Best Places to Visit in Kuala Lumpur
Royal Selangor Pewter Museum

When you're looking for things to do in Kuala Lumpur,
you'll find there are actually so many different places to explore!
Today, I want to share a spot that might not be the most famous "must-see" on everyone's list,
but it's a wonderful, cozy place to spend some time: the Pewter Museum👍
To be honest, I usually prefer solo, independent travel,
so museum tours or factory visits
aren't typically things I go out of my way to find.
But this trip was part of a company-sponsored package tour,
and since this museum was on the itinerary, I ended up visiting!

Honestly, when I first saw the itinerary,
I thought, "A pewter museum? Will that actually be fun?"
But once I got there, listened to our guide's stories,
and saw the beautiful exhibits firsthand,
I realized there was so much to see and it was surprisingly engaging!

You get to hear all about Malaysia's iconic pewter industry.
Truth be told, I don't remember all the details now,
but I definitely remember finding it super interesting and educational at the time...

Plus, there were so many great photo spots,
which was a huge plus for me.
So today, I'm excited to share my review
of the Royal Selangor Pewter Museum—
a fantastic addition to your Kuala Lumpur bucket list! 🌷

Malaysia is world-famous as a major producer of pewter.
Royal Selangor is Malaysia's signature pewter brand,
originally started by Chinese immigrants in the 19th century.
It's known as one of the largest pewter manufacturers in the world,
and the scale of the facility inside is seriously impressive!
I toured the museum with a guide,
and learning all the little details I would have missed on my own
made the experience so much more enjoyable.

And the absolute best photo spot is right here!
A replica of the Petronas Twin Towers made entirely of pewter!
Our guide was sweet enough to take photos of everyone here.
They said it's made from an incredible 7,000 pewter tankards!
Since it's Malaysia's ultimate landmark,
taking a photo here screams, "Hey, look at me, I'm exploring Kuala Lumpur!"
It has that perfect travel vibe.

Beyond just the exhibition halls,
you also get a glimpse into the actual manufacturing process.
Watching them shape the pieces by hand, hammering away,
made seeing the inner workings of the factory feel truly unique and special.

Even though it's not a subject I'm usually super interested in,
seeing it in person was actually so fascinating and fun!

Midway through, they served us a drink in a cup made of pewter.
Getting it served in a real pewter cup made it feel extra special.
They gave us a popular Malaysian drink
called 100PLUS.
At first, I wondered, "Is this like Pocari Sweat?"
but it turned out to taste like Pocari Sweat with a light, refreshing fizz!

Since it's a drink made for hot tropical weather,
it felt incredibly cooling and instantly hydrating.
I loved the 100PLUS so much that I ended up having another one that evening,
and I think I even bought another one the next day too.
It might be a hit-or-miss flavor for some,
but since I already love sports drinks, I thought it was absolutely delicious.

Drinking from a pewter cup and trying a local Malaysian beverage,
it made for such a great stop on our Kuala Lumpur itinerary! 😆

While exploring the exhibits, there was one really interesting part:
a wall dedicated to the handprints of long-serving employees,
left behind as a commemorative display.
When I was younger, I didn’t think much of staying at one company for a long time,
and I never really realized how tough that could be.
But now that I’ve experienced working life myself,
I realize staying at one place for over 10 years is truly an incredible achievement.

Staying at a company for a long time is amazing,
and honestly, making the decision to leave is amazing too...
For those who have dedicated years to this place, it must feel so meaningful
to have their handprints permanently displayed at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre.
It really got me thinking.
Browsing the souvenir shop is super fun too!

Once your tour is finished, you can head over to browse the gift shop.
There was a wide array of products on display,
from pewter cups and plates to beautiful decorative items.

Personally, I thought the dinosaur-shaped pewter ornaments were absolutely adorable.
Since I’m a huge fan of browsing cute merch and lifestyle shops anyway,
exploring the souvenir section at the end was such a fun treat.
Things to Do in Kuala Lumpur
Do I Recommend It?

To be completely honest, if I had planned this as a fully independent solo trip,
I probably wouldn’t have gone out of my way to visit.
However, since it was included in our package tour,
it was actually much more fun and satisfying than I expected!

✔ When the Kuala Lumpur weather gets way too hot
✔ When sudden rain catches you off guard
✔ When looking for a great indoor attraction
✔ If you are traveling with your parents
✔ If you are traveling with kids
If any of these apply to you, it’s definitely worth a visit!
I went in without many expectations,
but I ended up having a blast browsing the impressive collection of work
and exploring the well-stocked gift shop.
