A Must-Visit Destination on Your Shanghai Trip

Without a doubt, the city that has benefited the most
from China's visa-free entry policy is Shanghai.
These days, it has become such a hot destination among travelers,
comparable in popularity to classic favorites like Japan.
And the absolute must-visit spot when you travel to Shanghai
is definitely Shanghai Disneyland.
With incredible themed lands ranging from Zootopia to Pirates of the Caribbean,
it's a magical place where visitors of all ages
can experience a fairytale day!
Today, for anyone planning a trip to Shanghai Disneyland,
I'll share everything you need to know about discounted ticket info
and my honest review of visiting on a Sunday!
Shanghai Disneyland Ticket Booking Guide

First, let's look at the different types of Shanghai Disneyland tickets
and how to book them at a discount.

📌 Tickets are mainly divided into Standard Tickets, Early Bird Tickets,
and Disney Premier Access (DPA).
📍 First, Standard Tickets can be booked anytime,
but the price varies depending on the day of the week.
For example, while a Wednesday (low crowd) might cost around ~$77,
the price can go up to around ~$96 on a busy Saturday.
So, if your schedule allows, visiting Shanghai Disneyland
on a weekday is definitely the way to go!

📍 Next, Early Bird Tickets must be booked at least
10 days before your visit,
and they are slightly cheaper than Standard Tickets.
For instance, if a Standard Ticket is around ~$77,
an Early Bird Ticket for the same day would be around ~$72,
saving you about 6–7%.
In short, you'll get the best price if you book at least 10 days in advance
and plan your visit for a weekday!

📍 Lastly, there's a separate option called DPA (Disney Premier Access).
While not required for admission,
it's a premium pass that lets you skip the regular lines for rides.
Popular attractions like Zootopia: Hot Pursuit or TRON
always draw huge crowds,
often with wait times exceeding an hour.
If you use DPA for these rides,
you can cut your waiting time by more than half!
If you're traveling with young children or elderly parents,
or if saving time is more important to you than saving money,
👉🏻 booking DPA in advance is highly recommended.

💡 Next, here is how to book your tickets.
Buying your tickets through the link below is cheaper than the official website,
so if your travel dates are set, I recommend booking right now!

My Sunday Afternoon Experience at Shanghai Disneyland

While visiting on a weekday is ideal,
I know most of you can only visit during the weekend.
I actually visited on a Sunday afternoon,
and I'd love to share my experience with you!

After exploring another spot in Shanghai on Sunday morning,
I entered Disneyland around 1:30 PM.
The line to get in was almost nonexistent at the time,
and the security bag check at the entrance was pretty light.
Also, since I registered my passport when booking the tickets,
my passport served as my entry ticket.

Maybe because it was a Sunday, the park was incredibly crowded,
and the wait times for popular rides like Zootopia and TRON
were almost always over 90 minutes.
So, instead of wasting time in those massive lines,
I kept an eye on the official app and headed for
the relatively less popular attractions first.
Here's a quick tip: if the listed wait time
is over 60 minutes, it really is packed.
But if it’s around 40 to 50 minutes, the actual wait time
might be much shorter, so that's the perfect time to jump in line!

One moment where I truly realized just how crowded Disneyland can get
was during the wait for the parade.
Nearly an hour before the parade started, thousands of people
were already lining up and securing their spots along the route.
I was seriously blown away by the sheer size of the crowd!
However, the silver lining is that during the parade,
wait times for the rides tend to drop.
So we timed it perfectly and headed to
ride the major attractions, like Zootopia, during this time.

Since a massive crowd rushes straight to Zootopia as soon as the parade ends,
I highly recommend riding Zootopia first and then catching the next parade.

Finally, we went to find a spot for the ultimate Shanghai Disneyland finale:
the spectacular fireworks show.
Even though it was still an hour before the show started,
the best viewing spots were already completely packed.
So, we secured our spot about 40 to 50 minutes before the start
and waited there to watch the fireworks.
The beautiful fireworks show lasted for about 20 minutes,
but people actually started heading for the exits about 10 minutes before it ended.

As it turns out, once the park closes after the fireworks,
thousands of people pour out at the exact same time,
making the wait for the subway or taxis absolutely chaotic.
That's why seasoned visitors start leaving early!
We took the hint and headed out about 5 minutes before the end.
Even then, the subway was incredibly crowded,
so I highly recommend heading out slightly early to beat the rush.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book Shanghai Disneyland tickets to get them at a cheaper price?
If you book an early bird ticket at least 10 days before your visit, you can purchase it for about 6-7% cheaper than a regular ticket. Also, prices vary by day of the week; it costs ~$77 on Wednesdays and ~$96 on Saturdays, so we recommend visiting on a weekday.
Is there a way to reduce the wait time for popular attractions like Zootopia or Tron?
You can reduce the wait time by more than half by purchasing a Disney Premier Access (DPA) ticket separately. Alternatively, wait times for attractions decrease when crowds gather for the parade, so taking advantage of this time to ride is also a good idea.
Do I need a physical ticket to enter Shanghai Disneyland?
A physical ticket is not required. Since your passport information is registered when booking the ticket, you can simply present your passport at the entrance for immediate processing.
How can I avoid the crowds when leaving Shanghai Disneyland after watching the fireworks?
The fireworks last for about 20 minutes, and thousands of people leave all at once at closing time, making the wait for subways and taxis very crowded. Therefore, it is recommended to leave 5 to 10 minutes before the fireworks end.
