How to Book & Waiting Tips
Good news: Ryunosu Nakasu accepts reservations!
We decided to try our luck without a booking on a Saturday night around 9:00 PM.
Luckily, we walked straight in, but the place fills up quickly on weekends.
To secure your spot and avoid a wait, we highly recommend booking in advance.
The Vibe: Inside & Out
Located steps away from the Nakasu River, the restaurant is hard to miss with its bright yellow sign glowing in the night.

They even have outdoor terrace seating.
If you are visiting during the breezy spring or autumn months, sitting outside with a cold drink under the Nakasu night sky is absolute perfection.

Inside, the layout features cozy counter seating perfect for solo travelers, alongside standard tables for groups.

A huge plus for travelers: each seat is equipped with 110V outlets, so you can charge your phone while enjoying your meal!

Menu & What We Ordered
Because Ryunosu operates its own meat wholesale business, they can source top-tier cuts at incredibly reasonable prices.
Beyond classic Yakiniku, the menu features a diverse selection including Japanese udon, motsunabe (offal hotpot), and various horumon (offal) options.

The Taste Test Review
Once seated, you will find chopsticks, tissues, and shichimi pepper at your table.
Shortly after ordering, they bring out individual dipping plates, fresh wasabi, sea salt, and a refreshing cabbage salad.

Next comes the star of the show: the hot charcoal grill placed right in front of you.

Enter the main event: Yamagata Beef Yakiniku!
We started with their signature thick-cut salted beef tongue and the special kalbi.

Stunning marbling on the beef tongue and special kalbi
Yamagata beef is one of Japan's premium Wagyu varieties, requiring strict regional certification.
The marbling is incredibly fine, which translates to an insanely tender texture and rich, buttery flavor.

Perfectly grilled Wagyu at Ryunosu Nakasu
To drink, the Nigori Yuzu sake was vibrant, citrusy, and cut through the rich marbling of the beef beautifully.
If you are a heavy drinker, they also offer Nomihodai (all-you-can-drink) plans!

The Special Kalbi is thinly sliced and lightly marinated in a sweet, savory sauce, meaning it cooks in seconds.

It literally melts in your mouth with an explosion of umami—no extra dipping sauce required.

And now, the star of the night: the beef tongue!
If you have never had tongue at a Japanese Yakiniku spot, this is your sign to try it.

When grilled to a perfect golden-brown, it yields a unique texture that is simultaneously tender, chewy, and crisp.
The fresh wasabi provided was so exceptionally good and paired so perfectly with the beef that we actually asked the staff where we could buy some to take home!

Naturally, we had to order a second round of the beef tongue.

Thick, juicy, and kissed with subtle charcoal smoke—it is hard to find tongue this fresh and high-quality anywhere else.
