He who visits Shanghai Disneyland and doesn't ride TRON,
has no right to talk about Disneyland at all.

Yes, that's my own little "proverb"! If you're planning a trip to Shanghai, I'm sure Disneyland is on your radar, right? I'll admit, as a solo traveler who isn't usually a huge fan of thrill rides, I almost skipped Disneyland on my Shanghai itinerary. But then I rode TRON Lightcycle Power Run, and everything changed. Seriously, I've never experienced a ride with this level of speed and pure exhilaration before.
In this post, I'll share my experience riding TRON at Shanghai Disneyland, along with essential tips on what to prepare and other fantastic attractions that made my visit truly memorable.

Booking Shanghai Disneyland Tickets

To secure your admission to Shanghai Disneyland, you'll want to book your tickets in advance through an online platform. While there are several options available, I highly recommend Klook. I compared MyRealTrip, KKday, and Klook, and found Klook offered the best value and the simplest process for entry.

Booking your tickets at least two weeks in advance often qualifies you for an early bird discount, saving you 20% on the regular price.

I actually don't recommend the CNY119 (~$16 USD) meal coupon. I purchased a ticket that included one, but found it surprisingly difficult to register the coupon on the app. Plus, you're restricted to only purchasing food items worth exactly 119 CNY, which really limits your choices.

If you're visiting on a weekday, a standard admission ticket should be perfectly fine. However, on Fridays and weekends, crowds tend to swell in the afternoon, meaning popular attractions could have wait times exceeding two hours. If you're on a family vacation or a romantic date and want to minimize waiting, I highly recommend tickets that include Premier Access.
TRON Wait Times

I'd heard that TRON wait times could exceed two hours on weekends, which made me a bit nervous. I seriously considered purchasing a Disney Premier Access (DPA) pass to get in faster than the general admission line.

Ultimately, I didn't need to purchase DPA. I managed to get on TRON after waiting only about 30 minutes. While wait times do tend to increase during peak afternoon hours on weekend days (Saturday and Sunday), if you visit on a weekday or during the morning on a weekend, a standard admission ticket should be perfectly sufficient for riding.
Preparing for Your TRON Ride

Before you hop on TRON, I highly recommend stowing away all your personal belongings and bags. The ride is incredibly fast, making it almost impossible to film with a phone, and it's best to ride as lightly as possible. Opting for pants or shorts over a flowy skirt is also a smart choice for comfort and safety.

I personally had an Osmo Action 5 camera, so I detached the main unit and held it in my hand during the ride. It was my first time, and I was a little scared, but I really wanted to capture the experience! The result? A video that garnered over 100,000 views on Instagram! Turns out, quite a few people like me try to film their ride.
However, if you accidentally drop anything, it's pretty much guaranteed to be damaged or lost. So, resist the urge to push your luck and make sure all your valuable items are safely stored before you board.

What truly surprised me, beyond the sheer speed, was the immersive feel of the lightcycle itself. As you lean forward into the riding position, the footrests and seat automatically adjust and mold perfectly to your body! It's like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

The ride itself lasts less than five minutes. Many people find the ride time a bit short compared to the wait, and some even queue up again to ride it two or more times. As for me, I felt a little dizzy, so I only rode it once and made my escape!

That was my review of TRON Lightcycle Power Run, a ride that boasts breathtaking speed and turns that literally take your breath away. You can hear a hundred descriptions, but nothing compares to experiencing it firsthand. It's truly the fastest ride I've ever been on, and it reaffirmed why everyone raves about TRON – it's an absolute game-changer.

Even if your Shanghai itinerary is short, I truly hope you dedicate at least one day to Shanghai Disneyland. You'll get to experience thrilling attractions, enjoy lively street parades, and witness a spectacular fireworks display. It was absolutely worth every penny!

On weekends, the TRON wait time can exceed 2 hours. However, if you visit on a weekday or during the morning on a weekend, you can usually ride after waiting for about 30 minutes, even without a DPA product.
It's recommended to store all your belongings and bags before riding TRON. The ride is very fast, making phone photography almost impossible, and there's a risk of damage or loss if items fall. Also, it's better to wear pants rather than a flowing skirt.
The article does not recommend purchasing the CNY119 meal coupon. This is because it can be difficult to register the coupon in the app, and when used, you are limited to purchasing only CNY119-priced food, which narrows your food choices.
