1. Jianyisheng Head Spa in Shanghai: Booking Your Session

Before my trip to Shanghai, I kept seeing ads for head spas on Instagram. A scalp massage sounded intriguing, but I hesitated. The prices weren't exactly cheap, and I wondered if it was truly worth it. In the end, I'm so glad I decided to go for it!

As someone who values authentic experiences, I don't blindly trust everything I see on social media. However, after watching several captivating videos, I decided to book a session at Jianyisheng.

I initially reached out in English to inquire about a reservation, providing my name and preferred date. It was straightforward to book once I provided all the necessary details upfront.

Surprisingly, I received a message back in English, and then proceeded to pay the deposit. The booking deposit was ¥100, which I paid via Alipay.

The spa is located within a commercial building, similar to an office complex with various businesses. I had a moment of doubt, wondering if I was in the right place, but I found it without issue!

I made my reservation before flying out. The location is incredibly convenient, just about a 10-minute walk from Metro Line 2, which goes directly to the airport. This meant I could enjoy a relaxing massage right before my departure!

For a moment, I worried if it was some kind of exaggerated advertising, but I decided to go in anyway.

The interior was quite upscale, though the space itself was a bit small, with perhaps four treatment rooms.

After a short wait, I was offered water. Since there wasn't an English-speaking staff member, we communicated using a translation app.

They used a magnified view to analyze my scalp, explaining its condition and what it needed through the translation app. After that, I chose my preferred treatment, and we moved to the next step.

While the prices aren't super cheap, most people opt for the combined head spa and massage. I wanted to feel completely relaxed before my flight, so I chose a package that included both.

The Head Spa + Massage cost ¥368 (approximately ~$57). My deposit was deducted from the final payment.

3. My Jianyisheng Head Spa Experience: A Review

I was led to a room and lay down. The hair washing was so incredibly soothing that I completely forgot to take any photos!

Just like I'd seen on Instagram, they performed a 'waterfall' massage and played calming sounds to help clear my mind while I drifted off.

Many people I saw on Instagram (perhaps sponsored?) were beautifully capturing the waterfall massage, but I was fast asleep!

And falling asleep means it was absolutely wonderful, right?

I couldn't believe an hour and a half had passed so quickly. After the head spa, I sat up, and they proceeded with a shoulder and neck massage. (To be honest, this part felt a little light, but massage pressure can vary from person to person.)

My hair felt incredibly soft and luxurious, like I'd just stepped out of a high-end salon! I left feeling completely relaxed and refreshed before my flight.

I highly recommend getting this treatment before your departure or as a wonderful way to conclude your travel itinerary.
