The Ultimate Must-Visit Destination in Shanghai
With the visa-free policy extended for another year,
traveling to Shanghai is becoming more popular than ever!
And for most people heading to Shanghai,
Shanghai Disneyland is bound to be at the very top of the itinerary.
However, with so many reviews warning about the massive crowds,
you might be wondering if you should book the Fastpass (Premier Access)
along with your standard entry ticket.
If you're stuck on this dilemma, let me share my honest experience
to help you decide if it's actually worth it!
Shanghai Disneyland Ticket Types Explained
First, let’s break down the different types of tickets
available at Shanghai Disneyland.

📍 Disneyland tickets are generally split into three main options:
Shanghai Disneyland Ticket Options | Price Range (Early Bird Rate) | Premier Access Package Details |
Standard Admission Ticket | From ~$58 | - |
Admission Ticket & 3-Ride Premier Access | From ~$144 | TRON, Roaring Rapids, Buzz OR Seven Dwarfs, Rex's Racer, Camp Discovery |
Admission Ticket & 6-Ride Premier Access | From ~$218 | Zootopia, Buzz, TRON, Seven Dwarfs, Roaring Rapids, Camp Discovery OR Zootopia, Buzz, Dumbo, Pirates of the Caribbean, Crystal Grotto, Soaring |
Admission Ticket & 8-Ride Premier Access | From ~$278 | Zootopia, Peter Pan, Soaring, TRON, Roaring Rapids, Pirates of the Caribbean, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, Buzz |
📍 The Standard Admission Ticket is your basic, mandatory pass
required to enter Shanghai Disneyland,
and the pricing varies depending on the day of the week you visit.
Wednesdays are typically the cheapest, starting from around ~$58,
but prices can more than double depending on peak days.

📍 On the other hand, Premier Access is completely optional.
Think of it as a Fastpass that lets you skip the massive queues
for major attractions. It’s incredibly useful on weekends and public holidays.
That said, it adds a significant cost on top of your entry ticket,
so you'll want to carefully consider if you really need it before booking.

Is Premier Access Actually Worth It?
Now, let me share my firsthand experience
on whether Premier Access is a must-have!
If you visit on a quieter weekday (especially Tuesday to Thursday),
the waiting times for rides can actually be quite manageable.
But on Saturdays, Sundays, or Chinese public holidays,
the crowds swell massively, and the wait times become brutal.

For ultra-popular rides like TRON,
waiting over an hour is a daily occurrence,
and Zootopia almost always has a queue of 90 minutes or more.
During the pleasant spring or autumn months,
waiting outdoors might not feel too bad.
But standing outside in the freezing cold of winter? That’s a whole different story.

❗️ This is why Premier Access can be a total lifesaver.
However, it's not all rainbows and butterflies.
Because it's a premium pass, it is quite expensive.
On average, it works out to about ~$26 per attraction.
Fast-tracking just two rides can cost almost as much as your entire park admission.
✅ For reference, the 8-Ride Premier Access bundle
covers Zootopia, Peter Pan, Soaring, TRON, Roaring Rapids,
Pirates of the Caribbean, Crystal Grotto, and Buzz Lightyear.
Attractions like Peter Pan, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, and Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue
usually have shorter lines, so there's not much need for Premier Access.

So, I highly recommend just booking a standard general admission ticket,
and then purchasing individual Disney Premier Access (DPA) on the spot
using the official Disneyland app on the day of your visit.
However, since DPA tickets are limited in quantity,
▶️I only recommend booking the Premier Access package in advance
if you're worried about them selling out.
(It's also a great option if you're traveling with kids!)

How to enjoy the park without Premier Access?
I actually visited Shanghai Disneyland on a Sunday
without purchasing Premier Access at all!
Here are some of my favorite insider tips for making the most of your day!

1. Utilize the Single Rider Line
First, make the absolute most of the Single Rider lines.
Some major attractions, like Zootopia: Hot Pursuit,
have a separate queue designated for Single Riders.
This line fills in single empty seats left by groups on the ride.
Because of this, the wait times are generally much shorter—
sometimes saving you 30 minutes or more!
While you won't sit right next to your friends or family,
the cast members do their best to get you on the same ride vehicle if possible.
Definitely give this strategy a try!

2. Target Short Wait Times First
The second tip is to constantly monitor wait times on the app
and run to the ones with the shortest lines.
Every now and then, wait times for super-popular rides
suddenly drop below 60 minutes.
In these moments, the actual wait time is often even shorter than posted!
I highly recommend hurrying over and hopping in line right away.
The only downside is that your route might get a bit messy,
and you'll probably end up getting a lot of steps in!
Quick Summary: Shanghai Disneyland Tips

Today, we walked through all the ticket details and whether
Premier Access is truly worth it for Shanghai Disneyland.
Let's wrap it all up with a quick summary!
Premier Access is a separate fast-pass option
that allows you to skip the long regular standby lines.
Since it can get quite chilly depending on the season,
👉🏻 if you're sensitive to the cold or visiting with young kids,
it is absolutely worth the splurge to save time and energy.
Keep in mind that some pre-packaged Premier Access bundles might include less popular rides.
If you want to be selective, purchasing individual DPAs through the app on the day of is a great alternative.

I hope these tips help you plan the perfect adventure.
Have an absolutely magical time at Shanghai Disneyland!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the price difference between a regular admission ticket and a Premier Access package at Shanghai Disneyland?
A regular admission ticket starts at a minimum of ~$58 on Wednesdays. On the other hand, packages that include Premier Access show a significant price difference, costing ~$144 for 3 attractions and ~$278 for 8 attractions.
What should I be aware of when purchasing the 8-attraction Premier Access package at Shanghai Disneyland?
The 8-attraction package includes Peter Pan, Voyage, and Buzz, in addition to popular attractions like Zootopia and TRON. Since these three attractions usually have short wait times, the usefulness of Premier Access for them might be relatively low.
Is there a way to reduce wait times on-site without purchasing a Premier Access package in advance?
You can purchase a regular admission ticket and then buy Disney Premier Access (DPA) for individual attractions through the Disneyland app on the day of your visit. However, please note that DPA tickets issued on the day are limited in quantity and may sell out early.
Are there any tips for riding the Zootopia attraction quickly without Premier Access at Shanghai Disneyland?
Using the single rider line available at the Zootopia attraction can reduce your wait time by more than 30 minutes. You may not be able to sit next to your party, but since it fills empty seats first, you can pass through the queue quickly.
