As I was planning my Shanghai trip,
the most debated part of the itinerary was Disneyland!

Is it worth dedicating an entire day?
If you're on your first trip to Shanghai and wondering the same thing I did,
this post will definitely help you out!
To cut to the chase, I'm so glad I went!

The Zootopia zone, which you can only find in Shanghai, has so many photo spots,
and the attractions were so incredibly fun, I'd rank them number one in my life!
Even though I'm usually a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to rides,
the TRON Lightcycle Power Run in Tomorrowland, which first opened in Shanghai,
Wow... the speed was incredible, and it completely wiped away all my stress!
Based on my personal experience,
I'll share tips on using the official app and even the best spots for the fireworks.
I bought my ticket on the day, and it ended up being about ~$14 more expensive than for others.
Please don't pay more like I did, boohoo...

Buying early bird tickets is the cheapest option, so keep that in mind.
For Shanghai Disneyland admission tickets,
Given the high price per person, booking early is the ultimate tip for getting the cheapest price when planning your Shanghai trip!
1. Location and How to Get There from Downtown
Shanghai Disneyland is located
quite far out, in the suburbs away from the city center,
so I didn't even bother looking for other options
and just took a DiDi taxi there.
✔️ Travel Time: Approximately 40 to 50 minutes by taxi
✔️ DiDi Taxi Fare: 70 yuan ~ 100 yuan
(Approximately ~$10 ~ ~$14)
If you're two people or more, just hail a DiDi taxi
and go!

I wasn't confident enough to get there for opening,
so I had lunch and left leisurely, planning to catch the fireworks later.
I ate So Yang Saeng Jeon Red Lip Malatang at Nanjing East Road
and even had Ruixing Coconut Coffee for dessert.

We bought Zootopia headbands and pins at Miniso
and then set off for Shanghai Disneyland.
It was the day we were moving hotels from Nanjing East Road to Yu Garden,
so we dropped off our luggage.
We specifically departed from Yu Garden to Disneyland,
it took 30 minutes and cost 70 yuan.
2. Smart Ways to Book Disneyland Tickets
Shanghai Disneyland tickets offer
an "early bird" benefit.
· Super Early Bird (purchase 15 days in advance): ~$66
· Early Bird (purchase 10 days in advance): ~$81
· Standard Admission Ticket: ~$94

📌 Discount Booking Tip
2-3 weeks before your visit, check travel booking platforms for
early bird tickets or food & beverage coupons.

You can save over ~$14 to ~$21 per person!

3. Smart Routes to Minimize Wait Times
☑️ Download the Official Disneyland App

Download Disney Resort from the App Store.
You can instantly check operating hours
and quickly grasp attraction routes and wait times at a glance.
You can also purchase a FastPass to reduce wait times,
but it's quite expensive at 180 Yuan, which is approximately ~$26.

For popular attractions like TRON or Zootopia,
if you want to ride without waiting in line,
it's much more affordable to buy an optional package that includes a FastPass
when you purchase your admission ticket from the start.
📢 Early bird or coupon codes can also be applied to these!
>> Purchase FastPass Option <<

The most important thing to bring is your passport.
Tickets are issued upon passport verification at entry.
4. My Afternoon Experience at Shanghai Disneyland
As someone in my mid-30s,
an 'open run' (arriving right at opening) was just too much for me.
So, I boldly entered Disneyland at 3 PM.

Honestly, what can you really do if you arrive in the afternoon?
I rode all the popular attractions like TRON and Zootopia,
took plenty of photos, and even stayed for the fireworks — it was perfectly manageable energy-wise.

When I visited, the fireworks started at 8 PM, so if you want to see the fireworks,
I highly recommend an afternoon entry!
But if you have the stamina, go for the 'open run'!

After getting out of the DiDi taxi, the walk to the entrance was actually
quite a bit further than I expected.
Right in the middle of that path is a souvenir shop,
and it's the largest among all the merchandise stores.
I highly recommend checking it out before you enter the park!

Right from the entrance, there are so many photo spots,
and you'll find adorable Disneyland characters like Duffy and Friends.
I'd already seen them when I visited Tokyo DisneySea,
so it was a lovely surprise to meet them again in Shanghai.

