How to Book & Waiting Tips
Ryuen Nishinakasu is actually one of the few places in Fukuoka
that is officially certified to serve authentic Kobe beef.
They usually have a waitlist, but
I visited around 8:30 PM on a weekday
and was lucky enough to get seated right away without waiting.
If you specifically want a table with a Nakasu River view or want to try their set courses,
I highly recommend booking in advance.
Exterior & Interior
You can feel the upscale, luxurious vibe of Ryuen starting right at the entrance.
You can also preview the menu briefly right outside the door.

Stepping inside,
you're greeted by the reception desk and a meat-aging fridge,
which immediately gives off the vibe of a high-end, professional yakiniku specialty restaurant.

Even though we walked in without a reservation,
we got incredibly lucky and were guided to a private room overlooking the Nakasu River!

The gorgeous night view of the Nakasu River peeking through the large window, combined with the soft, ambient lighting,
made this the most memorable meal of our entire Fukuoka trip.

There’s also a wardrobe inside the room, which was super convenient for hanging up coats and storing bags.

The restrooms are located inside the restaurant
and are meticulously stocked with amenities like toothbrushes, cotton swabs, toothpicks, and mouthwash.

Dinner Review
Fukuoka is a hot spot for tourists, so walking into restaurants without a reservation often means waiting in long lines.
We were wandering around looking for any decent yakiniku place
when we completely stumbled upon Ryuen!

Stepping inside, the interior was so luxurious and elegant
that it immediately struck me as the perfect place to treat your parents on a family trip.

What I was most excited about, though, was the seating overlooking the Nakasu River.
I've always wanted to try dining on a Nakasu River cruise,
and enjoying our meal by the window with the river view
gave us a wonderful taste of that unique, romantic atmosphere.

First up was the Dassai Tasting Flight! When we ordered it, they brought out the large bottles and poured them right to the brim of our gorgeous glasses.

Cheers with the gorgeous Nakasu River in the background!
It was delightfully sweet and worked wonders as an appetizer to wake up our palates.

In Japan, many restaurants and bars serve a small starter as soon as you sit down—
it's called "otoshi," which functions as a table charge.
We were served stem lettuce and silken tofu,
and the presentation was so elegant that we felt instantly pampered.

The absolute must-try menu item at Ryuen is the Thick-Cut Beef Tongue!
Two out of the three of us absolutely raved about it—the thickness and texture were truly on another level.

The thinly sliced beef tongue also arrived beautifully arranged on the plate.

For the premium sirloin and kalbi, adding a touch of kizami wasabi (chopped wasabi)
clears up any greasiness instantly and elevates the rich flavor beautifully.

Ryuen also has kimchi on the menu!
The cucumber kimchi is incredibly refreshing, making it a perfect pairing with the rich meats.

With Dassai sake, the lower the number on the bottle,
the more polished the rice grains are, which makes for an incredibly high-quality brew.
Our kind server even set up the bottles by the window so we could get the perfect shot!
Enjoying premium sake with the glittering night view of Nakasu River in the background—
this is exactly what travel is all about. 🤍

Finishing off with a refreshing Chu-hi!
Dining with a view of the Nakasu River night lights made the vibe
absolutely incredible.

The Verdict
It is on the pricier side, but
the ambiance, service, and meat quality were all so satisfying.
It's a Fukuoka yakiniku spot I highly recommend.
