When you're exploring the vibrant streets of Taipei, sometimes you just need a chill spot to unwind before heading back to your hotel. While I used to stick mostly to pubs, I've found that bars often offer a more consistent and enjoyable experience when traveling internationally. This particular gem, Relax Taipei, was conveniently located near my hotel, tucked away in a quieter part of the city, which made it all the more appealing.
One thing I've noticed about bars in Taiwan, compared to other Southeast Asian destinations like Vietnam, is that they tend to be quite brightly lit. Some even feel completely illuminated! It's a subtle cultural difference, but it contributes to the relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. Most bars here also have a minimum spend, but it's usually easy to meet by ordering a couple of drinks. Many also have a time limit, but unless you're planning an extended stay, it's rarely an issue.
Relax Taipei offers a cozy, intimate vibe. There were a couple of tables near the entrance, a central bar area, and about three more tables tucked away further inside. While the inner tables seemed less occupied, they'd be perfect if you're a duo looking for a more private setting. The entrance tables are better suited for groups of three or four. Most couples, though, naturally gravitate towards the bar.
When we visited around 11:30 PM, it wasn't overly crowded, offering a peaceful retreat.
Like many bars in Taipei, Relax Taipei has a minimum spend requirement of ~$16. This is easily met with one cocktail and a snack, or two cocktails. There's also a 10% service charge and a time limit of 2.5 hours, which is plenty of time to enjoy your drinks without feeling rushed.

It's a perfectly crafted ice sphere, designed to slowly chill your drink without over-diluting it. My drink was fantastic, and having fries available was a huge plus. Some bars only serve drinks, which can feel a bit sparse if you're looking for something to nibble on.
It's always nice to have a little something to pair with your cocktail. This is definitely a spot worth checking out in Taipei.
My friend ordered something different; I can't quite recall what it was, but it looked just as intriguing!
Around midnight, one of the staff members clocked out. My friend and I had a fun little debate: was it the owner leaving early, or just a part-timer whose shift ended? We never asked, but it sparked a funny conversation. Thinking about it now, I'm curious again! Based on their demeanor, I'd say the one who left seemed like the owner.
For my second drink, I decided to be a bit more adventurous. While my first signature cocktail was definitely my favorite, it's always fun to try something new!
Overall, the music wasn't too loud, and conversations flowed easily, making for a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere.