It's also said that Shanghai Disneyland's castle is the largest
among all Disney theme parks worldwide.
I'd only visited the ones in Tokyo and Paris before,
and Shanghai's scale definitely felt the grandest.

At first, I was a bit lost and distracted,
and ended up wasting about 30 minutes,
but then we quickly made our way to TRON.

The wait time on the app showed 105 minutes,
but with so many reviews raving about its speed and how awesome it was,
we decided we absolutely had to ride it, no matter the wait.
The actual wait time was 60 minutes!
Watching the TRON ride vehicles whiz by continuously inside,
the time seemed to fly by.
Now, I'm probably the biggest chicken in the world,
so I did a ton of searching online to see if TRON would be too scary.
Here's my honest review of TRON:
It genuinely felt like riding an incredibly fast motorcycle.
When it turned corners, there were moments where I felt like I was floating,
and since the safety bar lifted with me,
my heart definitely pounded about three times then?
Even for a total scaredy-cat like me, it was fun and totally worth riding.
I'd ride it again with about 90% certainty (it was still a little scary...).

Since TRON is motorcycle-style, I wore pants because I was worried
my backside might show if I wore a skirt.
However, your bottom doesn't actually lift up that much,
so you're perfectly fine to wear a skirt!

My husband and I bought matching Shanghai T-shirts at a Carrefour (Darunfa) supermarket,
and wore them proudly as tourists.
📷 A photo in front of the Disneyland castle is an absolute must!
We even exchanged photo-taking favors with another Korean couple.
Honestly, I think this was a fantastic choice.
First of all, being comfortable makes it easier to get around,
and surprisingly, the photos turned out great, so I was really satisfied.

After taking photos at various photo zones along the way,
we immediately moved on to the Zootopia Zone.
Since the Zootopia land is also exclusive to Shanghai Disneyland,
it's definitely a must-visit, right?

I hadn't seen this in other reviews...
Did everyone else know that you have to queue up and wait to take photos
at all these photo spots?
Well, I found out only after arriving!
It was even harder than waiting for TRON.

Those Chinese ladies who are seriously dedicated to cosplay...
They were taking photos for like 10 minutes each, it was crazy!
It felt like it took over 30 minutes just to get photos at these two spots.

The city's design and atmosphere from Disney's Zootopia animation
are perfectly recreated here in real life, at full scale.

It's a space that truly offers a vivid, immersive feeling,
as if you've stepped right into the city from the movie.
I felt so amazed and thrilled the entire time we explored it.

The buildings are designed to match the animals' sizes,
and you'll spend a lot of time here, taking photos
with everything from road signs to traffic lights.

You absolutely, definitely HAVE to ride Zootopia: Hot Pursuit!
Seriously, even if the wait time is long, definitely stick it out and wait,
or just buy a Disney Premier Access (DPA) pass.
This is a ride attraction where Judy and Nick, as rookie police officers,
chase a runaway criminal in a police car.
The emotional impact at the end is something I'll never forget.
It's so incredibly well-made and fun that
I would have wanted to ride it again if there wasn't a line.

The wait time showed 120 minutes,
but I still managed to get on in just 60 minutes.
I guess I was just really lucky!
When we came out, it had gotten dark, and the Zootopia Zone by night
was absolutely beautiful.

Now, let's head straight to watch the fireworks show!
You'll want to find a spot in the central plaza in front of the castle.
We arrived around 7:40 PM, and all the prime spots were already taken,
but I still managed to capture everything by holding my phone high!
If you want to secure a front-row view,
you should definitely arrive and stake out your spot at least an hour beforehand!

The Shanghai Disneyland fireworks show lasts about 20 minutes.
Afterward, we called a Didi taxi to head to Haidilao for dinner!
The Didi taxi fare on the way there was 80 RMB, and
if you'd like to know the exact pickup location for a Didi taxi when leaving,
just leave a comment, and I'll share the Gaode Map (Amap) address with you!
So, that's my review of Shanghai Disneyland tickets, including recommendations, price comparisons, and some fantastic course tips!
Definitely buying your tickets in advance can save you ~$28
+ plus you can get extra discounts with a Klook coupon code!
So, if you're planning a trip to Shanghai,
I really hope this helps you with your purchase!
