Are you wondering whether to visit Hong Kong's Repulse Bay?
You absolutely must go!
It's a rare find in Hong Kong, offering...
a tranquil atmosphere & romantic seaside

Repulse Bay, one of Hong Kong's most beautiful beaches,
Let me show you around in the following order!

Hong Kong Repulse Bay Table of Contents :: 1. Introduction to Hong Kong Repulse Bay 2. How to Get to Repulse Bay 3. What to See at Repulse Bay 4. Recommended Nearby Destinations 5. Repulse Bay Travel Tips |
1. Introduction to Hong Kong Repulse Bay

It's located on the south side of Hong Kong Island, a bit of a distance from the city center, but
it boasts an affluent vibe & European charm,
so I highly recommend a visit!

It's a trendy travel spot often sought out by Hong Kong influencers.
Especially since it's close to popular Hong Kong attractions like Stanley and Ocean Park,
it's perfect for planning a day trip.
2. How to Get to Repulse Bay
📍 Repulse Bay
Repulse Bay, Hong Kong
Using MTR & Bus

Travel to MTR Central Station or Admiralty Station
From the bus stop near Central Ferry Terminal, take bus routes 6, 6X, or 260.

Since the buses also pass through the Wan Chai area,
check for a bus stop close to your accommodation.
I personally took the Route 260 bus from the Wan Chai area.
Depending on your starting point, it takes approximately 30-40 minutes.

You can alight at the Repulse Bay Beach stop.
Prepare your Hong Kong transit card in advance!
All public transportation in Hong Kong can be used with an Octopus Card! It's super convenient to buy one in advance 🩷

Using a Taxi
Takes approximately 20-25 minutes from Central.
It's convenient but the fare is pricey.
Also, be aware that Hong Kong taxis only accept cash.

If you're debating between the bus and a taxi,
I personally recommend taking a double-decker bus to enjoy the scenic route.

After alighting at the bus stop,
go down the stairs directly opposite, and you'll see
a small park.

Walk past this area and go down a little further,
and you'll discover the beautiful Repulse Bay!

3. What to See at Repulse Bay
Relax & Stroll on the Beach
Repulse Bay is characterized by its wide and pristine white sand beach!
If you're not a fan of sand getting into your shoes,
I highly recommend wearing sneakers!

Because the sand isn't super fine,
it doesn't really get into your sneakers!
I wore sneakers, and my husband wore flip-flops,
and I was definitely the winner!

If you don't fancy washing your feet again, sneakers are the way to go!
It's a wonderful beach for a leisurely stroll, even if you don't necessarily go into the water.
The beach itself is a fantastic Hong Kong photo spot, so snap away!
Checking Out Repulse Bay Mansion

It's Repulse Bay's landmark, famous for the hole right through its middle!
That window-like opening,
legend has it, was made for dragons to fly through!
It's a style of apartment building you often see in Hong Kong,

Behind Repulse Bay Mansion, there's a mountain,
and in front, the sea.
This means it's considered an excellent location according to Feng Shui principles.
For the energy (qi) of the dragon that travels between the mountains and the sea
to flow smoothly,
they carved out a path for it!
Isn't that such an interesting story?
Highly recommended as a Hong Kong photo spot!
It's a design you won't typically see in apartment buildings back home (Korea),
making it a unique backdrop for photos.
Where to Capture Both the Beach and the Mansion?
With your back to the bus stop,
and Repulse Bay directly in front of you,
head to the right!

You'll discover this incredible Hong Kong photo spot there!
Just keep in mind that the facilities for washing your feet are on the opposite side.
The restrooms on the way back up to the bus stop are actually closer and a good option.

4. Recommended Places to Explore Near Repulse Bay
Stanley
Stanley is a charming neighborhood often favored by expats.

You'll find Stanley Market, brimming with adorable souvenirs,
and Back Beach, offering unique emerald-green waters.
I absolutely fell in love with this area, so I'll be dedicating a separate post to it soon!
Ocean Park

Ocean Park brings together an amusement park, an aquarium, and a zoo all in one fantastic location.
I had such a blast there,
I actually recommend it even more than Disneyland!
It's a great idea to spend a night in Southern Hong Kong Island and dedicate one day to Stanley & Repulse Bay, and another to Ocean Park!

5. Repulse Bay Travel Hacks
Visit on Weekdays Rather Than Weekends

On weekends, many locals also flock here,
and you'll often see them filming TikTok videos.
Especially in the evening, the bus stops get incredibly crowded!
Be mindful of bus schedules!

I recommend traveling this route: Repulse Bay → Stanley → City Center.
Buses going from Stanley to the city center make a stop at Repulse Bay along the way,
but often, the buses are already packed by then,
meaning you might not be able to get on!
So, if you're planning to head straight back to the city from Stanley, make sure to avoid peak hours!
Limited Shower Facilities!
Think Twice About Swimming!

While swimming is allowed, I don't really recommend it.
That's because there are hardly any shower facilities on the beach.
Especially, as I mentioned before,
there are absolutely none near the photo spot on the right side.
You'll have to walk quite a way to the left to find any.

Instead of swimming, I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll!
For your information, there are restrooms inside The Pulse shopping mall, right in front of the beach,
and also on the path leading up to the bus stop.
What to Pack for Repulse Bay
Just 2 Essentials!
While Repulse Bay does have some restaurants and cafes,
there aren't too many, surprisingly.
I guess that's because it's a beach right in front of a residential area.
Also, instead of heading into a Repulse Bay eatery,
it's wonderful to just sit near the beach and soak in the relaxing vibes.
So, be sure to bring some simple snacks and water!

Furthermore, not only when you're heading to Repulse Bay,
but also when you're traveling to your next destination,
you'll likely be taking the bus.
So, definitely get your Hong Kong Octopus Card ready in advance!
I recommend booking it at a discounted rate online and picking it up at the airport.

The Beautiful Repulse Bay!

I've visited Hong Kong many times, but this was actually my first trip to Repulse Bay!
And I truly wish I had come sooner!
The atmosphere was so beautiful and incredibly healing.
If you're looking for a unique Hong Kong photo spot like I was, you absolutely MUST go!
Some might compare it to Busan's Haeundae Beach,
but I honestly didn't get that vibe at all.
It felt much cleaner and more uniquely exotic!
If you have the time, make sure to pay it a visit!
