The Sebel Quay West Sydney Review: Unbeatable Opera House Views
Dreaming of an iconic Sydney stay? The Sebel Quay West Suites Sydney offers unparalleled Opera House views from private terraces, perfect for a romantic getaway. Discover rooms, amenities, and value.

When I was planning my Sydney trip, I absolutely knew I wanted to stay in a hotel with views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
There are many hotels famous for their Opera House views, but after comparing prices and the actual views from the rooms, my final choice was The Sebel Quay West Suites Sydney.
What I loved most was that you don't just peek at the landmarks through a window from your room; you can experience them even more vividly, taking in the entire panorama right from your terrace!
Here, I've outlined why I chose The Sebel Quay West among the Opera House view hotels, along with details about the room interior, accommodation costs, and facilities.

1. Sydney Opera House View Hotels

When you're looking for an Opera House view hotel in Sydney, Park Hyatt, Shangri-La, and Four Seasons are some of the most renowned.
Not all rooms in these hotels offer Opera House views, so my first step was to identify which specific room types did.
Sydney Opera House View Hotels | |
Park Hyatt | King Bed with Opera View |
Shangri-La | Deluxe Opera House City King |
Four Seasons | Deluxe Full Harbour View Room |
The Sebel Quay West | Deluxe One King Bedroom Harbour View |
For Park Hyatt and Shangri-La, you need to choose rooms with 'Opera' in their name, while for Four Seasons, it's the "Full" Harbour View, and for The Sebel Quay West, it's the 'Harbour View' rooms that guarantee an Opera House view.

As you can see from the map above, Park Hyatt offers a direct, frontal view of the Opera House, whereas the remaining three hotels offer a diagonal view. This is why Park Hyatt is significantly more expensive and boasts a superior view.
However, Park Hyatt was overwhelmingly beyond our budget, and after reading reviews for Four Seasons and Shangri-La, it seemed there were differences in how well the Opera House was visible depending on the room.

The Sebel Quay West has rooms that all come with a terrace, guaranteeing an excellent view of the Opera House no matter which floor or room you get.
As this was almost the most expensive accommodation of our honeymoon, I didn't want to risk leaving our room view to chance, so we decided to stay at The Sebel Quay West!

The room I stayed in was the Deluxe One King Bedroom Harbour View Apartment, and from the terrace, we could see both the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge simultaneously.
From sunset well into the night, we could take in Sydney's nightscape without any glass reflection, making our stay itself feel like a whole travel itinerary.

2. The Room

The room had a layout closer to a small apartment, with a separate living room and bedroom. The living room featured a sofa, a coffee table, and a 4-person dining table, making it quite spacious for two people.
As soon as I entered the living room, the view outside the window took my breath away, but stepping onto the terrace revealed an even more spectacular and overwhelming sight!
If you're debating whether to stay at The Sebel, I highly recommend checking out a video of the views from the living room and terrace!

The terrace view, bringing peace of mind even on a cloudy day.

The kitchen was also fully equipped.
Beyond just a refrigerator and microwave, it also came with a full array of dishes, cups, wine glasses, pots, and cooking utensils, making it perfect for preparing simple meals.

We wanted to make the most of our time at the hotel, so after grocery shopping nearby, we enjoyed dinner in our room and had breakfast the next day with bread, yogurt, and salad.
With the Opera House and Harbour Bridge spread out before us, we didn't envy any fancy restaurant with a view.

The bedroom gets great natural light, and there's a large mirror in the closet, so if you take a mirror selfie, the Harbour Bridge will appear in the background!

The bathroom features both a bathtub and a shower booth.
Since it was our honeymoon, our trip was quite long, but having a washing machine and dryer right in the room meant we could easily catch up on laundry!

3. Pricing

The Sebel Quay West is a 5-star hotel located near Circular Quay.
It’s perfectly situated for exploring the Opera House and Harbour Bridge on foot, and it offers convenient access to Sydney's main tourist attractions.

The accommodation cost at The Sebel Quay West can fluctuate by ~$146 to ~$219 even within the same month.
If you're planning to stay here during your Sydney trip, I recommend choosing the cheapest day among your intended dates.

Harbour View rooms are limited, and for some dates in October, even the relatively more affordable 1-bedroom options are already sold out. Therefore, I highly recommend booking as far in advance as possible.
Trip.com | Agoda | Booking.com |
~$508 Non-refundable | ~$507 Non-refundable | ~$507 Non-refundable |
While the price differences between various accommodation sites might not be huge, rates can vary by date, so I recommend checking at least three sites.
4. Amenities

Beyond the rooms, The Sebel Quay West offers a variety of amenities, including a swimming pool and a gym.

We went to the indoor pool early in the morning, and since we were the only ones there, it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves!

What's special about The Sebel Quay West's pool is that one side is made of transparent glass, making it super fun to capture unique videos like this!

There's also a terrace on the same floor as the pool, so even if you don't stay in an Opera House view room, you can still enjoy stunning views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge from the high-floor terrace.

While there is a gym, the equipment wasn't incredibly diverse, and the space felt a bit small.
However, with the city view stretching out before me, using the treadmill made me feel like a fabulous modern woman!
