The accommodation I booked for our Sydney trip this time is the
Rydges Darling Square Apartment Hotel
.

I was actually torn between YEHS Harbour Suites until the very end, but after checking reviews, I decided Rydges seemed like the better choice, especially when it came to noise levels and cleanliness.

It's perfectly located in Sydney's CBD (Central Business District), and you can walk to Paddy's Markets and Darling Harbour in just 5-10 minutes!

Plus, it’s just a 6-minute walk to Town Hall and Museum train stations, making public transport incredibly convenient. This location is absolutely perfect for our Sydney itinerary, as we aren't planning to rent a car!
I even went on a frantic search, thinking I might compromise a little on location for a cheaper option... but the further away from the CBD I looked, the less accessible places became. And with a child, safety was a big concern. Honestly, I couldn't find anything better that was also cheaper! (If you discover a hidden gem, please, please, PLEASE let me know!)

As a family of three, when we were searching for Sydney accommodation, it wasn't just about the location; it was also crucial to know if the room could actually accommodate three people and how the bed setup would work.
When I checked the Superior Queen room I booked for three people, it was available, and interestingly, the room price didn't change even when I switched the number of guests from two to three.

It's not a full kitchen, but there's a simple kitchenette where you can whip up easy meals,
and the bathroom is super clean too!
However, since the Superior Queen room only has one queen bed,
it's a bit of a squeeze for our family of three (us and our 12-year-old).
Whether an extra bed can be added for free for three guests
is something I've currently inquired directly with the hotel about.
When I looked up online reviews,
the information about extra beds varied slightly,
so I really wanted to confirm this point for sure.
For now, I've made a booking with a free cancellation option,
and after receiving the hotel's response, I'll decide whether to finalize this accommodation
based on the extra bed conditions.
Once I hear back, I'll update it here on the blog!
2. Same Dates, Wildly Different Prices? You Bet!
Since it's an international accommodation, I naturally assumed that international booking sites
would offer the cheapest prices.
So, I was only searching for Rydges Darling Square on international third-party sites,
but just in case, I decided to check MyRealTrip too.
I searched for November 1st-5th, 2 adults + 1 child,
and the Superior Queen room, exactly the same conditions...
Huh? Could the difference really be this big?
I thought to myself...
Rydges Darling Square Superior Queen Price Comparison for Same Booking Conditions
Booking Condition | Price Difference
Room Only · Free Cancellation | ~$1,075 | ~$1,034 | ~$41 |
Breakfast Included · Free Cancellation | ~$1,306 | ~$1,137 | ~$169 |
Even just for the room-only option, MyRealTrip was
about ~$41 cheaper for a 4-night stay,
but the price for breakfast included with free cancellation
had a whopping difference of ~$169!
With over ~$169 difference for a 4-night stay,
don't just look at international booking sites just because it's an overseas accommodation.
Make sure to check domestic booking platforms as well, with the exact same dates and conditions!

3. With This Price Difference, We're Booking Breakfast Included!
My husband and I aren't usually big breakfast eaters,
but our son absolutely needs his morning meal.
So, I was initially planning to just get something simple for him
and book the room-only option.
However, MyRealTrip's free cancellation room-only option was ~$1,034,
while breakfast included was ~$1,137.
The total difference for 4 nights was ~$103,
which works out to about ~$26 per day!
On our Australia trip, we'll have
about a week of campervan travel,
meaning quite a few days where we'll have to cook our own meals.
So, for the few days we're staying in Sydney,
we figured we could easily sort out breakfast for a reasonable price,
and decided to book the breakfast-included option!

From what I've seen in reviews, they offer light options like fruit, yogurt,
and pastries, as well as hot dishes like bacon and scrambled eggs.
Since coffee and other beverages are also provided,
even just getting your morning coffee there makes it an amazing value!
It's also a huge plus that you can start your Sydney sightseeing right after breakfast,
without any need to fuss over preparations or tidying up.
If three people, including a child, are staying,
I've already sent an email to inquire whether breakfast is included for all actual reserved guests,
so I'll update this post once I receive a reply!
4. Secure Your Favorite Stay with Free Cancellation First!
As I kept searching for accommodation in Sydney,
I noticed that popular spots get booked up surprisingly fast.

Especially if three people are staying together, the options dwindle compared to standard double rooms,
so I highly recommend checking the free cancellation period and if the terms look good, booking it first.
I'm also planning to explore other accommodation options within the free cancellation period,
based on the Regis Hotel's reply.
Normally, I would have tried to book after perfectly comparing all conditions, but before rooms sell out,
I realized it's actually crucial to secure an available room first.
