Seomun Pork Cutlet: Local Eats, Wait Times, and Parking Guide

Hello, fellow travelers!
I'm travel influencer Nabongsoon.
I recently took a trip to Daegu.
Since I arrived about half a day earlier
than my scheduled meetup time with my family,
I decided to visit a legendary local market spot
that is usually a bit too busy to navigate with kids.
They say "eating comes first," even when exploring a market!
So, I headed straight to Seomun Tonkatsu,
one of the most popular spots in Daegu's Seomun Market.
This place is incredibly loved, even in a massive market
like Seomun Market, which is absolutely packed with endless street food options.
With high expectations, I bravely joined the queue all by myself
and enjoyed a truly fabulous solo dining experience.
Let me share my story with you!
1. Seomun Tonkatsu Location

Seomun Market is an iconic landmark that has grown
alongside the history of Daegu.
It originally started as a small marketplace called "Daegu-jang,"
but grew exponentially after the late 17th century.
By the late Joseon Dynasty, it became a nationwide famous market,
solidifying its status as the ultimate hub of Daegu's food culture.

Seomun Tonkatsu is one of those legendary, highly-rated spots
with a wait that you just can't pass by if you're visiting Seomun Market.

50 Dalseong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu
Right in front of Exit 2 of Seomun Market Station
🚶
How to Find Seomun Tonkatsu
Come out of Exit 3 of Seomun Market Station,
walk straight into the market alley,
and you will see the Zone 2 General Shopping Mall building.

Head inside and take the escalator
down to the B1 level, where you'll find a lively food court
packed with some of the market's most famous eateries.

Right around the center, you'll spot the cozy
little storefront of Seomun Tonkatsu.

It's very easy to reach
if you park in the building's parking lot,
but since I visited on the weekend, it was incredibly crowded.
People were waiting in line for a long time just to park.
3. The Menu

I wondered for a second if it was really worth standing
in such a long line just for a solo meal,
but with high expectations, I decided to join the queue.
They keep it simple with just 2 menu items:
Handmade Tonkatsu (~$6) and
Kimchi Rice Bowl (~$6).
Most people who visit in pairs seem to order
one Tonkatsu and one Rice Bowl to share!

Since there were so many customers ordering uncooked pork cutlets to-go,
the wait time ended up being quite a bit longer than I expected.
Uncooked Pork Cutlet Set (~$10),
Uncooked Pork Cutlet Single Pack (~$9)

Since I was planning on a non-stop foodie adventure
in the city center later, I knew I couldn't handle eating both.
So, during the entire 40-minute wait in line on this busy weekend lunch,
I was locked in deep, delicious contemplation.
The pork cutlet (donkatsu) is obviously a crowd-pleaser,
but since I already had a dinner plan lined up for some legendary Daegu makchang (grilled abomasum),
I decided to go with the Kimchi Rice Bowl,
which is already highly acclaimed for its incredible flavor.
They take your order all at once right before you sit down,
so it’s a good idea to decide what you want in advance!
3. A Taste of Culinary Mastery

Despite being a tiny spot with seating for only about 10 people,
the weekend lunch rush was no joke. With a constant stream of dine-in customers and takeout orders,
they were flying out so fast it felt like they were selling a donkatsu every single minute.
The popularity was absolutely mind-blowing.
I even heard the staff telling newcomers
that even takeout orders had a 30 to 40-minute wait.
On this exact same floor, Seomun Market's legendary culinary giants—
like Eolkeun-i Kalguksu (spicy knife-cut noodles), Masitneunjip Guksunara,
the original Monnani Tteokbokki, Seomun Bingsu, and Jenny Bingsu—are all packed together.
It was a wonderfully chaotic sensory overload with so many food stalls,
lively calls from vendors, and bustling crowds everywhere.
Yet, amidst all the madness, the owner of Seomun Donkatsu remained incredibly kind and welcoming—
major respect to them!

Since I was dining solo, I was guided to a cozy corner seat,
and after waiting about another 15 minutes,
my Kimchi Rice Bowl finally arrived.

But even before the main dish arrived, they brought out warm broth and water.
Sipping on the savory broth while watching the owner and staff work their magic
in the small open kitchen—expertly frying cutlets and stir-frying bowls—
meant there was never a boring moment.

As for the donkatsu, it had that ultimate "crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside" look.
Thick, freshly fried, and absolutely irresistible.
Just one look at that thick cut of meat drenched in their signature homemade sauce,
and you knew it was going to be an elite pork cutlet.
Daegu is famous for dishes that use a clean, spicy red sauce—
like bok-bulgogi (spicy pufferfish), yaki-udon, muchim-hoe (spicy raw fish salad), and tteokbokki.

The Kimchi Rice Bowl I ordered was surprisingly packed with meat, making it super satisfying.
The kimchi had just the right amount of tanginess and a delightful crunch,
delivering exactly the deliciousness I was hoping for.
It was actually spicier than I expected, but the fresh cabbage salad
and a perfectly fried egg balanced out the heat beautifully.
It didn't taste artificial or overly aggressive;
instead, it tasted like a hearty, loving home-cooked meal made by mom.
Absolutely perfect for my taste buds!
I loved that unexpected kick of spice,
and I could tell that pairing it with the donkatsu
would be the ultimate combo to cut through any richness.
4. Wrapping Up a Budget-Friendly Feast

And that wraps up my solo adventure at Daegu's Seomun Market
before meeting up with my family!
As one of Daegu's absolute must-visit landmarks,
it’s a vibrant hotspot overflowing with things to see, do, and eat.
Although the weekend wait times were quite long,
a single bowl of that spicy, crunchy, and soul-satisfying Kimchi Rice Bowl
made all my fatigue melt away.
I highly recommend doing a full food crawl,
stopping by the noodle stalls or shaved ice (bingsu) spots on the same floor!

Even if you just look at the donkatsu spots inside the market,
you've got amazing options like Mirim Donkatsu, Gourmet Donkatsu, and Baktan Donkatsu.

And beyond that, there's Kyunghee Restaurant, Misungdang Napjak Mandu (flat dumplings),
With an endless lineup of legendary food stalls like Mrs. Jang’s Leaf-Shaped Dumplings,
you'll definitely want to plan your feast ahead of time!

Soak up the lively, buzzing energy that only a traditional market can offer,
and enjoy a delicious food adventure in Daegu!
