Shanghai Greenhouse Garden Review 2026: Tickets & How to Go
Looking for a unique escape in Shanghai beyond the usual shopping and dining? Explore the incredible Shanghai Greenhouse Garden, Asia's largest indoor botanical paradise!

If you're in Shanghai and feel like just shopping and eating isn't quite enough,
then for places to visit, I highly recommend this local hot spot:
the Greenhouse Garden!
Opened in 2024, it's a relatively new tourist attraction,
and its scale is said to be one of Asia's largest...
It's perfect for a leisurely stroll and taking photos,
and especially if you're on a family trip with kids,
it's a place I'd strongly recommend as a fun indoor activity in Shanghai!
Since it doesn't seem to be widely known yet,
I've put together everything from my personal review,
to tickets and directions—
Shanghai Greenhouse Garden: Tickets & Admission Fees
On-site admission fees are
98 RMB for adults on weekdays, and 128 RMB on weekends.
Before my visit, I chose my entry time slot
and booked it on Trip.com on the same day.
The reason I often use Trip.com when traveling in China is that
payment is genuinely so convenient!!
What's more, by booking tickets in advance,
I didn't need to show my passport separately,
I just scanned the issued QR code,
and could enter right away, which was super easy.
Shanghai Greenhouse Garden Weekday Prices
Adult | ~$14 |
Children, Students, 60+ | ~$7 |
Night Ticket | ~$10 |
Ages 6 and under | Free |
Prices can vary based on your visit date, exchange rates,
and ongoing promotions,
so it's best to check directly before your visit.

Of course, on-site purchase is also possible.
You can use the information desk or kiosks,
and since the kiosks support multiple languages,
purchasing on-site won't be much trouble.
The prices are pretty much the same whether you buy on-site or via Trip.com,
so I recommend booking in advance for a hassle-free entry—
Shanghai Greenhouse Garden: Location & How to Get There

Personally, for getting there,
I'd recommend a taxi over the subway.
I departed from a hotel in the Bund area,
and it took about 15 minutes.
The taxi fare was around 30 RMB.
Traffic wasn't bad at all during the ride,
so I arrived quicker than expected.
Destination to enter in DiDi:
上海温室花园-检票入口
When I searched for and went to this destination,
the taxi dropped me off right at the main entrance gate of the Greenhouse Garden.

The Greenhouse Garden is located within the Shanghai Expo Culture Park,
and this park is seriously... enormous....
If you don't want to waste time getting lost,
make sure to confirm the DiDi destination before you go—
On the other hand, the subway takes at least 40 minutes,
and you'll have to walk about 10 more minutes after getting off the station...
That's roughly 50 minutes of one-way travel time.
For a distance that takes only 15 minutes by taxi,
I don't think it's worth taking 50 minutes by subway,
so personally, I really recommend DiDi!
Shanghai Greenhouse Garden: My Review
Operating Hours: 09:00~21:00 (Last entry: 20:30)
Evening Lights On: 19:00
Regular Closure: Mondays
If you want to quickly see the main highlights of the Shanghai Greenhouse Garden,
1.5 hours should be enough.
If you love taking photos and want to explore at a leisurely pace, allow about 2 hours.
If you're visiting with kids or parents and plan to take breaks,
I'd recommend setting aside 2 to 3 hours.

Hall 1
As soon as you step in, Hall 1 greets you with a stunning collection centered around desert plants.
Starting in a cave-like space,
you'll discover cacti and uniquely shaped trees.
From giant cacti to baobabs and olive trees,
there are so many plants that grab your attention with their sheer size alone!

Hall 2
Hall 2, also known as Wunshang Forest (운상삼림), is a vibrant space combining tropical rainforest plants with aquatic tanks.
Designed like a lush forest,
it even features a grand artificial waterfall in the middle.
The bridge overlooking the waterfall was a fantastic spot for photos!

Hall 3
Hall 3, the Cloud Mist Canyon (운무협곡), features an elevated walkway and a flower garden.
Personally, compared to the first two halls,
I felt it had fewer attractions, so I spent the least amount of time here.
However, there's a lovely area where kids can play in the water, so
if you're visiting with children, definitely keep that in mind!

Moving between the halls is a breeze –
just follow the signposts.
Plus, there are captivating media art installations interspersed throughout,
keeping the experience far from monotonous!

At night, the atmosphere completely transforms!
When the lights come on around 7 PM,
the scenery becomes utterly different from daytime.
I visited during the day this time,
but next time, I'm definitely going for the illuminated
evening hours!
Visiting Tips

Since the Shanghai Greenhouse Garden is quite extensive,
instead of spending equal time in every hall,
I highly recommend that when you find a space that truly captivates you,
take your time and explore it a bit more!
And of course, snap plenty of photos in those picture-perfect spots!
Another huge advantage of this place is that it's
relatively unaffected by the weather!
It's the perfect indoor destination for those scorching Shanghai summers,
chilly winter days, or even rainy afternoons.
Definitely save it as a fantastic indoor option!
Based on my September daytime visit,
the interior was a little humid,
but it didn't feel uncomfortably hot.

However, due to its glass greenhouse nature,
sunlight and UV rays can be strong on bright, sunny days.
It was overcast when I visited, which was perfect, but
if you're planning a daytime visit, it’s a good idea to bring UV protection.
Next to the information desk,
storage lockers are also available,
so if you're carrying a lot of bags, you can safely store them and explore with ease!
Upon visiting, I noticed quite a few
Chinese families enjoying the space with their kids.
While it might not be a super famous tourist spot yet,
if you're looking for somewhere a little different to explore,
or specifically an indoor destination perfect for kids,
I absolutely recommend this place!
If you book your tickets in advance,
you can simply scan your QR code for immediate entry,
so once your travel plans are set, get ready for a hassle-free visit! :)
