit!
