Ramuchii Nagoya Review: Best Miso Katsu in Sakae
Discover Ramuchii in Sakae, Nagoya, famous for its green-onion-loaded miso katsu and giant fried shrimp. Here is our honest review of this hidden gem!
If you are looking for the ultimate miso katsu experience near Sakae Station, you have to visit Ramuchii!
This local gem is famous on YouTube and social media for putting a modern, delicious twist on one of Nagoya's most iconic regional specialties. While traditional miso katsu is great, Ramuchii takes it to the next level by smothering their crispy pork cutlets in a rich miso sauce and piling on a massive mountain of fresh, finely shredded green onions.
Opening Hours
Lunch: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Dinner: 5:30 PM - 10:00 PM

The menu is clearly displayed at the entrance. Their highly sought-after Kagoshima Kurobuta (premium black pork) set sells out incredibly fast! According to the menu, this premium set comes complete with rice and soup for 3,180 JPY (~$21).
The restaurant is tucked away in the B1F basement level of the building. While it's known for having long wait times, we managed to walk right in without waiting by arriving exactly at 5:30 PM just as the dinner service started.

Crucial travel tip: They are strictly cash-only! Make sure you carry enough Japanese Yen before heading down.
Walking down the stairs, you will find a cozy, traditional basement layout with tables for groups of two and four. It’s not a massive space, but it has a wonderful, intimate neighborhood vibe that makes for a very comfortable meal.
The Interior & Vibe

The walls are absolutely covered with celebrity autographs!

It really shows how legendary this spot is among locals and domestic travelers alike.

Each table is stocked with various condiments, including savory cabbage dressings and shichimi (seven-spice blend) to customize your meal.

Here is how the basic table setting looks.

The restaurant quickly filled up to capacity, but thanks to their efficient and friendly staff, our food arrived surprisingly fast!
The Menu
We ordered the Big-Size Miso Katsu (1,880 JPY / ~$12) and the Fried Shrimp Set (2,580 JPY / ~$17). They also have an English/Korean menu available, which made ordering a breeze, and we grabbed a Coke (400 JPY / ~$3) to wash it down. If you're looking for an alcoholic beverage, they serve highballs, draft beer, and bottled Asahi too.
Both the small and large miso katsu sets come served with unlimited rice and a rich, traditional red miso soup (aka dashi).

The fried shrimp (Ebi Fry) was absolutely massive! It's completely different from the standard fried shrimp you get elsewhere—unbelievably crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy on the inside. It was so delicious that I’m already craving it again!

The miso katsu sauce has a deeply savory, slightly sweet flavor profile, reminiscent of a rich black bean sauce. For me, eating it with the mountain of fresh green onions was a game-changer—it cut through the richness beautifully and made every bite delicious. However, my husband found the flavor profile a bit too unique for his personal taste, so it definitely depends on your palate!

While the prices are slightly premium, the value is fantastic because you get free, unlimited refills on rice, miso soup, and shredded cabbage salad!
If you are looking for an authentic culinary experience that you can only find in Nagoya rather than just another ordinary meal, Ramuchii is the perfect choice.
