Shanghai Disneyland 2026: Prohibited Items & Packing Tips
Don't make the same mistake I did! Discover crucial packing tips for Shanghai Disneyland 2026, including prohibited items and how to avoid extra costs at the entrance.
Shanghai Disneyland 2026: Prohibited Items & Packing Tips

Just like many others, I packed an item without a second thought, only to be stopped at the Disneyland entrance and hit with an unexpected fee. If you're planning a trip to Shanghai, make sure to read the details below to avoid a similar situation!
1. How to Get to Shanghai Disneyland

Shanghai Disneyland is pretty accessible from the city center. The most popular ways to get there are by using a ride-hailing app like DiDi (China's Uber) or a pre-booked private transfer.
Using DiDi is straightforward; just open the app like you would Uber, set your destination to Shanghai Disneyland, and you're good to go. I opted for a car to save time, and it was much more convenient to arrive directly without any subway transfers.

However, trying to catch a taxi after the spectacular fireworks show concluded was incredibly challenging. The journey back to the hotel felt surprisingly arduous, with long waits for a ride. I highly recommend booking a private transfer in advance to ensure a smooth and stress-free departure after the night's grand finale.

2. What NOT to Bring to Shanghai Disneyland

I brought my Osmo Pocket 3 along with a mini tripod, intending to capture some awesome footage. Despite its small size, it was immediately flagged during the security check at the entrance, and a staff member escorted me directly to the luggage storage area.
Ultimately, I had to pay ~ $1 (10 Yuan) on the spot to store my item, and the staff informed me I needed to pick it up by 9:30 PM. It was a frustrating situation that could have been easily avoided if I had known the rules beforehand.

When I went to retrieve my bag, I noticed other international tourists also picking up items for similar reasons. It seemed many visitors were unaware of the park's regulations.
At Shanghai Disneyland, tripods and certain other photography equipment may be restricted. You should also be mindful of the following items:
Items NOT to Bring to Shanghai Disneyland |
Tripods and some photography equipment |
Extendable selfie sticks |
Drones and remote-controlled devices |
Wheeled luggage/suitcases |
Large bags |
Glass bottles and cans |
Alcohol |
Dangerous goods, knives |
If your goal is vlogging, it's best to bring just the Osmo Pocket 3 camera itself and leave accessories like mini tripods at your accommodation. Otherwise, you might end up wasting time at the Shanghai Disneyland entrance and incurring additional costs, just like I did.
I did use my Osmo Pocket 3 for the fireworks show, and the quality was absolutely spectacular!
3. Shanghai Disneyland Luggage Storage Prices

If you happen to bring a restricted item like I did, you'll need to use the on-site luggage storage service. Here are the storage prices I noted during my visit:
The luggage storage facility is conveniently located right next to Starbucks.
Luggage Storage Price | |
Small Items | ~ $1 (10 Yuan) |
Large Items | ~ $11 (80 Yuan) |
Payment Methods | Alipay, WeChat Pay |
Pickup Time | Within 1 hour after park closing |
I paid ~ $1 for my mini tripod and retrieved it without any issues later that evening. However, it's always better to avoid these unexpected expenses. So, make sure to double-check the list of prohibited items before you go.
Shanghai Disneyland offers an incredible amount of fun, but a little preparation can significantly enhance your experience. Especially if you plan to bring photography equipment or luggage, review the regulations beforehand to save yourself unnecessary time and money.
